Hi Lily,

My Navy experience was 40 years ago, but as I look back on it I'm proud to have worn that uniform ~ the same that my Dad wore in WWII. In December I went aboard USS Constitution in Boston Harbor. What an experience that is. It was snowing like crazy and we had the ship to ourselves. Our guide, a Seaman Apprentice, took me down to the keel, which was laid in 1794; I stood on that ancient timber. :) I was lucky to have served aboard two historically significant ships ~ USS Enterprise and USS Intrepid.

Check Constitution out here: http://www.ussconstitution.navy.mil/

Good luck.

Hello! I called a Navy Recruiter today. I am going to set up an appointment sometime tommorrow. That will answer a lot of my questions since I was thinking about joining. It isn't set in stone yet, but I have many questions about my future and where God wants me. Maybe an assistent chaplain in the Navy would be the right place.

But until then, I would love to hear from some of the Navy here on Christian Forums. Anyone? I'd just like to hear some of your personal experiences and what it has done for you. And I know there is no branch of the military better then the other. I was just thinking Navy because my brother was in it and my nephew just graduated boot camp, and my sister almost joined! So what about other branches? Is it pretty much the same? Are they very different from each other?

But mostly from the Navy since that is the one I would probably most join.

Is boot camp as bad as in the movies? I wake up at 2:30am every morning for work so as far as that goes, I'd probably get more sleep, but do they yell all the time? :o

Tomorrow I will be picking my rating i.e. my job, see I have been waiting for a wavier for my asthma and my recruiter feels very confident that I will receive a wavier for the asthma. So he wants me to report to the Navy recruiter office so that I and a recruiter can go to MEPS to wait for the wavier and then once the wavier comes through I will go into the Navy office and pick a career.

Cool right now I'm in DEP and the job I took was SK(store keeper) but I decided that I wanted to really learn a skill so I asked my recruiter to change my job to CS(Culinary Specialist).

Um....interesting. Why will people want to be my friend because I'm in culinary arts? Do they think I will get them better food if they treat me really nice? What do you do as a ET?

You know, I am not too sure. I am guessing he is somewhere in computers. Can't give out last name but his name is Scott, has blonde hair. If you see him, tell him his niece said hi, I'm proud of him, and still have his graduation card. :)

Did you make it yet college!!!! I didn't make Living Proof. I was really hoping I would, but I just have to figure out where God wants me.
Yes I made it right now I leave September 4 for boot camp, when you leave is dependent on what job you take and I am trying to change from Store Keeper also known as (SK) to Culinary Specialist (CS). I figure with CS I can get more skills with that job. Right now I am in something called DEP (Delayed Entry Program). So my recruiters refer to me as Last name DEPPER, so if your name was John Smith people would call you Smith Depper.

Congratulations College!!! I am glad someone on this thread is joining the Navy. :D

Hopefully you can change to CS since you haven't left yet. I heard that once you start, it is very difficult to change rates.

Yes I did some checking into how easy or hard it is to change rates....my recruiter told me after 18 months I could change if I wanted to, but I wanted to hear a second opinion so I went to military.com and asked them and they told me no its not. So I really had to decide could I be happy for four years with CS or SK? and I decided I could be, the reason I asked my self if I could be happy is cause if I couldn't then I knew I should back out now rather then waiting.
