  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Star Trek.

It's the only one which portrays a positive future for Humanity.

In the others, mankind either strips the planet bare, mankind is overthrown by apes or insects, or nuked by God.

Star Trek shows that humans can overcome our differences, get rid of poverty crime and work together to make the world better.

Star Trek begins with mission logs, meaning we are fed a narrative from the Federation's viewpoint.

What we do know is that the Federation is largely run by a Militaristic Star Fleet which seems to control colonies, transport and engages in mining and Real Politik with surrounding empires.
Thus Star Trek is at best the story of Imperialism and at worst Fascism, although in its idealised forms.

Star Trek "reality" did not come at a free cost.

In the film "Star Trek First Contact", change only came after a catastrophic nuclear global war that reduced human population to a very small population and wiped out all of our infrastructure.

It costed billions of lives, thousands of square miles of irradiated land, and our pride to finally realize, we can live in a system that gives instead of take.

Member planets have agreed to work together, but they are not taken over. Vulcan, for example, still has a Vulcan government.

BTW, thank you for getting that song stuck in my head. And the lyrics to "Monster Mash" fit it perfectly. My head is filled with a disturbing mix of two songs.

Just like Slovakia and Croatia had their own governments or Finland under the Nazis.
Remember we are shown Starfleet logs as each episode reminds us. Obviously a Fascist group would present harmonious cooperation.

Show me Romulan or Klingon records of Federation activities...

I'll go with #5 in that it's the one that AV believes in.
