Routinely? That sort of age wasn't even routine in the hypothetical planet described in the bible. If you believe that the universe has always been running under the same set of laws, I challenge you to describe to me a hypothetical planet in existence today where people routinely live to be 600-900 years old, and tell me how they live that long under current conditions.
Oh that's easy, he had a self-portrait that he kept in the loft, and never looked at.Smeagal lived for hundreds of years thanks to his magic ring. On a hypothetical planet where there are no magic rings how could Smeagal have lived for so long?
If you really do take this position then you would not believe people lived many centuries a few thousand years ago.If you want, I'll even play the part of an atheist in this thread and assume no miracles, no divine intervention ... no nothing.
Oh that's easy, he had a self-portrait that he kept in the loft, and never looked at.
In the case of Adam and Eve they had duel circulatory systems which allowed them to partake of the energies of "the tree of life". After the fall they lost the use of the tree, but even still their superior genetics allowed them to live much longer than average. Their offspring lived longer as well, there are Sumerian kings lists that have people that lived to be very old.If you believe that the universe has always been running under the same set of laws, I challenge you to describe to me a hypothetical planet in existence today where people routinely live to be 600-900 years old, and tell me how they live that long under current conditions.
Either that, or the challenge would apply to me as well.If you really do take this position then you would not believe people lived many centuries a few thousand years ago.
Rendering the challenge moot.
Man, I can't get you guys off this earth, can I?In the case of Adam and Eve they had duel circulatory systems which allowed them to partake of the energies of "the tree of life".
Genesis is a mixture of truth, exaggeration, speculation and ignorance. It was rewritten when the Israelites nationalist pride was crushed and they found themselves in captivity once again. If I could add another thought from another viewpoint: If I was writing Genesis, with the intention of putting the whole story over on you, why would I arbitrarily pick ages that long knowing it would just be one more thing questioned. That wouldn’t make sense… the only thing that makes sense is that it is true.
Either that, or the challenge would apply to me as well.
And I would be honest enough to admit that, since I find it impossible that such a planet could exist, then the Bible must be speaking of a different set of conditions that we are ... so far ... unfamiliar with and defies testing.
Or people did not live multi century lives.Either that, or the challenge would apply to me as well.
And I would be honest enough to admit that, since I find it impossible that such a planet could exist, then the Bible must be speaking of a different set of conditions that we are ... so far ... unfamiliar with and defies testing.
... not the subject of this thread.Genesis is ...
Well, here's one I started that I'd like to be science-only
Why would I do that? other than to spark the ire of those who believe otherwise? If you really were being honest it would be more sensible to conclude that the stories in Genesis aren't true,
That's ... why ... I'm ... call ... ling ... it ... a ... high ... poe ... thet ... tee ... call.Or people did not live multi century lives.
If one does not believe that point then there is no reason to suspect the nature of reality was different a few thousand years ago.
Why would I do that? other than to spark the ire of those who believe otherwise?
I specifically said: "The Bible must be speaking of ..."
Thus showing respect to Bible-believers.
Now ... could we leave the Bible out of this thread please?
Affirmative ... and two posters made me feel better about changing my mind.Didn't you say you were done with challenge threads?
Then give me a sci-fi answer. Its impossible to live for a few hundred years according to science,.....what you're talking about is sci-fi
