Mattell makes Wiccan Barbie - Is this right?

What's to stop your child? You. Do you just let your kid go somewhere without knowing the parents of the other children they are hanging out with? Mine never did.
Am I being led to understand that you knew exactly every toy that every friend of your children owned? I find that hard to believe. You might think you know everything about your children's friends parents, but I guarantee you did not. And a toy that bothers me, does not necessarily bother another set of parents. You say you don't like toy guns, well don't pretend to tell me that your children never played with a child that owned a toy gun. You just can't screen people like that. It's better that these toy manufacturers don't create controversial toys in the first place. Wouldn't that be refreshing! But they will never stop creating these toys as long as people don't protest or complain.

We're getting drastically off-topic here. I didn't post to be called names or labeled paranoid and a lousy parent. I was simply bringing up a topic for discussion. I'm sorry some people jumped to an assumption that I was discussing a different doll but I certainly can't control that.

I'm telling you, that I wouldn't let my child go over to someone else's house without me, until I had spent quite a bit of time with that child's parents, and knew how they felt about things like this for instance, if it bothered me.
Yes I would flat out ask them if they let their children play with toy guns, it's just that easy.

I don't recall anyone calling you names, nor a lousy parent.

I can't say that I'm too concerned about the possibility that my kids might go around to a friend's place and be exposed to missionary dolls and come back a Christian, or be exposed to violent literature, like the Bible, and come back slaughtering Amalekite infants. What effect exactly do you think a Witchy Barbie would have on a kid?

MrsMom, look, this is all a gimmick. This is right up there with Princess Barbie. Every girl wishes they could be a princess or be something like this.

It's like boys and G.I. Joe.

And that secret spells comment was just pathetic.

Ok, that's a bit rude.

Borg Barbi :)

Annabel, this drone's birthday is coming up. ;) ;)
It would be nice to have a little friend to take along while assimilating cultures..wouldn't it?
I wonder if this Barbie comes with a pink minivan and matching shoes? Probably not. :)
Wonder how Ken feels being the boyfriend of a borg drone? Oh who cares...just tell him to shut up and assimilate him.

And he thought, "Resistance is futile" was a come on line. Silly Male.

I think would be a good idea for Matell to pull any product promoting any type of religion. Obviously we can see what an outcry it causes.

While I don't agree, I've yet to see any evidence that mattel has anything to do with the doll, it can't be found on any mattel site. I have a hard time believing that that there would be a pic and news of it's impending arrival, without at least a press release from mattel.

The one I'm referring to is the one where the takes the sales pitch of "Secret Spells" and makes it seem as though little girls everywhere will start keeping secrets from the parents who bought them the dolls.

Seriously, the dolls don't come with spells pre-packaged for the girls to cast or whatever.

It really didn't matter what post you were reffering to, calling someone's opionon, or statement, pathetic, is just rude. There's other, more polite ways to disagree.

MrsMom, so far I have been unable to find anything regarding "Secret Spells" Barbie on the Mattel site or any other official information regarding it. None of the listed retailers that Mattel refers to to buy their products has it either.

However, I saw a few copies on ebay. Not exactly sure who makes it and who doesn't.

However, the pictures I have seen of the doll don't seem to resemble much of anything witchcraft, nothing more than you see in Harry Potter. It is all brightly colored and stylish. Just barbie with some little spell book (of which I bet are cheesy anyway), and a little stirring pot (cauldron?). You can find the same thing in Harry Potter, and plenty of kids play with that. You can also find the same in say, some various themed Lego sets.

I doubt this would drive children to witchcraft, especially after seeing it. The Barbie that was linked to earlier I don't believe is the actual one. This is a picture of it, reminds me very much of a Harry Potter Lego set for girls, which had brightly colored things that resembled the pic

I dislike Barbie totally, however, I wish I could have the Borg one :D

Well, Matell owns the Barbie trademark and sells the dolls through KB Toy Stores - though they have changed the name of it since its release on January 1st 2003.

Different countries have different names for it.

I still think its no big deal.
