There needs to be a policy that is written down (somewhere) that says “Don’t loan money to ‘the Blacks!” before it’s evidence of systemic racism?
Opening a branch of your bank that does not offer loans to the surrounding community is just…what? Over-sight?
Or as pointed out before, litigation likely would have made it much more expensive trying to prove yourself right, than agreeing to the terms offered.I'm fine with calling it racial discrimination....they certainly don't seem to think they would have won a court case. Justice served.
Agreed. And when you consider the USA is likely the most racial diverse Nation on Earth, I think it would be fair to say it is likely the least racist nation. You know....because we aren't a racist nation.
It pretty much says what they were accused of. It's just an example showing that banks are still using racist practices and getting caught from time to time. I wonder how many slip through and get away with it. But yeah, redlining is about as systemic as you can get.
Stop defending racist banks. What evidence do you have that the bank rules were racist rather than the people working there being racist?
We had slavery before we were a nation.I don't think we've been a nation for 400 years.
Dodge the subject all you want. They had racist practices and got called on it. If you can't understand that concept I can't help you. They were accused of redlining. What exactly were they doing? I just don't know if the accusations were true or even accurate. Just cause the government accused you of something doesn't mean it was actually happening. I want details before I can comment.
How about if you stop making accusations unless you have evidence to back it up!Stop defending racist banks.

If only the banks would stop settling to avoid trial, we might find out.Neither has the government. They just made a statement without any verifiable facts.

I never said it can't be overcome but it can be an obstacle. But as your article points out there is no real evidence for the kind of trauma you want to use like slavery. Just cause your great great grand mother was a slave doesn't mean you can't function properly in a society cause you are so traumatized by it.
You know what you've been saying. How about if you stop making accusations unless you have evidence to back it up!

"...high rates of psychological distress among children of individuals who survived the Holocaust—and the concept of generational trauma was first recognized."
"
The symptoms of generational trauma may include hypervigilance, a sense of a shortened future, mistrust, aloofness, high anxiety, depression, panic attacks, nightmares, insomnia, a sensitive fight or flight response, and issues with self-esteem and self-confidence, Dr. DeSilva said.
Experts are learning more about how trauma affects the immune system. "It may lead to a dysfunctional immune system—one that's either too active or not active enough," Dr. DeSilva said. "This can result in more autoimmune diseases or a greater propensity for illness."
Trauma also influences the microglia, the brain's immune system. "When in a high trauma reactive state, the microglia eat away at nerve endings instead of enhancing growth and getting rid of damage," Dr. DeSilva said. "The microglia go haywire in the brain and cause depression, anxiety, and dementia. This can translate into genetic changes, which can be passed down to further generations."
I think though that systemic racism is less traumatic. But it is chronic. Of course racism can be traumatic and usually is for the specific victim.

A native Floridian runs a local marathon in Marianna, Fla., to commemorate the 1934 lynching of Claude Neal.
Many in that town, black and white, don't want to talk about that lynching.
