"Might be wrong"?

While I'm [somewhat] impressed at you guys' preference for being wrong to save face, I'm not impressed at your [plural] preference for avoiding the OP.
To say I would believe you, that would be the lie to save face in the way you have set this challenge up.

In this hypothetical situation, a person who I think is slightly nuts, comes up to me claiming to have magicked an apple into existence.

I have no way of knowing if this person did or did not poof this apple into existence.

All that I can judge this surreal scene on is my previous experiences with apples (that they do not poof into existence) and my experience with this person (which has lead me to think of him as a little off even before his apple story), how can you expect me not to doubt this persons story?

Would you believe your local towns crazy person if they said they poofed an apple into existence?

Sorry the question's too hard for you, Lewis. When you decide to come down off your high-horse and be honest, feel free to answer it anytime. :)

Ultimately it doesn't matter if you created the apple "in reality" or not. To the person who has to decide if you did or did not create it, whatever they feel they believe is their choice and their Reality. They don't know different from what they believe, so no matter what their belief about the apple is, that is the truth for them.

Lewis gave you an extremely honest answer. In fact, I agree with it. Of course, since it is not the one you wanted to hear, you are blowing it off. Maybe you should get off your "KJV 1611" High-Horse.

Yes, it does. In this hypothetical, I created it ex nihilo. And I made it clear that I did so. So what say we pay a little respect to the OP as it was written?

To the person who has to decide if you did or did not create it, whatever they feel they believe is their choice and their Reality.

No one "has to decide." In fact, I'm perplexed at the number of people who are just saying everything but an answer. If you don't have anything to say - don't say anything. All it does is unnecessarily lengthen the thread with off-topic remarks and ad hominems.

They don't know different from what they believe, so no matter what their belief about the apple is, that is the truth for them.

Fine --- convey that "truth" as you see it.

And I present to you, gold coins that were given to me by leprechauns.

You first.

Bear, believe it or not, someone started another thread somewhere about caterpillars morphing into butterflies; and I answered with a children's song saying, in so many words, "God did it" (pertaining to that very topic) --- and I got reported for spamming.

I promise you --- I won't stoop to that level here.

Truth as i see it is that it's ultimately impossible to know whether you really did or didn't. Anyone can *say* they created something ex nihilo. If you can't prove you did (ie, create the apple again right infront of me) there is no reason for me to believe that you did.

How can you refuse to accept that --- without being wrong?

Easy --- I would know better --- you wouldn't.

Although I'm not sure what you would be looking for while you were examining it - examining it, then refusing to accept it would, in very fact, be a mistake on your part.

IOW, you refuse to see the parallel of my question. Either that, or you already see it, but just can't bring yourself to admit it.

I'm just keeping my promise of exposing you every time you show deceit and evasion.

I could create a whole bushel of apples ex nihilo in front of you, and it wouldn't prove that the one I handed you was created in that fashion.

I could create a whole bushel of apples ex nihilo in front of you, and it wouldn't prove that the one I handed you was created in that fashion.

But it would certainly lend credence to the idea that apples can be created ex nihilo, which is the exact reason most people would not accept your apple.

Do you write for politicians, perchance? Becuase, I gotta say, that was some excellent spin and dodge.
