Just curious... which of these ingrediants is unhealthy. I'm just wondering what specific ingrediant should be be eliminated for it to be considered "healthy."

Big Mac®:

Beef Patty
Big Mac Bun
Pasteurized Processed American Cheese
Big Mac Sauce
Lettuce
Pickle Slices
Onions (Dehydrated)
Grill Seasoning

Is anyone here old enough to remember this jingle from the commercial, it must have been in the late 70's, and it goes something like this...
"two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun". You have to sing that as fast as you can! I am singing it right now, can you feel the groove?
Shall we all lighten up a bit?
Being groovy is real groovy, God Bless,J

I'm sure if I worked for a restaurant I'd get a little 'sick' of the food they served too. I think it's like that with any industry actually. My husband is night manager at a Grocery Store and it's like pulling teeth to get him to go shopping with me. Heck, before I had my kids I was a pre-school teacher, but now, once they are out of pre-school age, it's the last option for me as a career, lol.
Just be glad ya have a job, hun, no matter how awful the uniforms are!
McDonalds and other fast food places are a major entry point for MANY people into the workforce. McDonalds is also responsible for the Ronald McDonald House, an organization that provides housing, food, and other assistance to families that have children requiring short and long term stays at out of town Children's Hospitals. They are also a major contributer to a lot of other programs in my own community.
So the food isnt healthy...big deal...the services they provide in many other aspects are worth the few extra calories in their food.

Tuffguy - I am not lazy, in any way, shape or form. Just so you know that!
Course not. :) I sure wasn't speaking at you. I admitted to eating there. I prefer Wendys in a pinch, and sometimes you just have to eat fast food. Habitual eating and actually leaving your home to go get it is when i think people cross the line and become lazy or poor planners.

Gee TuffGuy that is some tough talk. I agree with some of what you say, but you know food in stores has nutritional info right on the package, I think the restaraunts should have to publish the calories right on the menu. Then your argument would really hold water.
You're making my whole point for me man. My point is that people are too lazy to reseach what they are eating. It is agaist fast food places best interest to tell you whats in it because then you may not buy it. Consumer beware.

Its all about personal responsiblity and plain old common sense. If it swam in grease before it got to my plate and its placed on a refined flour bun, and then coated in grease again,,,,,do you think its healthy? Its common sense.

I eat at McDonalds, Wendys or wherever - occasionally. Maybe 6 times per year. On a road trip, it's convenient. I'll admit, I hate to see my kids eat it but the occasional McD's isn't going to hurt them. When I was in high school a REALLY long time ago before all this "fat" America was the norm, I would eat the following, 3-4 times per week: 2 big macs, a hamburger, large fries, 2 milks and a (deep fried) cherry pie (do they still sell pie?). No one made me order all that food, I had a choice. I only weighed 130 lbs. and could get away with it then but my point is I had a choice. I would hate to see fast food restaurants go away because the thought of McD's fries right now is makin' my mouth water. I don't blame the fast food places for fat America. I think people would be overweight even without McD's. No one wants to move any more. The bane of technology.

"two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun" - sing it!

I love the fries, but they have to be fresh. I know they are body pollution, but I will consume a small order occasionally. I just had my annual check up, and blood cholesteral is good, so moderation kids, enjoy all things in moderation. I am glad 2B is singing the song with me! You can get a very healthy spinach salad @ Subway, an O.K. salad with grilled chicken @ DQ, Extreme Pita has some nice salads and they have a yummy Whole Wheat Pita Pizza (Veggies that are fresh). Fitmom eats at these sorts of fast food places a few times a week. I usually have 1/2 hour for lunch - while I drive, so I cannot go home to eat. My husband shakes his head at the state of my car - empty water bottles, empty decaf. coffee cups, wrappers, napkins, etc. Looks like I live in there. But my house is clean! Gotta go help people to exercise! God Bless,J

Growing up Sauce® always knew he wasn't quite like the other sauces. It always took him a little longer to count out popsicle change at the neighbourhood corner store and he didn't always get the meaning behind the jokes his friends told. Things were fine though as he grew up, his friends didn't really care and just loved being with him. But then one crisp fall day his Sauces® mom told him that things were about to change... he was going to go to SCHOOL today like the other bigger kids.

So, with great trepadation and more then a little axiety as is the case with all opening kindergarten days, Sauce® found his desk and began the school day. The teacher, Mr.Whooper, had a warm flame broiled embracing type smile that immediately put all the kids hearts at ease... and so the day began. First they had gym and they all went outside dodgeball and had great fun, followed by health and story time. Sauce® thought things were going to be ok here at school, but oh how things were about to change.... Mr.Whooper told the kids it was MATH time and they all got out their workbooks and began their exercises. But Sauce® immediately felt confused and lost... the numbers just swam around... not making any sense or reason. One by one the teacher would ask the kids for their answer, and every kid got their right and was given a gold star... well at least till it was Sauces® turn. He gave the wrong answer, so the teacher said "Try again Sauce®, whats 2 + 3 = ?" but it was no use... he got it wrong again, over and over. All the other kids soon began to laugh and point fingers. He was the only kid who didn't get a gold star that day.

