How is 'Secret Spells Barbie"in any way a 'Wiccan Barbie'?

Is it the Dragonfly? The rest of her gear seems to have little to do with Wicca?

" Transform Barbie from an ordinary girl to one of the Charm Girls. Just put on Barbie's "enchanted" Charm Girl jacket and she's ready to mix up delicious potions that you can really drink. Barbie comes with costume, dragonfly, mixing pot, stand, spoon, stirrer, three bottles, book with a secret compartment, and two packets of "magic" powder (sugar-based mixes you mix with water). Barbie measures approximately 11.5 inches tall. "

MrsMom, how do you know what constitutes Wicca, and what doesn't, unless you ARE ONE?

HMM...?
Because someone selling a "Secret Spells Barbie" used the word Wicca in the title to increase page views of their auction. Why would they use that word if it wasn't a true representation of Wicca????:D

1. "Secret Spells" does not equal Wiccan. Voodoo practitioners, Pagans who do not practice Wicca, various native faiths, and even some Christians do spell work.

2. This is obviously a cheap, stupid ripoff of the standard "witch who casts love spells" myth.

LOL nah, I played with GI Joe too :p hated barbie, we used her for Cobra bait.
That's strange, me and my friend used to play with barbies a lot. It turns out they're flamable in a wide variety of situations, and they burn very interestingly. I think we dissolved one in acid once too.

"Borg Barbie" hmm if you think about it there does seem to be a connection: they both come in cube-like objects, everyone is basically the same, everyone they encounter is co-opted in to the collective, every trend that comes along is "assimilated", they seem to have been around forever, really the resemblance is uncanny! (and a little scary!)

I for one will not allow any further barbies in my home. I will replace all of my daughters barbies with something a little less disgusting and send them all back to mattel with a note letting them know they have lost my childs allowance money and any money we may have spent on them also.

I saw the commercial for this Barbie last night. Three girls make 'potions' and then lift their glasses (which look like they come with the Barbies) and look like they are going to drink - then the commercial ends. The potions are to attract the attention of boys, I think.

A year ago I wouldn't have batted an eye - now I was really creeped out. That's one Barbie I will not be getting for my daughter - and I am a person who doesn't mind Harry Potter. I think it was the whole aspect of tying in the kids making a love potion with the doll.

I find it very sad that the majority of Christians find nothing wrong with this Barbie. I saw the commercial for this doll and I was appalled. Why is it so hard to believe that this doll can spark an interest in witchcraft??? People need to wake up and realize that this sort of thing is serious. Do you honestly think Jesus would approve of this? Come on.

And a toy that bothers me, does not necessarily bother another set of parents.
You're own words... It bothers you that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be made.

Secondly, If I was to take this doll as seriously as you seem to, then I too would be outraged. She is far to 'fluffy'. I don't want my kid growing up a wannabe pagan. I want her to follow the spirit in her heart. Making love potions, toying with emotions in other words, is not part of being pagan, wicca, or any other self respecting earth based religion. Thank you very much.

Finally: Did none of you ever read/play with/expose yourself to anything that made you pretend even for the smallest moment that there was magic in the world? Never? If so, then... I pity you more than you can ever know. If not, then why are you so worried? You fantasized about magic and then you grew up and decided/discovered/were enlightened to the fact/whatever that your God doesn't abide by it and therefore it comes from the Devil and is evil ect and forgot it to go on with your happy, Christian, lives. So what's the problem?

If a kid played with a witchy Barbie and suddenly wanted to learn about Wiccans and pagans, she'd probably respond with, "What the?! These guys aren't anything LIKE Secret Spells Barbie!"

I find it interesting that Christians have a problem with saying "abracadabra" to get someone to fall in love with you, but aren't likely to have a problem with saying "god please make this person fall in love with me" to get someone to fall in love with you.

Some of these posters are correct about the influence of Barbie dolls.

I, for one, was influenced by Batman. I wanted to be the Dark Avenger so badly, I even dressed up like him for Halloween.

Then I grew up.

Give your kids credit, unless you did a bad job as a parent, they should know the difference between make-believe and reality.
