Way to miss the point - which is that the bible stories provide encouragement & support for anyone that believes God is telling them to kill large numbers of people;
Well maybe It does you or Asahara, but not Christians.

I can use the Bible to "justify" putting a knife to my throat ...

Proverbs 23:2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

Or plucking out my eye ...

Matthew 18:9a And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out,

It doesn't mean I'm doing the right thing.

It doesn't to me because I don't believe in any kind of god, and I have my own moral compass.

It doesn't mean I'm doing the right thing.
Of course not, but that's the danger of losing your autonomous moral compass through misplaced belief in divine command theory.

With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.” ― Steven Weinberg

How do you know it's not right if the bible supports doing it?

Nice try / won't work:
  1. Tokyo is not the Promised Land.
  2. Shoko Asahara was not "God's people".
  3. Those 5000+ victims were not the Jew's enemy; nor squatters on their land.
Remember the story of Jonah and the whale?

Jonah 4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
1 How do you know?
2 How do you know?
3 Why are you bringing jews into it?

How is it that the common people knew the universe had a beginning long before "modern" scientists came along and discovered the universe had a beginning?

By the same token, how is it that the common people knew the universe was expanding long before "modern" scientists came along and discovered the universe is expanding?

Did "modern" scientists really discover it? or are they just confirming something that was already written in a [book] they don't want taught in school?

Without that [book], they can claim they discovered it; rather than [embarrassingly] have to claim they are only really confirming it.

Ancient peoples believed it; modern scientists confirmed it. Who's embarrassed?

A. Genesis 1:1a In the beginning ...

B. I am using "discovered" from their point of view. It irks me they claim it as a "discovery," and not a "confirmation."

C. Yes ... science confirms the Bible.

A. No, the earth and the universe are not only 6000 years old. They are as old as God created them. It's called "embedded age." And yes ... the Big Bang never happened. In fact, Peter mentions a "great noise" at the end of the universe; not the beginning.

B. If the Bible says otherwise, then yes, scientists are wrong about it.
How could there have been a great noise when there was no medium to carry it?

The common people believed it -- the question is, did they know they were right?

Anyone can make a guess; the discovery is why that guess was correct.

How did God hear the sighing of the Israelites in Egypt through the fabric of space?

And how would God answer that question?

You can ask Him yourself when you see Him.

And why is that "guess" correct?

Because it corresponds to reality as we current understand it.

It could be we're wrong, in which case, they were wrong too... but as of right now, it looks like they were right..

good guess, eh?

Did scientists [discover] anything new?

Indeed -- they discovered (to the best of their abilities) when and how that beginning happened... which is something that the ancient civilizations (all of them) got wrong.

Of course, that, too, might change... we'll let you know if it does.

Selection effect - enough different guesses were made that it would be surprising if none of them was approximately in the right ballpark.

If that was the case ... which it isn't though ... but if that was the case, how coincidental that the right one was written into Scripture, eh?

How did they manage to get it right the first time?

Ham signals traveled 46 billion light years in an instant, did they?

Are you suggesting that God's receiver is limited by human physics?

Are you suggesting Post 107 can be taken with a grain of salt?

Not at all. Post 107 brings up the fact that (lacking a miracle) sound waves cannot travel through the vacuum of space. I'm merely pointing out that radio waves can.

Are you denying God's power? That's so unlike you, AV.

Seems like much has changed since last I frequented C/E... I would have expected you to say that God would gave heard them if they used two Dixie cups and a piece of string...
