How many books did you go through to justify your belief that the Jews didn't drink alcoholic wine at weddings?
None.

A few years ago, my pastor gave me a book that explained some 18 different uses of the Greek and Hebrew words for "wine," but it was too complicated, and I didn't read it.

And for the record, I believe Jews drank alcoholic beverages at weddings.

Why did you read more than one science book about a subject? So if your definitions are in one book, you would never resort to that book to define what the words mean? Just let people insert whatever interpretation they so desire?

That's what got us in the mess we are in right now, people want to say words meant whatever suits their fancy at the time.

Just as had you pointed people to a reference about root beer and beer, their would not have been 20 million interpretations of what you meant. Only less information is bad.

So you go to a source that takes a word out of the Bible, supposedly gives the Hebrew and Greek* word for it, then gives about four different definitions/uses for that word in English -- and some call that "clarification"?

* In the Greek language, one needs to differentiate between Koine Greek and Classical Greek.

Koine Greek was the language of the common people.

Strong's Concordance is a little lax in letting us know if the Greek it's using is Koine or Classical.

Not that I really care, though.

Who owned the earth when Paul wrote?

In this dispensation, Satan owns the earth by right of possession.

After all, it was given to him by trickery.

God, who owns the earth by right of creation, will reclaim it.

Who owns the USS Pueblo? Korea or the United States?

So you made it up, then.

A few years ago, my pastor gave me a book that explained some 18 different uses of the Greek and Hebrew words for "wine," but it was too complicated, and I didn't read it.

Too many big words?

And for the record, I believe Jews drank alcoholic beverages at weddings.

Do you believe that if they were drinking alcoholic beverages at a wedding, and someone suddenly cut them off, they'd be upset?

Not if they were cut off with something better tasting.

John 2:9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
John 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

Why would anyone call grape juice "good wine"

There's only one reason I can think of.

The default position for "wine" back then was unfermented.

After all, they either had to drink it as soon as it was made from the grapes, or else they would have to use elaborate methods of preservation.

Not necessarily. But young minds being young, we have to draw the line somewhere.

Do you draw it at "fun to drink" or "good for you"?

And why wouldn't you draw it at "moderation"?

IOW, under 21 should call for more moderation, etc.

Just what it says.

When Thalidomide first came out, had the whole world followed the law as laid down by Frances Kelsey,* there may not have been a generation of Thalidomites.

* Keep testing.

How offensive and tasteless.
