Kelco; I knew we would hit it off; LOL!!
Cat!!! How good to see you over here, buddy, how do you like our peer group?

As far as music goes, I love everything that worships the Lord; even the hip-hop sounds great. But I only like a little secular music anymore, even though I was a "head-banger", too.
Country is good, too.
It depends on my mood, basically.

I grew up on country music. Then, in rebellion to my parents, I decided to hate country and started listening to mild metal like Iron Maiden. I heard Master of Puppets in 1986 and was hooked. Then I started getting involved in serious metal.

Now, I still like that guitar and drums (Soundgarden's BadMotorFinger CD is fantastic!), but I have a lot of problems with the lyrics. I can't find any Christian music that quite hits it. I've found solace in Switchfoot, Third Day, Casting Crowns (reminds me a little of Rush) and others, but I still need to feed that loud guitar. Metallica, Rush and other instrumentals fill the bill quite nicely!

(Bass solos - take 1)

claydaman! Hey, I know what you mean, nothing like Iron Maiden, but Yeah, when your heart is in love with Jesus, it is difficult still listening to some lyrics.
What I just did recently is check out the music threads, and the guys over there gave me some web sites of a couple of serious rocking stations and from there, I will make note of who and what, so I can purchase some of these bolder, harder sounds!
Go check it out!
Although I must admit, the softer rock sound with Godly lyrics is good, too, like Todd Agnew, Jeremy Camp and Kutless, etc. But my local station won't play the hard stuff.

I forgot about those - and during regular hours that's all my local station will play. But on Saturday night 9-midnite, KSBJ plays "Planet Lightforce" which is a lot of hard rock and (unfortunately) hip-hop. I don't get to listen to it very often as Saturday is family night. :(

I'll check those out.

Even back in the days that Rush was my favorite band, I had serious issues with "Roll the Bones" and not because it's extremely humanist. It was because it had a "spoken word" section in the song. I called it rap.

Now, I've come to terms and accepted rap as a musical genre. It took me a while. But there is some fun rap to listen to. I started enjoying it with Faith No More's "Epic" in the early 90s. Now that I've grown in Christ, I'm having trouble finding the hip-hop that I can actually listen to.

BTW - when Mary Mary comes on the radio, the radio goes off! :) I can't stand that sound at all! Dance music must die!!!

JUST KIDDING!!!!

You know, I didn't like any hip-hop until DC Talk and Toby Mac came along, and I find I actually enjoy it, as long as the lyrics are glorifying Him!! KJ52 is good, like eminem, but Holy.

I love, love, love TobyMac and DC Talk. But they are the only hip hop / rap music artists I enjoy. I don't like worldly, disgusting rap/hip hop.

Gee, I know who I would've been hanging out with in high school, you guys!
There was this Rush "soundalike" band from the south that my friend and I used to go see, called Zebra. They had one good MTV hit, and then fell off the face of the earth.

I've got two Zebra LPs. One is all scratched up. :( I really liked their song "Who's behind the Door?" I just pulled it out. They are posed like Rush on Grace Under Pressure!

Anyway - yeah, I think you would've been in our crowd -- 'course I was the only one in that crowd that liked this music. Too intellectual for most of my friends!

Now you got me all nostalgic, boo hoo!
They were the best bar band around. Wait 'til I tell my best friend back home.

Be careful picking on Mary Mary fans; I attended a totally black church for about a year, they were more rocking than a lot of white churches!! You were NOT going to sit down when they worshipped, unless you were under 1 yr. old or over 90.

A friend of mine attends a church with a rockin' praise band. I'm too involved with my church's a capella praise team, and haven't been able to visit yet, but I'd like to hear them. He says they're good and loud - kinda like attending a concert every Sunday morning. 'Course, until I've had three or four coffees I'm not ready for good and loud... I guess it's 'cuz I'm 40, eh? Just Kidding!

Nah, that dance music never did anything for me. I wore a "Disco Sucks" shirt all through and after high school. I went clubbing only if they had free drinks 'cuz I couldn't stand the music.
