Izzy knew this was going to be coming. She would be asked to demonstrate her powers sooner or later. And personally, she was glad they were going to do it in small groups instead of one at a time in front of the whole class. That would be much more nerve-wracking.

Izzy stood up with the rest of the class and looked around for some people she knew who weren't already in a group. She saw Caitlyn wandering around looking almost as lost as Izzy felt. She made her way through the groups of people already forming, some sitting on the ground, some standing, and some going back to their desks in little clusters. When she got to Caitlyn, Izzy gave a smile. "Hey, Caitlyn. Looking for a group? It's just me at the moment, but...." Izzy shrugged. "At least we know eachother, right?"

Caitlyn spotted Izzy moving through the crowd towards her.

"Hey, Caitlyn. Looking for a group? It's just me at the moment, but.... At least we know eachother, right?"

good, someone she knew, at least a little bit.

"sure, be nice to be with someone I've met. Have you seen Sammy? I was thinking we could go with her too. someone else had better go first though, because I barely even know what my powers are never mind how to 'demonstrate' them"

and how did you demonstrate "speed/agility" anyway? she could presumable go significantly faster than most people, but she didn't know how. What if I can't figure it out at all? whatever. at least she wouldn't be having to explain that she had no clue to total strangers.

Hope stood up and looked around the room. So many people seemed to already have their own little groups of friends already. She wasn't sure which group to get in with, but then she saw her roommate. It seemed like a good idea to try to get to know her better. Hope didn't know the other girl with Izzy, but was ready to make new friends anyway.

She walked over to the two girls and said cheerfully, "Hey Izzy, mind if I join your group?" She turned to the other girl before getting a response and said, "hi, I'm Hope. I'm Izzy's roommate."

Andrew walked into the classroom with his head down and eyes on the floor. He turned his eyes to look at the class but kept his head down. It looked like they were doing some kind of group activity. Great, just what I need.

He walked up to the teacher and handed her a note. It explained why he was late even though she already knew. He didn't want to be here, but he didn't want to stay at home either. The academy had given him more time, but he didn't take it. His house had too many memories and he couldn't stand it any longer.

The teacher took the note and said in a sympathetic tone, "thank you Andrew, I'm glad you could make it. Please find a group and have them explain to you what we are doing right now."

Andrew walked toward the back of the room trying not to look up too much. He felt like everyone was watching him just because he had to show up late. Everyone else had all last night and the day before to get to know each other. He found a place behind a group where he was blocked out of the view of the teacher. He hoped that she wouldn't notice that he didn't join a group.

Caitlyn was just starting to look around for Sammy again when another girl walked up to them.

"hi, I'm Hope. I'm Izzy's roommate."

"hi! I'm Caitlyn. pleased to meet you." Hope. what a pretty name. "I guess we should go find somewhere to do this then."

still looking distractedly around, Caitlyn began to walk towards an empty area. well, if Sammy wants to join us she'll be able to find us. and anyway, it's not like I'm among complete strangers.

When Hope came over and asked to join the group, Izzy was relieved. Now they had three and she had met both of them. But one thought struck her. Both these girls don't know how to demonstrate their power. Which meant that Izzy would probably be the only one to demonstrate any type of ability in the group. She swallowed hard at the thought.

"I guess we should go find somewhere to do this then." Caitlyn suggested.

Izzy glanced around. Most of the area in the middle of the room had been taken. There was one corner of the room up by the front that hadn't been taken. Izzy pointed to it. "There's a spot. Come on." She led the other girls over to the corner and then flopped down cross-legged onto the tile, waiting for them to sit as well before she spoke. "This is as good a spot as any. Uh.....I guess I'll go first." She said, wanting to simply get this over with. Her heart pounded as she looked around for something to move that wouldn't disrupt the whole class. Izzy reached into her pockets and felt a quarter in her left one. Well that would have to do. She brought the coin out from her pocket and held it in her palm. It felt strange to be able to use her ability without fear of her father or the government or the police.

