Hmm... so atheists understand everything then? I think not.
Of course not. But we have the courage to admit we don’t know everything, instead of making things up.

It takes real courage to accept reality as we find it.

The Big Bang and evolution or scientific theories, I’m certain you really understand the difference between scientific analysis and blind faith.

Academics see the world around them as it is, they see evidence of how it was in the past, they formulate a theory of how changes happened and that is tested and refined by other academics till it either is sufficiently proven or amended until the academic world is satisfied.

Religious belief is entirely different. For devout Christians there is nothing more needed than belief, “the bible says it” is enough. They will not answer simple questions with any clarity but they don’t have to, they just “believe”.

To say creation “creation makes logical sense” is ridiculous. Who made the “creator”? Where did the creator come from? How can a mythical being who is neither seen nor heard or physically felt just “think” things like the universe into existence. Why, even if this mythical creator did somehow think the universe into existence, in all its unimaginable vastness, would he care on jot about a few punt humans on a fit of a rock in some obscure corner of the universe?

Then we have a “soul” that somehow survives us, and we all go to one of two places no one has ever seen, which exist nowhere apparently, heaven or hell, and this mythical god will send everyone to one or the other fir eternity just because you either worshipped him in the correct manner or didn’t.

Then we have the bible, the most flawed book you can come across, filled with ludicrous stories many of which make no sense. The book was written by men, yet believers blindly follow it as “gods word”. The creation myth, the flood, the torture of Job, Jonah and the fish, Lot and his sexual antics with his daughters, there are just so many examples of ridiculous stories in the bible but devout Christians “believe” in its veracity without question.

Therein lies the difference, academics will ALWAYS question a theory, over and over again, question and test, modify and hone it until it describes what we see happening. Devout believers in any of the numerous religious texts just read them and believe unquestioning because that’s what faith is. To compare the scientific method with blind faith and adherence to an old book written by normal men is just plain ridiculous. By all means believe, that’s fair enough but do not disparage science, they are polar opposites.

PS “poof” is UK slang for homosexual!

...it would be so nice if someday both atheists and Christians could stop stereotyping one another. Wouldn't you agree, Dave RP?

I wonder how Philip K. Dick handles Matthew 24:35? ^_^
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

How is that a challenge to Dick's notion?

Maybe you need to change your Avatar Blurb to "Science Can Take a Hint." It wouldn't cost you any more blurb space than does what you have at the present moment, and you'd do two things: 1) You'd still be taking a 'jab' at secular scientists, and 2) you'd appear more gracious and conciliatory. What 'ya think about that, AV?

You thinking of the right author?
You're right; wrong author. I get Douglas Adams and Philip K. Dick confused sometimes. It's been a while since I've read anything about either one of these guys, and in light of the following article, I remember why:

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - The Greatest Literature of All Time

Quote: "...Much of Adams already seems to me like Dick-lite (as in Philip K. Dick), but this is the story that most approximates Dick's entanglement of intellect and emotion, complete with shifting focus and unresolved issues."

Thanks for the reminder ...

The comment really doesn't need any help but go ahead and use the uk term instead, and see how much more nonsensical "poof, and here we are" sounds. ;)

The non believers forgot to use a logical start, had they done so, the world/scientists wouldn't be confused into thinking there was a mystery that needed figuring out to begin with, making their job so much easier, or not at all necessary.

Though a huge mistake many choose to make in order to make their own side "seem" more sensible, It's not all about blind religious faith, as you would try to make it appear, it's using the tiniest bit of common sense to know right off, from the very start, something doesn't POOF! just happen, then letting that lead us to the word as a very logical follow up to knowing there is a God....

Even using science we have to start somewhere and move on, and all I can tell you is...bad start people. They need to go back to square one, try again, and stop embarrassing themselves.
