You've missed the point entirely. The system is SET UP such that waiters and waitresses make their living from the tips they receive. You are paying for their service. If it were turned around that they would be paid by the restaurant for the value of their work, then the overall cost of your meal would be a whole lot higher!

I'm not going to judge you as a Christian, but I am going to suggest that if you are so reluctant to give a person a few bucks for serving you, that maybe you shouldn't eat in restaurants at all. The way the system is set up, if you don't tip, you're expecting that person to work for you for free.

(And if you think you work twice as hard as a waiter or waitress, I'd like to see you spend one day in their shoes. You'll come away with a different view, I promise you!)

Do you want your employer to pay you for the work you do? Is a worker worth his wages, as the Bible says? Then maybe you should look a little more kindly on the guy or woman who brings you your food and wonder what that service is worth. And don't judge them for ANYTHING. You don't know what their private lives are like. Maybe they're working their way through school. Maybe they're working an extra job to try to make ends meet. Maybe for some reason being a server in a restaurant is the only thing they can do well, or they just love people and want to serve them in a casual atmosphere. YOU DON'T KNOW! So don't judge them and say they should just get a better job.

ok how did this thread go from "how we shoud pray public or private....to how much a waitress makes?

Jesus said to do it in private.....but that does not mean all the time...I think when you want to give an "intamate" prayer to God it should be private only for the fact that it is goig to be more focused.......Jesus wanted us all to do the "chruch" thing...and praying then and there I believe is not what he was speaking of in this verse.

I think the whole point with that verse, is if you're gonna pray, pray to the Lord and to him alone. If the only reason you pray is so other people can hear you pray, it is wrong.

I think also it's right to ask the Lord to bless your food, but wait to you have the food and the waiter or waitress is finnish with putting the food on the table.

So nothing wrong to pray in public, but pray to the Lord alone and not for everyone. God will hear you without you yelling.

I should have put better between quotation marks! because it is a decision and opinion.

Perhaps I'm oversimplifying it, but the passage is dealing with the Pharisees issues of pride and arrogance in the market place. They were praying to be heard. They wanted people to think of them as wise; etc., etc; Jesus often blasted them for their holier than thou attitudes and a lack of true sincerity. He says much the same thing about fasting -- wearing a long, painted face so that everyone would know you were fasting. The emphasis is on sincerity not scenery. The Lord cares not where you pray but the attitude of your heart when you pray. A broken and a contrite heart will never be turned away, whether you are in your prayer closet or Wendy's!

How could anyone say this better.