She glanced at the other two girls and then gave a weak smile. "Here goes." Looking at the coin in her hand, Izzy imagined it floating gently up into the air and hovering about a foot above her palm. And to her very great surprise, the coin obeyed. It wobbled a bit and rose up quite fast in a jerky movement instead of a float, but at least it was up and hovering. At least for the moment. Izzy risked a smile, not taking her eyes off the coin for fear of it dropping. "Well that's about it. I can move things without touching them. Not very well apparently. It was supposed to be more graceful than that." Izzy heard a loud "bang" to her left across the room and jumped, her eyes moving quickly towards the source of the noise. What she didn't expect was for the coin to follow her gaze, zooming straight at the back of a teenage boy's head. The boy probably hadn't made the loud banging noise as he didn't seem to be in a group, but as that was where Izzy's eyes had landed, the coin followed. Izzy jumped up. "No, stop!" she cried, reaching her right hand out as though trying to catch it. But it was too late. The coin smacked right into the back of the boy's head and then dropped to the ground, creating a ringing noise all about the classroom. It seemed as if the whole class were looking at her. The color drained from Izzy's face and she felt a bit sick to her stomach, wanting simply to disappear into the floor. Oh God, why couldn't my ability have been to turn invisible instead? Instead, Izzy walked briskly up to the boy, trying to ignore the stares, her face now growing red. "I am so incredibly sorry!" she exclaimed. "A-are you OK?"

((I'm thinking the teenage boy could be Andrew. If that's all right. ))

The eyes that had seemed to follow Andrew when he came in were now starting to go back to their little groups. A wave of relief washed over Drew as he stood there trying hard just to get through the class without having to talk to anyone so he could go to his room and be alone. Unfortunately for him, fate seemed to have something else in store for his time in this class.

"Ow!" Andrew yelped as some small object impacted the back of his head. A hand quickly reached up to the back of his head to try to rub the pain away. Turning around still looking down, he first saw the coin as it rolled around on the floor releasing excess energy and finally wobbling to a stop.

Then Drew looked up and saw the girl who was apologizing to him. "What's the matter with you?! What are you doing throwing coins around the room? You could hurt someone, like, you know ... ME."

Suddenly eyes were looking at him again and he didn't like it. Can't they all just mind their own business and stop watching me? I'm nothing to look at. The teacher would probably figure out he wasn't in a group yet and assign him to one or something stupid like that. This was not going at all as he had planned.

Katherine turned her head as she heard the coin hit the floor. She looked at the coin, then the flustered girl apologizing, then the boy who'd been hit in the back of the head. Somehow, from watching him, despite his anger, she could tell he was hurting. She pried her eyes away, but desperately wished she could grab his arm and pull him into their group, drawing attention away from him.

"Ok...well...I suppose I could try...but like I usually can't do anything unless I'm upset or I really want something to happen.....I suppose if I concentrated, I could do it..." Katherine said, looking unsure.

Then she had an idea. Sometimes things moved when she wanted them to ... kind of like making people do things, except with inanimate objects. She peered around for something small...then she spotted a pencil laying on a nearby desk. She bit her lip softly.

"Watch...." she said quietly to Kade and Kyler, staring at the pencil, which was about 6 feet away from them. The pencil twitched a little, then slowly rolled off the table and onto the floor. Katherine blinked, not sure whether to feel pleased or surprised....or maybe embarrassed. It wasn't much - but at least it was something.

