  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yep. It's called chewing the cud.

Not really. Since the methodology is quite different a new term should have been invented. It is indicative that the writers of the verse did not know how and why rabbits ate their own feces.

But then there are many many errors in the Bible that were caused by the ignorance of the writers. And please don't conflate ignorance with stupidity. Pointing out that someone is ignorant of a fact is not calling that person ignorant.

Ignorance can be fixed, until the moment of death. It is too late for the writers of the Bible. They will always be viewed as ignorant. It is not too late for anyone alive today.

Camels don't have split hooves. In fact they have split toes and no hoofs at all. Did you really look at a camels feet?

I know this isn't the ethics and morality sub-forum, but one still has to question the morality of discussing camel's toes with a young lady. Especially when she doesn't even yet know the facts about it.

Umm...rabbits do eat their droppings for more nutrients. I believe they have two stomachs as well. So technically they do chew their cud.

Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon

Hebrew Lexicon :: H1581 (KJV)
Strong's Number H1581 matches the Hebrew גָּמָל (gamal ),
which occurs 54 times in 51 verses in the Hebrew concordance of the KJV
1581 gamal gaw-mawl' apparently from 1580 (in the sense of labor or burden-bearing); a camel:--camel.
1580 gamal gaw-mal' a primitive root; to treat a person (well or ill), i.e. benefit or requite; by implication (of toil), to ripen, i.e. (specifically) to wean

Greek Lexicon :: G2574 (KJV)
Strong's Number G2574 matches the Greek κάμηλος (kamēlos),
which occurs 6 times in 6 verses in the Greek concordance of the KJV
2574. kamelos kam'-ay-los of Hebrew origin (1581); a "camel":--camel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel

The term "camel" is derived via Latin and Greek (camelus and kamēlos respectively) from Hebrew or Phoenician gāmāl.[4][5]
The Hebrew meaning of the word gāmāl is derived from the verb root g.m.l, meaning (1) stopping, weaning, going without;[citation needed] or (2) repaying in kind.
This refers to its ability to go without food or water, as well as the increased ability of service the animal provides when being properly cared for.[citation needed]

"Camel" is also used more broadly to describe any of the six camel-like mammals in the family Camelidae: the two true camels: the dromedary and bactrian, and the four South American camelids: the llama and alpaca are called "New World camels", while the guanaco and vicuña are called "South American camels".

A camel's thick coat is one of its many adaptations that aid it in desert-like conditions.

Actually, camels do have hooves, they are just very short and reduced, more like nails. Although to be fair when I look up whether or not they have hooves I get mixed answers.

I would like to taste camel meat.

Ask Ali: Eating camel meat and where to try some | The National

Ali Al Saloom is a cultural adviser and public speaker from the UAE.

Dear Ali: Do people eat camel meat in the UAE? And if so, why? And where can I taste it?
CQ, Dubai

Yes, we do eat camel meat. It might sound odd but it is like coming across crocodile meat at a hotel in Dubai. I was really shocked and thought: wow, I didn't know you can eat it. But it was no surprise to my Ozzie friends.

See, camel meat is one of our national specialities and is regarded as a "comfort food" that is usually served when someone passes away or a child is born and, of course, at weddings. In the Bastakiya heritage village area of Dubai, there is a restaurant called Local House that serves camel burgers as an alternative to beef or chicken burgers. Switch restaurant in The Dubai Mall too, serves it. However, camel meat is not available in every store or restaurant..........................

Ironic that Muslims won't eat pork, but they eat camel?

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100214110143AAzDvoJ

Muslims always bash Christians for eating pork and other unclean foods from the Old Testament. Camel was forbidden in the old testament. So was rabbit. Yet they say it's halal.

Why Christians do eat pork despite its forbidden in the bible?!!

Pork prohibited in the Bible

The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".

"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."[Leviticus 11:7-8]

The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. In America, most people consume pork.
Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives; i.e. many say "you sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife."
If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs.

Peace.

Right. As in, not hooves. and therefore they don't have split hooves, they have ... toenails. Hooves are a more extreme extension than what we see camels having.

They walk on the pads of their feet, Sarah. Not the "hooves".

And to the writers of the bible, rabbits do eat their cud. To me, rabbits eat their cud. It's partially digested plant material in either case.

According to this US camel eater, it tastes like a blend of 3 different meats, pork, beek and mutton. Perhaps it depends on the type of camel?

Enjoying a nice, juicy camel steak at my home in North Minneapolis

I was in Sun Foods in St. Paul, and somewhere in the vast and impressive Global Meats Section (that's my name for it, not theirs) I noticed camel for sale.

Besides camel steaks, they had camel kidneys, camel liver, camel ribs (I think) and lots of other fine cuts of camel. I decided to stick with the steak because it was easiest to prepare.
By the way, the camel sold in St. Paul doesn't come from the Middle East but rather Australia.
These are "feral" camels which are overrunning the outback.
Well, I say, eat a camel, save the outback.

So what does camel meat taste like?

My roommate did a little research on the internet and somewhere (I don't know what link he was citing) he found somebody saying it tastes like a blend of pork, beef and mutton.

I don't know who said that, but they're 100% right.
Camel tastes like three different meats at once, but perfectly blended. I guess if you ate camel all the time, you'd say camel meat tastes like camel meat. I would have to say it is DELICIOUS and if it's a blend of different meat flavors, it's a perfect and balanced blend.

The stuff is a little pricey...about twice as much per pound as a good cut of beef...but if you're chasing exotic cuisine experiences, it's well worth the cost.
Camel...it's what's for dinner.

Don't be a dolt, ok? The physical action is similar enough that its written that way. Any differences more subtle than that are moot. Its also a really good reason to declare a food unclean.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-k5J4RxQdE

Sorry, the cud chewing is not the reason given for making rabbits unclean. Instead, its the lack of a cloven hoof. If only rabbits had a cloven hoof, they could have been eaten!

^_^ I'll get right on that. The language supports a local flood, and so does the physical evidence. See how that works?

The book is vague enough to support just about anything, if you dig and twist deep enough.

Many Christians think it was a global flood and scripture supports them and others that are likely cognizant of lack of evidence, have found ways to try and support a local flood and they also claim scripture supports them.

How waters that covered the highest mountains could not be global though, is quite a trick.

What else is new?
