Well TruthinFiction, if you really do work at Relapse and found Mastodon, my hat goes off to you. I got Leviathan last week and can't get it out of my CD player. What a monstrous band with a monstrous sound. I can't wait until I see them live at Ozzfest. The more Christians at Ozzfest the better as I see it.

Just a brief response to this part for now, sheesh, I have a wife and kids this forum thing takes too long, Ha. I don't work for Relapse, and haven't in about a year and a half. It wasn't a very good job. If I heard one more Mortician style band I would have moved to the mountains and lived in a cave. You will be amazed at Mastodon live. I think this will be the best Ozzfest ever and I'm not even an Ozzy fan. I'm now a human resources manager for Cingular Wireless and I write three different columns, updates, whatever the computer talk is for different websites. Finding Mastodon was not as easy as it sounds. I actually wanted to get Lamb of God instead. I went to four different live shows and noticed the cohesiveness of Mastodon and seen the potential. Of course, before then most of the bands I found were German power metal bands, HA. Those are the days we don't talk about.

if you read about their history as a band. they got together to form a band and to make music.

they didn't meet in an anti-christian chat room and decide to start a band so that they could preach against christianity.

and i don't think they have ever been against any SPECIFIC religion, but rather, i think they have been against the idea of religion. They have found things within Christianity to attack because there really are things within modern "christianity" to attack. I think if you look deeper into their lyrics, you'll see that they don't really attacking God or a specific religion, as much as they attack man's approach to God, and religion, in general. They attack the apathetic, fake, hypocritical form of christianity. But i don't think maynard has ever been opposed to a radical christian who really strives every day to be like Christ. He's opposed to the american version of a christian, who goes to church once a week so that they can go to heaven.

Maynard is anti-conformity. his message has been "don't conform to the church".

and i support that message.

TruthinFiction,

Hey, thanks for your insight into all of this. And for being VERY levelheaded and nonattacking to responses that are all too typical, even to some of us in the Christian world. You've conducted yourself with a great deal of respect.

I looked up the lyrics to their albums, and I'm telling you that alot of his words talk about being born again. They all seem to deal with spiritual rebirth. Maybe the lord was using him as an instrument from the beginning. Take the song "4 degrees":
Life's just too short to push it away.
Take it all.
Take it all in.
All the way in.
Let it go.
Let it go in.
You won't feel what you'd like to feel.
Lay back and let me show you another way.

That's exactly how I felt when the Holy Ghost came through me.

Wow. I SERIOUSLY doubt that's what he was talking about there.

You are right, that is NOT what that means. It is about um, looking for a way to say this without offending. It's about a man and a woman, sadly, most of the lyrics involving this subject are dealing with rape and molestation.

I think it's totally rad that he found the Lord. I don't want to offend anyone, but I want to quote one of his songs to see how far he's come:

"Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
Let me lay my holy hand upon you.
My God's will
becomes me.
When he speaks out,
he speaks through me.
He has needs
like I do.
We both want
to rape you."

Maybe now that he's found the light it could be totally Jesus-centered and still rock out. Could you imagine!!!

uhh yea i can imagine it. its gonna f*cking suck!!!

It's totally brave. Maybe he knew all along! "Sprial out, keep going." Maybe he and the Korn guitarist could form a new band. I wonder if we could get Maynard to come speak to some younger kids so that they could hear the truth.

YOU DISCUST ME!!!! how could u ever even think of them two gettin together, Maynard is a genious and Head is a pathetic talentless waste.

Discusting to even think such a thing of them gettin together. You want the truth, i bet Maynard is doing this just to mess with peoples heads cuase hes like that. Good for him if he found jesus but i swear ur opinions are irrational. Brian Welch is molucule in the trash heap compared to what James Herbert Keenan was. Oh and for all you uneducated people who think they know Maynard cause he converted, that was his real name till he changed it.

Hey you all, just checking in for a minute. I want to offer some advice (stop rolling your eyes). Quit downing each other. I mean come on you all. This is life, we are all going to be wrong, we are all going to be right. The whole thing above about the guy from Korn not comparing with Maynard is silly. Now concerning Maynard, I'm going to go out on a limb here and risk being wrong. I now think it is a prank. I spoke with a contact in Los Angeles and he is telling me that Maynard and Tool are recording the album. The whole thing may have been blown out of proportion. There was a side to the argument that said the note from Maynard was not on April Fool's Day, instead the day before but the site that published that is in a different time zone than where the note came from, making it April 1st. Possibly the popularity of the internet and Maynard's other band APC caused more attention than they expected. If you have read the email response from Maynard to Kurt Loder of MTV you can almost sense sarcasm. Maynard says, "Yeah, I found Jesus" and that is all on that part then ends it with, "God Bless Ya". That doesn't look like the way I would expect someone who rediscovered Christianity to respond. Also remember that Maynard despises Kurt Loder and MTV in general, something about their refusal to play his video for the song, "Aenima". This has become a huge spinning wheel of drama. I will stop back by tomorrow if I find out anything else. I do know that blabbermouth.net is running a story about this being a prank. Has anyone else heard the new Meshuggah? I'm just wondering on some opinions of it. I have listened to it for the last hour or so but have still yet to get into it. It has a really cold, processed feel to it. Have a good day and back off the putting each other down.