KYLER

"Oh, wow that's pretty cool. I et you can learn to do so much. I suppose i should try mine now." Kyler was kinda nervous. He had never intentionally tried to use his powers before, on the account that it was illegal. They had always happened by accident. "Well, I'm not so sure if i can do it intentionally, but i'll try." Kyler held his hands out and hoped it would work. Soon both of his hands were invisable. Then Kyler changed them back. "wow, that was pretty easy. And thats not all I can do." He again held out his hands, but this time mase them untouchable. "I know they look the same, but try to touch them, your hands will go right through them. " Kyler smiled, which he hadn't done in a long time. "I cant exactly do them both at the same time, or do more than just a small part of me, but I'm hoping to learn. I'm jus wondering, do either of you ever not have control over your powers and have them do stuff on their own?"

"Hi, it's nice to meet you. My name is Lluvia." She paused a moment. "If your name is Flame, does that mean that you can control fire?"

"What gave it away? The firy red hair? The tatoos of flames all down my arms, or a name like flame?" JAson said with a smile. "So they said they wanted us to demonstrate our awsome powers, so watch and be amazed." Jaspn stepped back and lite his hand on fire. then he took that fire and tossed it from one hand to the other. "there's a whole lot more where that came from" Jason said proudly, knowing that he was probably the only one in the room that could control his powers that way. "So, what's your special gift?"

Katherine reached her hand out slowly to try and touch Kyler's...and to her amazement, it went right through! She gasped, her eyes wide. "That's amazing!!" she said, staring in awe.

Her face fell slightly when he asked if their powers ever kicked in by accident. "Yea....it used to happen all the time at school...I got kicked out...they threatened to turn me in to the police if dad didn't home-school me..." she mumbled softly.

Sammy got up and looked around for someone she could talk to. She saw a boy about her age sitting in the back of the room. She walked over.

"Hey!! I'm Sam. You wanna be in my group??"

Connor was a bit shocked by the girl's excited attitude.

"Um... sure. I guess so. What exactly are we supposed to do??"

Katherine reached her hand out slowly to try and touch Kyler's...and to her amazement, it went right through! She gasped, her eyes wide. "That's amazing!!" she said, staring in awe.

Her face fell slightly when he asked if their powers ever kicked in by accident. "Yea....it used to happen all the time at school...I got kicked out...they threatened to turn me in to the police if dad didn't home-school me..." she mumbled softly.

Katherine looked confused at first, then smiled softly. "No, it's ok. I understand what you're saying," she said.

"I've walked through a few walls one time when I was sleep walking...........I think I've done that quite a bit" Kade said with a shurg. "Oh yah....Walking on air? I've done that a few times to...Scared my mom really bad with that one."

"Humm....I wonder if I could do that. Would you show me how Kyler?" she asked. "I think we have simaler powers." Kade added.

Hope watched with a smile as Izzy demonstrated her power. She had seen it before of course, but not when Izzy was actually trying to do something. It was so cool. She became excited at the thought that maybe sometime soon, she'd be able to use her ability and possibly do something cool with it. She was about to ask the teacher to come over and help her try to use her power when there was a loud bang.

That caught her attention at first, but then something moving through the air grabbed her attention. It was the coin that Izzy was controlling. Is she doing that on purpose? Hope clasped her hands over her mouth as the coin collided with the back of someone's head. As the boy started chewing out Izzy despite her apology, Hope stood up and walked over behind Izzy ready to defend her if this boy kept up his attitude.

Izzy had expected the boy to be hurt and annoyed, but the anger with which he spit out his words surprised her. She stared at him a moment, quite speechless, sensing the emotions churning inside him. Angry, yes, but he was also sad. Quite sad, as well as nervous and tense. And embarrassed. But she didn't blame him for that as it was her fault.

She dropped her gaze to his shoes, shrinking at his wrath, feeling about two feet tall. "I'm sorry." she said again, quietly this time. She chanced a look back up at him. "Really, I am. We're supposed to be demonstrating our abilities and as I was doing that I kinda.....lost control of the coin." She stopped, realizing that wasn't going to help. "I know that's no excuse. I just wanted you to know it wasn't intentional."

