I take your apple, and assuming it's a Granny Smith (the only good type of apple) I eat it and while doing so ask you why you think it's been created ex nihilo.

I then take the core and jam it so hard into your computer keyboard (focusing on the "A", "C" and "M" keys) that you are rendered unable to generate more apple challenges.

;)

So I have two choices, I can choose to make a reasonable conclusion and be wrong or make a ridicules conclusion and be right.

I think I would take the former even if I ended up being wrong, better to be a reasonable person who is wrong once in a while due to their judgment then a unreasonable person who is right once in a while due to chance.

I present to you an apple that was created ex nihilo.

How can you refuse to accept that --- without being wrong?

I hand you a book with "100%" of all its many prophecies irrefutably fulfilled, but which still has many errors in.

How can you refuse to accept that --- without being wrong?

In light of the fact that nothing else we can identify is created in such a manner... how can anyone accept it in the first place on nothing more than your word? Especially in light of your being wrong about so many other things... I'd have to think twice about accepting directions from you much less your word that an apple was created ex nihilo.

If the apple flat-out WAS created ex nihilo, you would be wrong to reject it.

If you did, it would be out of lack of trust in / being unconvinced by the person who apparently created it.

I have one small question for you AVET...

SO WHAT??

This thread and all the other "Apple Challenge" threads are both pointless and useless for the discussion at hand.

Are you like really bored? Is that why you post these threads??

Sorry Av, I would love to accept your apple - but I fear that such a creation (ex nihlo or otherwise) would need to be registered with the FSA or USDA in order to rule out genetic manipulation before I could decide whether it was safe to eat.

Better safe than sorry....

AV, I'll play your game, but I ask one question first....

How do I know that the apple was created ex nihilo?

I see a man holding an apple, and he claims it was created ex nihilo. From my point of view, there are two possibilities: he is correct, or he is wrong. Thus, I must make a probability assessment to see which of the two options is more likely.

Now, in all my years, I have never seen an apple pop into existance (neither apparently nor actually). I know of no mechanism by which an apple can spontaneously form (realistically speaking, anyway).

To cut a long story short (and to let me go to bed), the "apple created ex nihilo" scenario is far less likely than the "apple grown from apple seed". Thus, from my scepticle point of view, I would call you a loon or a liar, and go about my business.

Of course, we know the apple really was created ex nihilo. So my conclusion would be false.
But can you blame the logic?

then biased only on your word, I must reject your claim.

While I'm waiting for Tiberius to "play my game," do you have an answer to the OP?

I would...well...just refuse to accept it. There is an extremely high possibility of my being correct. And until further evidence supports you creating an apple from nothing, I'll stick to my answer, like any logical and intelligent person that is familiar with research would do.

How about:

I present to you a bunch of flowers that I pulled from my coat sleeve ex nihilo.

How can you refuse to accept that --- without being wrong?

Point Of Suggestion. Convince someone enough, without providing relative data, and anything is possible.

Given what I know about this person and his actions, and my opinion that this person is off his rocker, I would have to error on the side of the apple not being just magicked in to existence.

I might be wrong, but, knowing what I know, I could not honestly come to any other conclusion.

"Might be wrong"?

While I'm [somewhat] impressed at you guys' preference for being wrong to save face, I'm not impressed at your [plural] preference for avoiding the OP.

Fair enough --- would you be willing to admit that in doing this, you made the wrong choice?

No. I made the right choice, but I had the wrong conclusion (though the wrong conclusion is certainly justifiable). Else I would believe anything any old codger on the street told me.
