  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Last Temptation of Christ
Pulp Fiction
Childs Play (any and all of them)

I'm sure there's more.

I LOVED The Last Temptation of Christ. It's one of the few movies I've been to in the last 20 years which really made me think.

What IF Christ had said, during the Crucifixion, "I'm not going to do this -- I'm opting out of here -- this is the last straw and you all are on your own?"

We'd be in kind of a pickle, wouldn't we?

but I'm not all over them telling them why they SHOULDN'T feel that way... it's just a movie.

I'm not telling you to not dislike the movie, you can hate it for all I care. But to blindly just shoot off and say that a film or whatever we're talking about isn't quality, when it "is", is wrong. I can't stand when people get the two confused.

As I said, there are some things in this world that are indeed black or white.

With that, I'll stop.

I think a case could be made that Ishtar, Bonfire of the Vanities, and Hudson Hawk, were "quality" movies. The best of the best of everything. To bad the story wasn't. It's not black and white.

But the disagreement is about quality. The point is that you are trying to say that you know what true quality is, when in fact it's just your opinion about quality.

No, not when it comes to art. It is all based on subjective opinion. No exceptions. To say that it is black and white is to say that your standard of quality is better than someone else's, which is quite arrogant.

What is quality for you is not quality for other people, you really gotta stop being stubborn about that. It's great if you are a screenwriter but all the screenwriters in the world put together can not make a movie "quality" in the viewers eyes. Everybody is going to have their own opinion and even in the case of this one particular movie, the Mrs. and our good friend absolutely hated it, while I enjoyed it. To them the movie did not have quality, wasn't interesting and didn't appeal to their taste in movies. I didn't agree, but we left it at that way back when we saw it in the theaters.

And to come off as the final ultimate answer to if a movie is quality or not is even worse, if you want to so judsge being wrong. Are we all going to go ask you now whether this movie or that movie is a quality movie in your opinion since that's how you're coming off? Differences in taste are what make life interesting. Let's get back to the topic of the thread and appreciate peoples different likes and dislikes. Whether we agree with them or not shouldn't have any bearing.

I also don't like:
Star Wars (don't flame me please!!!)
i have never seen any star wars movies, and will not out of principle. i know its terrible to generalise but when i think "star wars" i think "nerds" and thats definitely not a factor which beckons me to rent the movies.

movies i hate:
coyote ugly (could the lead character be any worse of an actress?)
you've got mail (walked out of the theatre on that one!)
one hour photo (had to stay in the theatre for this one because my friend drove.)
crossroads (i love britney, but she needs to stick with "singing.")
jason X (jason in the future? how retarded.)
the bride of chucky (even jennifer tilly, whom i LOVE, couldn't salvage this!)
trick (a boring, stereotyping, gay love story)

best "BAD" movie ever:
mommie dearest ---- what a kitschy classic. so bad it's good.
