MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell attempted to run cover for the American media Thursday as two congressmen criticized its coverage of the hospital bombing in Gaza.

The U.S. corporate media parroted the now-disputed claims made by Hamas that an Israeli airstrike hit the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City killing over 500 people on Tuesday night. Officials with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have denied Hamas’ claim, and instead blamed the explosion on a misfire launched by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Democratic Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz and Republican New York Rep. Mike Lawler, both members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, criticized the media for blindly believing the words of Hamas. Israeli and U.S. officials have said they reviewed surveillance footage and have “high confidence” intelligence indicating that a bombing launched by Palestinian Islamic Jihad hit the hospital.

Who takes MSNBC seriously? I thought that the Left just watched if for entertainment, much like a football game.

The 'evidence' pointed to by the Daily Caller generally supports the notion that media were correctly attributing the claims to Palestinian sources:

Original AP headline: "Hundreds killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza City hospital, Health Ministry says"

More hearsay pushed as news?
That Palestinian officials claimed it isn't hearsay. The paper didn't say that Israel was to blame. They said that the Palestinians were blaming them.

Good grief, how could you possibly misconstrue that? If they had one Palestinian official who they wanted to quote then they could have put it in quotes. Would that make it easier to understand?

'Israeli air strike on Gaza hospital kills more than 500' Palestinian official says.

I don't see the media blindly believing Hamas. Most took a neutral stance, waiting to hear from people with actual expertise. PBS New Hour interviewed somebody with military and civilian humanitarian experience, for instance, to get their input on whether the blast could be due to a rocket or due to a bomb. Evidence points to it being an errant rocket fired by Islamic Jihad, as the object created a large fire and not the explosion a bomb would. We also have intercepted radio traffic the US picked up that shows that fighters in Gaza knew it was an errant rocket.

Yes, apparently publishing what someone claims is now "blindly believing" that claim.

Ridicolous.

CNN initially published a headline titled, “Israel hits hospital and school in Gaza as blockade cripples healthcare system,” despite the IDF denying the allegations made by Hamas terrorists. As more information cast doubt on Israel’s involvement in the bombing, the outlet later stealth-edited the headline to read, “Hundreds likely dead in Gaza hospital blast, as Israeli blockade cripples medical response.”

The Associated Press and The New York Times also stealth edited their headlines on the bombing after initially pointing fingers at Israel. The Wall Street Journal and Reuters also blamed an Israeli airstrike.

If you're looking for regurgitated propaganda; the corporate media is for you.

1) Never jump to a conclusion based on any headline
2) If an event just happened, assume it's wrong at last half the time...in wartime, maybe even more so.
3) Always review who is being quoted.....and use the brain God gave you.

The Associated Press and The New York Times also stealth edited their headlines on the bombing after initially pointing fingers at Israel.
In the first instance they said that Palestine claimed that Israel was to blame. Which was exactly the case. In the second, to which you linked, they said that both sides were blaming each other. Again, which was exactly the case.

How on earth is it possible that these headlines could be described as anything but reporting on what is happened?

This is the latest AP report I can find: What we know about the deadly blast at a Gaza City hospital

Gaza’s Hamas-run Health Ministry blamed an Israeli airstrike, and said it killed at least 500 people.
Israeli authorities soon after denied involvement, saying a misfired Palestinian rocket appeared to blame.

This is the latest NYT report I can find: After Hospital Blast, Headlines Shift With Changing Claims

'The Times sent a news alert at 2:51 p.m. Eastern time carrying the Palestinian assertion of an Israeli missile strike on the hospital. When the Israeli military statement came out, The Times sent another news alert on Israel’s assertion that “a misfired Palestinian rocket” was to blame.'

Anyone with any sense can see that both news outlets are reporting on matters as they happen by telling you firstly, what has actually happened as far as is known and secondly, who is claiming responsibility for what happened.

The first 45 minutes of breaking news is crucial. I went to the internet, and the first 10 headlines suggested it was an Iaraeli airstrike, and cited a Palestinian Health Authority, as the source of the accusation.

It wasn't until I saw an article by the Jerusalem Post that suggested it was under investigation, and that it *may* have been a misfire from Gaza.

...But the first 45 minutes are crucial! That's where people tend to make up their minds, especially the less educated. Still, many don't believe the revised version, or they cast doubts about it.

The problems is not the news agencies.

The problem is us.

Our instiable demand for immediate information fuels a new industry that prioritizes being first over accuracy.

Will the OP address these two points?

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. If they report on the information known at the time, they get trashed for being wrong, but if they wait to know all the facts, they get trashed for "covering it up".

They cited an explanation from the "health ministry" on where a rocket was fired from...

...That would be like offering breaking news about COVID 19 from an NFL referee's perspective.

I disagree. We also demand immediate medical care in a health emergency. Does that make "us" the at-fault party in regards to misdiagnosis when faced with a health emergency? Or should doctors take care when diagnosing?

Demand is nothing new.

If the first casualties from covid were a bunch of NFL players dropping dead suddenly on the field, that would be a reasonable perspective for an initial take. They had a quote from the health ministry because it was a hospital that was hit. A discerning reader should be able to assess that, while the health ministry might be a good source for initial casualty estimates and where the attack occurred, their statements on the identity perpetrator are probably less reliable. I had no problem reading that and deciding that there wasn't enough information yet to know for sure who did it. Same as when Israel blamed Hamas without presenting any evidence initially.