As the weeks went by Mr.Whooper grew more and more concerned as Sauce® made little or no progress in his mathematics... and both his and Sauces® frustration continued to grow... and the other kids noticed to. They no longer involved him in their recess games... or talked with him in the general school room chit'chat. Sauce® quickly fell behind in almost all areas of his schooling. Mr.Wooper one day sent a letter home with Sauce® and asked to speak with his mother the following evening. As Sauce® and his mom sat before Mr.Whooper, he heard words like "propylene glycol alginate", "sodium benzoate" and "xanthan gum" being tossed around... apparently he wasn't quite like the other kids afterall... he was "special." Mr.Whooper had told his mom that he thought it was best for him to go to a different school, a special school where kids would better understand Sauce® and not make fun of him.

So, the following Monday morning a special yellow bus showed up at Sauces® doorstep to take him to his new school. Sauce® thought it was kinda neat to ride such a short yellow bus... and all the kids were very friendly. When classes began at the new school... the teacher, Mr.McDonald,
introduced himself. He was a large man... and wore funny yellow clothes and had big red lips and hair. He had a very special look about him. As the day began Sauce® felt totally at ease in his new school... like he belonged here. At sharing time each of the kids introduced themselves. A slight, pale looking girl named Lettuce introduced herself... followed by an asian boy named Cheese. Next came another girl who said she would like to be called Pickles. Then another boy who smelled a little strange... Dehy^Onions. A large greek boy name Sesame-Seed-Bun came next. And finally we had the two paddie twins... affectionately name Lips and Tails.

With everyone introduced and getting along together famously... Mr.McDonald thought a song was in order to seal the day and their new friendships together in history...
 ^_^ "Two all beef patties, special sauce®, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!!!" ^_^

Special Sauce®:
Soybean oil, pickles, distilled vinegar, water, egg yolks, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, onion powder, corn syrup, spice and spice extractives, salt, xanthan gum, mustard flour, propylene glycol alginate, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate as preservatives, mustard bran, garlic powder, hydrolyzed (corn gluten, wheat, and soy) proteins, caramel color, extractives of paprika, turmeric, calcium disodium EDTA to protect flavor.

The beef patty for example: it's poor quality meat, their maybe up to a thousand diferent cows in one patty, and they use old, sick animals.

From McDonalds official site:

"Beef, Chicken, Pork and Fish

- McDonald's buys beef, chicken and pork from many of the same nationally recognized suppliers as you do.
- All of the beef, chicken and pork we provide are purchased from federally inspected facilities to ensure freshness, wholesomeness and peak quality when served to you.
- McDonald's hamburgers are made from 100% beef.
- Specifications for our hamburgers call for rigorous food safety procedures.
- Our chicken suppliers conduct ongoing quality analysis as well to assure that the products we serve meet our demanding specifications.
- McDonald's sausage, bacon, salad meats and McRib sandwich pork products are made from high-quality ingredients and blends of seasoning.
- McDonald's uses white fish from the cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean and Bering, Baltic and North Seas.
- Our exacting quality standards for fish surpass federal requirements.
- The ocean-fresh quality of our Filet-O-Fish is a result of the process we use and our ability to freeze the fish at sea to maintain freshness."

Where did you hear McDonalds used "old, sick animals" and of "poor quality" in the production of their beef paddies? I wouldn't mind hearing the source for those accusations if you wouldn't mind (and no... "I heard it on a movie" doesn't count as a real source). Cells from many different animals in one paddies doesn't mean a thing... the finest steaks are cut by butchers using the same knive over and over again all day long. One steak could be cross contaminated with cells from hundreds of other animals, so what?

fallen^sparrow :) I don't even like McDonalds, lol.

fallen sparrow I suggest you read Fast Food Nation. It explains in detail where the meat for McDonald's as well as all other fast food places buy their meat. It is eye opening and written by an objective POV.

I don't eat at McDonal's either... the mere thought makes me sick.

I once knew this person, not the brightest star that shines, who totally beleived what he once heard on T.v., that McDonalds makes their beef patties from the worms from a special worm farm in California. You could not convince this simple person that it could not be true. He insisted. Yet, he eats these burgers regularily?????????

All the books and movies that are a full production made to attack one specific person, business, or thing always makes me suspicious of the source. Many times these people will find as much negative information as there is available, regardless of how legitimate it is, and use it to create hysteria. Why? Because it sells there book or movie! Watch and read for fun and viewpoints, but the Bible is the onle book we read that we KNOW is all truth!!!
