India is not moving relative to an ocean, it is moving relative to the Indo-Australian plate.

Around 250 million years ago India did not exist as a separate entity. It was a part of the super continent we now call Pangea. As Pangea broke up due to movement of the underlying tectonic plates it started to form the land masses we are familiar with including India.

India continues to move north.

It was a long process over time and movement. We see a similar process happening today with the East African Rift. Can we point to the newly created land mass with the split of Africa's starting point as where it's at now? Not yet. It's a slowly changing process that takes millions of years.
