  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

May I ask the Navy?

There is soooooo much information and resource stuff on Military.com.

They have great family resources also, and 24 hour hotline staffed by live people. It has been indespensible for me during deployments. I got a great DVD for my kids explaining deployment to kids, and the stages, etc.

I can't rave enough about it.

We have been here for 2 1/2 years. The Marine Corps doesn't have many duty stations, so certain MOS's can end up at the same place forever. Harrier pilots/mechanics, for example, only go here at Yuma or Cherry Point. So most of the Harrier guys I know stay at the same station forever.

My husband used to be in artillery, but after a haywire surgery, he is admin now. So we go all the time. He has done MEU floats, though. He just returned from Iraq in September. We are headed back to the ground side, so he may spend more time on floats once we move.

Are you going for technical stuff or medical? The USMC can't live without their "docs".

Wow, that is really cool! It must be hard, but I am sure it is exciting. I think it is easier single though then it would be married. I can definitely see why you are worried/stressed.

If I can't get chaplain's assistent, I like Office and administration. I have 30 credits from college so I will go in as an E3 already, but I will take college also in the Navy for free actually I found out!!!! So I will be able to work my way up hopefully. :)

I'll do that! First though, my recruiter said that I have to see a psychiatrist because of the depression I went through. It will hold the process back a little I am sure, and it really is a toss up as to whether they will let me in or not. But I am falling in. I'm going, and may the Lord's will be done. It may or may not be the right time for me to join the Navy but I know with all my heart, soul, and mind that I can do this thing. I don't want to go back to a psych. I just threw away my meds and got through it on my own with the help of my family and friends, but I will go. I am not ashamed of this thing. It is a part of what I came through. I am strong in the Lord, and because of that, no matter what is in my future, I proceed with my head held high. ^_^ And hopefully they will see that I am mentally capable of doing this.

In the Navy I know that it is 6 months to sea, 6 months on land.

If you are on shore duty then you don't got to sea for the length of your tour at that shore station. You could however be assigned to a command that although may be on shore does send people out to sea to train Sailors, help them fix equipment or augment certain functions on a ship. If you are on a ship you could go out for a day, a couple days, a week, a month, several months, half a year or more and there would be inport periods that are obviously just as varied depending upon the ships schedule.

Another factor is your occupation and paygrade. Certain occupations are more sea intensive than others. Sailors in those fields spend more time assigned to a ship than others. An extreme example would be say a Quartermaster and an Equipment Operator (SeaBee). A QM's job is primarily performed at sea whereas a EO's job is performed on land. EO's may be deployed to an overseas location or even do overseas shore duty but rarely do they ride a ship unless it's to get from A to B.

Wow! There is a lot to being in the Navy! ^_^ How long did it take you to learn all of this!

Smart and experienced. Oooh!!!! Can't wait to learn all of this.

I am thinking about the Navy too. I had tried going into the Air Force but was given a medical rejection because I had asthma when I was younger but I have medical records that the asthma went away around the age of 13. The Navy recruiter feels confident that I will be able to get up to MEPS for my physical. Thanks to all of you for this thread cause this is good reading!

:) I hope it goes well for you. If they gave you a medical rejection for asthma though, I just don't know if they are going to approve me. But again I say, the Lord's will be done. It means a lot, but the will of my Father means more.

I'm sorry you are "up" on the fact that this is a SUPPORT and ENCOURAGEMENT area for military servicemembers and their families.

As has been stated in reposting of the rules, you are more than welcome to post your hatred of the military and it's members in the debate adn political areas of CF...but in THIS forum and it's subforums, you can either be supportive, or have your posts which violate the rules deleted.

In other plainer words:

Go bash on the military and it's service members elsewhere, it will NOT be tolerated in here.

Gwenyfur said it, though I think I missed something. :D

But I just want to let all the military on this board know, that you have always had my support. Thanks a lot for all that you do, have done, and will do. Shara:angel:

 I hope it turns out well for you! I took the practice though with only glancing at the book, and it is quite a book.

As far as what happened, my recruiter has never called back. So I really think the answer is no. But that only means that the time is not right. Maybe one day.

You could try for another branch like the Army I hear they are more easy going with things like that since they need people badly they will over look a lot more and try to help you get waivers for stuff. But I would first call and make sure you are totally done with your Navy recruiter. I had been trying to get in the Air Force and my Air Force recruiter wouldn't call me for days but then suddenly call asking for more info or telling me he was going to try something else to help me get in the Air Force but eventually I got a medical rejection.
For me with the Navy so far they have seemed to really bend over backwards to try and help me get in and I have medical issues that they need a waiver for but so far nothing has disqualified me. I suppose its important to have documentation of everything.