I'm sure a bunch of people already said so, but, it's a joke. They revealed it as one a few days later.
what "they" are you talking about?

and to theTruthInFiction, thank you for all of your insight. it's much appreciated.

and to everyone else in this thread: calm down. This isn't a thread about Head's guitar skills. I'm sure that there are some posts in this thread that will get deleted/atered soon, because a few of them break CF rules.

anyway, Peace.

and if this does turn out to be a prank, then we can keep maynard in prayer while we enjoy the new Tool album, right roo?

And Thank you for the kind words. I have struggled a great deal with religion and probably always will (analytical mind) but I truly respect Christians. I think having a belief that is stronger than even your own self shows strength not weakness like many want to think. I also wanted to take away from the people who came here to post just because of Maynard and to be sarcastic about the beliefs of Christianity. I have studied a great deal in all religions that I can find information on, Buddhism, Christianity, Wicca/Paganism, Muslim, etc... I can tell you that I can pick apart any and all of the religions but I think that defeats the purpose of having faith. Which I do have. I would like to sometime discuss some of these beliefs that I have concocted in my aforementioned analytical mind. I'm an absolute, "newbie" to forums. I think a few years ago, I posted on a message board on AOL but that was it. My schedule is very hectic but when I am writing for a website, I take breaks and like to browse around on the internet. I have no idea how to get to another topic or if there are topics that pertain to feelings on Heaven/Hell, Narrow Path and so on. Since this is in the music section, are there any Iron Maiden fans? I know I seen someone had a picture of Bruce Dickinson on their post. If you haven't heard Bruce has a new solo cd coming out May 26th of this year. I'm a life-long Maiden fan so it was great news to me. Again, thank you for the kind words.

i guess it was a prank.

:-(
This was just now let out at midnight. That is why I came by to see if anyone had heard. Trust me you all this was not known a few days ago. The story originally posted on MTV two days ago where Kurt Loder was trying to figure it out. Still, support Tool. Maynard has a vision that few people have, Danny on the other hand is out there, way out there. If any of you haven't checked Danny's site you should sometime, dannycarey.org but it may offend some. He has a really interesting story on there about an old church ruins. The rumor is that a handful of people sent email to Tool's official site, toolband.com and were threatening suicide. It's pretty safe to say that the power of the internet was underestimated when they started the prank. I would still like to find out if there are discussions on Heaven/Hell on this site so any information would be appreciated.

Well, there isn't any specific board on the site concerning it, but you could probably find something in one of the sections in this part of the site:
http://www.christianforums.com/f9-discussion-debate.html

This might help when looking for different topics:
By navigating to the top of the page (or very bottom of the page also) there is orange text that links to the particular section of the forums. For instance, at the top of this particular thread:

Christian Forums > For All Members > Music > Secular Music > maynard has found Jesus?

In that text, Christian Forums links back to the main page, For All Members links to a page that displays only the areas that any member can post in, Music links to a page that displays only the areas in the Music section of the board, and Secular Music links to the main page for the Secular Music board, with all the different discussions concerning 'secular' music listed.

"Christians, huh? So forgive me." - Bill Hicks Good news, April fools fans. The writing and recording is back under way. When approached for comment on his recent encounter with the Son of God, Maynard said, "That guy's a punk!"
As it turns out, Maynard was out "location scouting" near the Fourth Street bridge in downtown Los Angeles when he "found Jesus."
"Turns out he was here the whole time, and not that difficult to find if you know where to look," Maynard reported. Apparently Jesus offered him the position of campaign manager for his new line of "Holier Than Thou" sparkling holy water, which Maynard of course accepted. What wasn't obvious was that this guy is a total drunk. It's an occupational hazard. Every time our Lord goes to get a glass of water, it transforms into a generic grocery store Merlot. Because the alcoholic is the Son of God and an all-knowing being, he knew of Maynard’s extensive interest in collecting wine. So he went to work trying to get his lips on it. Maynard caught J.C. in his cellar transforming his precious wine collection into urine, then ****ing it into the empty "sparkling holy water" bottles for the eventual sale to all those people who bought, read, and embraced "The Celestine Prophesy." Tragic.
"Truth be told," Maynard confessed, "I wasn't feeling top notch when I found him. The evening prior to the day in question I had over-indulged in a series of bad Molotov shrimp cocktails with a side of Makers Mark and twin strippers. So after an entire night of G.I. Blowouts, hot/cold sweats, and blurred vision, it's very possible that the guy I met wasn't even Jesus at all. For all I know, it was Willem Dafoe."

Nice prank maynard, you had me going!!!!!
