Control the information and you can control public opinion. It's reports like this that justify my earlier notions that all the campaigning and advertizing about "high moral values" dubious at best, and a scam at worst.

Actually that "coldest winter in memory" is just as symptomatic of the climate change taking place. Check into it.

Being a bit US-centric here...

Australia is in the middle of the largest drought on record. Its winter here and the temperature is still in the low 20's celcius, and the sky is blue with no rain for weeks and weeks, and no significant rain for months.

I can hardly remember it being so warm, it was only a month ago I was still going to the beach; and I only stopped when we had our first child, which kinda puts a stop to that spontaneous activity.

I'm in Canada. It's been over 30 degrees C since last Friday. That's not regular Canadian weather.

The coldest winter in memory is always last winter. Reading up on global warming trends can be most educational though. Did you know it can actually tend to make some places colder? I think it's less about Hawaii moving to Ohio, and more about weather patterns changing in ways that we won't like.

i think it is thought that the added water from glacial melt, or something along those lines, changes the temp of the ocean water which affects the currents which in turn affects the weather. one must understand how one seemingly simple change can affect many other things.

but yes, the bush admin has ignored science for as long as we've had them.

So this global warming has been going on for 4 years, since Bush got into office.
The proof is that it is warm in Canada for the last few days, there is a drought in Australia and was exceptionally cold all winter. Am I understanding all this? So is this all Bush's fault alone or did anyone else contribute to this?

Crocodile, you're just being silly now. Evidence of global warming isn't tied to our perceptions of what's happening right now with the local weather. People have been trying to address that - since you decided global warming wasn't real because you had a cold winter, others were pointing out that their weather this year was hotter than usual, as a way of showing that one season in one location doesn't amount to anything when it comes to global warming trends. What counts is careful measurement around the world for years on end - thousands of years, really. Now, granted, we've only had about a hundred or so years that we can really consider as being on record, so scientists estimate and extrapolate from what they do have. They're not going to be able to be entirely accurate, and there's room for opposing viewpoints in the debate, but what remains true is that global weather is a real issue, whether it's warming up or cooling off or whatever is happening. And a world that's on average warmer than it has been doesn't mean that every single place on earth is going to experience warmer temperatures all the time. Some places may even become cooler. So to hear about global warming concerns and then just dismiss them because you shoveled a lot of snow this year seems a bit hasty and feels a bit like you're putting your head in the sand to ignore whatever is really happening.

How about now. I can't remember a May and June this hot. We have to run 3500 tons of cooling to a campus less then a square mile in size. There doesn't seem to be an end to it is sight either, I wonder what July and August will be like.

One of the things believed to cause globel warming is our asphalt cities. all the pavement and asphalt build up heat and releases the heat at night which maybe why the average night temperatures are increasing. So who here ready to give up our modern lifestyles up and everyone goes back farming and ride horses?

No-one is saying that its Bush's fault.

What the report says is that Bush is accepting advice from people with outrageous vested interests that just happen to match what he wants to do anyway.

This isn't surprising since he's on record as saying that
* No American should lose their job due to structural changes that would be necessary to mitigate the greenhouse effect
* Refusal (along with Australia/Howard) to ratify the Kyoto protocol.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that consultant reports are actually produced to educate the party that requested the report... more often than not, the consultants report is written to justify a pre-existing position. Trust me... thats the way the world works and the more money that is spent getting the report, the more clout it has. I expect this consultant's report was VERY expensive.

Of course not friend. It's just that in light of the science our current administration has been more than just a little obstinate and stiff necked in responding to the science during the last four years. Maybe that will begin to change now with more shameful evidence coming to light on their part...

Nobody's blaming Bush. Corporations are opposed to any form of environmental protection 99.9% of the time, and it's their interests which are being represented right now (I'm referring to this issue, please don't start a debate here). It's in the interest of all human beings that we all work together on this, and I think people from all viewpoints should be talking about this a lot more.

I agree that global warming isn't Bush's fault. But it is his fault that he's doing nothing and putting a spin on sound science so it coincides with his own agenda. This is yet another reason why I never have and still don't believe that Bush truly has America's best interest at heart. Would it be so bad if some CEO only took home $25M instead of $30M so that a cleaner plant could be made? Apparantly for Bush it is.

Of course it would. We all know that the richer rich people get, the better it is for the struggling workers. Oh, and the environment too, since, you know, corporations always have our best interests at heart.;)

A few years ago, El Nino invaded my land. It was so bad that my city was on the news for a reason other than a murdered woman (i.e. I live in the city of Scott Peterson and Chandra Levi)! Since it occurred during the Clinton administration, I'm guessing that something he did caused it.

Haven't you seen "The Day After Tomorrow." Don't you know that global warming will cause the world to become so hot that it will become cold?

"But it's just a movie," you might say. However, you'd be wrong! Politicians and scientists have expressed support for the movie!