Izzy glanced around nervously and noticed that the students were no longer looking at the two of them. She didn't know why, but she suddenly felt a strong urge to invite him to her group. "I'm Izzy, by the way. I know this is probably the wrong question to ask right now, but.....I noticed you didn't have a group and.....and well, I wondered if you would like to join mine? It's just over there near the wall." Izzy gestured slightly toward the corner where she had been sitting with the other girls and noticed that Hope had come up beside her. She was grateful for the support. "I'll understand if you don't want to, trust me." She gave a nervous laugh and shrugged. "I just thought I'd ask."

Andrew was glad when the girl was quiet. He felt as though he had taken control of the situation. No longer was he the kid who would just sit around and let bad things happen without doing something about it, he wouldn't make that mistake again. Now he would take action and stop people from being hurt.

But then he looked at her as she apologized once again and tried to explain what happened. It didn't show in his face, but he realized that right then, he was the one hurting someone else. He had just yelled at a girl he didn't know over some silly accident. It's not like he was really hurt or anything, he couldn't even feel the sting anymore.

Andrew looked away from Izzy as he felt himself almost lose the front he was putting on. As he glanced around the room, he noticed that students had looked away and back to their groups. He wondered if he had frightened them because of his reaction. Great, my first day and I'm labeled as that bully kid who everyone is scared of! But then something unexpected happened, Izzy asked him to join her group.

He looked at her and the girl standing next to her who was giving Izzy this "are you crazy" look. Drew had to fight to keep from smirking about that. He looked over to see another girl sitting where Izzy had gestured. The very last thing he wanted to do right now was join a group, especially one of all girls one of whom just accidently whacked him with a 'power-provoked' coin. He was about to refuse right out when he noticed that Agent Razze still had her eye on them.

"Uhh, actually," he stuttered as he quickly surveyed the room. Every fiber in his body was telling him to flee the room. Then he spotted a small group nearby that at least had another guy in it. "Actually, I was just about to join a group over there." He said nodding toward Connor and Sammy. "I should get over there, they're probably waiting for me."

Drew sat down next to Connor and in a hushed voice said, "hey, I don't have to be in your group or anything, you can even ignore me if you want, but can you kinda pretend like I'm in your group so the teach doesn't give me any hassle?"

Izzy watched the teenage boy head over to another group. She was inwardly glad he had somewhere else to go and still felt bad about having whacked him with a coin and embarrassed him so. Still, somehow she felt his quick getaway was a bit of a rejection and it hurt. As if he was still mad at her. The last thing she had wanted to do was draw attention to herself this way. She bit her lip as her throat constricted and her eyes began to burn. She didn't know why she felt like crying all of a sudden. The stress of a new home with new people, making a fool of herself in front of an entire class and then getting yelled at for it was just a bit too much for her at the moment. Maybe coming here wasn't such a good idea after all. The thought entered her mind before she could stop it. And it was certainly convincing. What was she thinking coming here so she could use her powers? She was just going to hurt more and more people. No, stop it. That's what we're all here for. To learn how to control our abilities.

She sucked in a deep breath to keep from crying and then turned to Hope, who was looking at her as if she was crazy for inviting the boy into their group. Izzy cleared her throat. "Well," she said to Hope, "that was interesting." She gave Hope a shaky smile. "Care to go next?"

Caitlyn stuck to the wall, watching the exchange between Izzy and the boy she had hit with her flying coin. Izzy was certainly handling it better than she would have, and she wouldn't really be much of a help. Still, she was a little shocked to see Izzy gesture in apparent invitation back towards her. why does she want him to join our group after he freaked out like that? give him a break girl, you look stupid up there on your high horse. your just grumpy because you don't have any idea how to use your powers and you don't want to explain that to someone you don't know. well half the people here are probably in the same boat, so why don't you just get a handle on yourself?

she tried to look friendly, but still, she was relieved when the guy walked away. she took a deep breath and walked over to Izzy and Hope, trying not to mentally rehearse excuses for not knowing how to do anything.
