it has to be a joke. cuase i know maynard wouldnt do this, i mean he spent his whole life preaching on being open minded and not confinding to a religion. why would he do that, its like erasing his past

True, but isn't that pretty much EXACTLY what the Apostle Paul did when he was named Saul?

People "find" Jesus in a lot of different ways. Even people who have done everything they could to drive people away from Christ. Sometimes people just bottom out, emotionally or spiritually, and find peace in the words of the Bible. Sometimes they have a powerful personal experience. I don't look at a person's past as any kind of indication of how likely they are to become a Christian.

You would think if true, there would be something on http://www.maynardjameskeenan.com/

I heard the rumor, and typed this in on Google.com, and this forum was first on the list. (Kudos to being on the top.) I had a look in to see what this mess was about, and then I find things such "Maynard is an Atheist." This is simply not true. You people need to get a grip and have some religious tolerance. Just because one is not Christian, doesn't mean that one is an Atheist. Maynard is a follower of Alister Crowley's 'religion' which involves the third eye and other religious metaphors.

Second, Maynard becoming a Christian would ruin Tool's purpose. They are here to teach the REAL truth. It doesn't matter what your religion is. It doesn't matter what your beliefs are. You're going to die, and you're not going to like it. I can almost guaruntee you that Maynard has not "Found Jesus." You also say that you actually would be thankful if he had truly converted. Not only is that blind, but it is also an insult to the real believers of Maynard. Tool would no longer be the unique, mysterious band that they had come to be.

If you delete this post, it just further proves that religions are blind to those around them.

You bash Manson, you bash NIN, and you bash Tool. Nobody bashes your silly little worship bands. I have to admit, Manson is a bit of a shock-rocker, but that doesn't make him less of a human than the rest of us.

What do you suppose are the chances that he's converted, announced by an unconfirmed e-mail to a fansite on April Fools Day, with no mention on their official site? Slim? None?

it wasn't april fools day and the original post is on their official site www.toolband.com ... they confirmed it on the fan site... whether that's part of the joke, no one knows.

and those saying maynard's too "anti-Christian" (i know he's not, but you get the idea) think about the apostle paul... he was cheif persercutor of christians and was converted to the greatest missionary ever...

is maynard being converted possible? unlikely, but very much possible...

It's not a joke or a hoax. I'm a personal friend of Danny Carey, drummer for Tool. He told me about this a week or so ago. I do think it will be hard for Tool to go on now. Someone said that Maynard was a believer in Crowley, no, Danny is the one who is into the third eye beliefs. Maynard is a very spiritual man in his songs but most do lean towards the downing of organized religion. Many people think they understand the songs and lyrics but have them all wrong. Maynard has even said not to try and figure out his lyrics because you will get them wrong. What I do know is that there are many people upset by this decision by Maynard. The guy from Korn leaving them meant nothing compared to what this means for Tool. I'm sorry to the person that I corrected but you are just going on heresy and misunderstanding of lyrics. The most misunderstood lyric is when Maynard tells Jesus to come down off his cross, they need the space to nail the next fool martyr. The true meaning and Danny has told me this, is that so many Christians do not live the way Jesus wanted them to so he shouldn't die for them. Remember, earlier in the song, he sings, "Would you, lay down, to die for me". The song was much deeper than what people wanted to believe. I will post something as soon as I have any new news.

Tool's Maynard James Keenan Says He's Found Jesus
04.05.2005 5:32 PM EDT

Status of Tool, A Perfect Circle unclear.

Has Maynard James Keenan, the frontman of both the dark, heavy-metal art band Tool and the somewhat lighter A Perfect Circle, found Jesus and been born again? Well ...

Recent postings on two Tool Web sites — one of them purportedly by

Keenan himself — contend that the singer has found religion and has left Tool. Could this really be? On Tuesday afternoon (April 5), MTV News' Kurt Loder e-mailed Keenan for confirmation, and this is what he e-mailed back: "I did, in fact, find Jesus. More news to follow. God bless ya."

Keenan's letter to fan site toolshed.down.net explains that "some recent events have led me to the rediscovery of Jesus" and that "Tool will need to take the back seat." A posting on Tool's Web site alludes to Maynard's newfound Christianity as well, but who wrote the post is unclear. It reads, "I went to the studio to give Maynard a bottle of wine ... [and] not only wasn't Maynard there, but ... I was told Maynard has indeed 'found Jesus' and that, for this reason, he's abandoned the project for the time being, if not entirely."

But given their timing (one dated March 31, the other April 1), both posts were dismissed as April Fools' pranks, leaving fans wondering whether Keenan and the rest of Tool were just having a little fun with everyone.

The band's management could not be reached for comment or confirmation on the matter.

Keenan would be the second rocker in as many months to profess a renewed interest in religion. In late February, Korn's management formally announced that guitarist Brian "Head" Welch was leaving his band to rededicate his life to Christianity (see "Brian 'Head' Welch Talks God To 10,000 In California Church").

Whether Keenan — the man responsible for songs like "Prison Sex" and "Jerk-Off" and who for a time carried business cards with the name "Jesus H. Christ" printed on them — will become the second rocker to turn his back on a high-profile, highly successful band to follow a more spiritual path remains something of a question mark for the time being. But at least one person expressed glee over Keenan's apparent decision: Head.

"This is a beautiful, beautiful outpouring of the Holy Spirit," Welch wrote in an e-mail to MTV News.

This seems to me to be false. Tool is a great band for many other reasons besides their religious skepticism. At the least, Keenan's lyrics are not great because they are atheistic or anti-Christian, but because they are intelligent and emotive. And, they still will be even if Keenan becomes a Christian; they just will be from a different perspective.

Even so, I'm still pretty skeptical. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't all just a rumor.

Little known fact: I am actually the arbiter of the REAL[sup]TM[/sup] truth. You don't have to worship me or anything, though. I'm kinda laid back about it. To tell the truth (and I have to *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*), I'd rather people just left me alone about it; it's a pretty annoying job. Every time I try to talk to someone it's 'sorry' this and 'forgive me' that and 'I'm not worthy.'

tool's purpose, i don't believe is to teach any truth. i think they are artists, musicians. if you asked them, i think they would tell you that tool is a band, and their purpose for being a band is to create music.

so....

you're a little off.

no amen.

jesus could royally kick the dung out of anyone. you see, jesus is a part of God. and God is so rediculously holy that you gotta be careful around his presence. you might burn or freeze or something wicked like that.

even if MESHUGGAH are gods, God is the God of the 'gods' too. So, basically, they wish they could be in God's band. But their skills and levels of holiness won't allow for it.
