Take any male who masturbates 3 times a day for a year and tell him to stop doing it....

What about a woman who does so? And why should he quit, as long as it doesn't interfere with his life?

Masturbation is just as addictive than cigarettes.

Do you understand why cigarettes are addictive? The potent chemicals that they contain? I ask you again, if masturbation is such an addiction, why are there no clinics for it? Just because one does something three times a day doesn't make it an "addiction." Masturbation doesn't cause cancer. It doesn't hurt your body in any way. As long as a person can still work and get eight hours of sleep per night, what difference does it make how many times he masturbates?

And I am sorry that my "evidence" (even though I never claimed it to be evidence, just an observation) is not good enough for you... personally, even if I did come up with a scientific poll in my favor, I am sure any person disagreeing with me would still argue just as much as you are now...

No, I wouldn't. If you came up with scientific evidence suggesting that what you say is true, then I would happily agree with you. Until then, all we have is anecdotal, personal stories.

It is being increasingly recognised in mental health circles that masturbation can relieve depression and lead to a higher sense of self worth. Masturbation can also be particularly useful in relationships where one partner wants more sex than the other - in which case masturbation provides a balancing effect and thus a more harmonious relationship.

Both from the standpoint of avoiding unwanted pregnancy and that of avoiding sexually transmitted diseases, masturbation is the safest of sexual practices. There is no credible scientific or medical evidence that manual masturbation is damaging to either one's physical or mental health, with the exception of some cases of Peyronie's disease and traumatic rupture. In such instances, aggressive manipulation (e.g. inversion during adolescence, bending or twisting) of the penis and subsequent injury to the tunica albuginea or corpus cavernosum results in a localised fibromatosis, distorting the erectile appearance. Contrary to popular myth, masturbation does not make the palms hairy or cause blindness or genital shrinkage. The only side-effects recorded are that repeated masturbation may result in tiredness or soreness, which tend to make repeated masturbation self-limiting in any case, and that the volume of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] is temporarily reduced in men after multiple ejaculations until normal seminal volume is regained in a day or so. Nevertheless, people from a socially conservative or religious background and other sensitive persons may experience attendant feelings of guilt during or after masturbation.

On July 16, 2003, an Australian research team led by Graham Giles of The Cancer Council published a medical study [3] (http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/links/doi/10.1046/j.1464-410X.2003.04319.x/abs/) which concluded that frequent masturbation by males may help prevent the development of prostate cancer. The study also indicated that this would be more helpful than [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] through sexual intercourse because full sex can transmit diseases that can increase the risk of cancer instead.

Thank you wikipedia.

The way I see it, is that when you're going through puberty and whatnot sex is going to be on your brain, most likely. For a few years sex was almost all I could think about, and I never understood why. Now, I do. It was simply crazy hormones (birth control straightened this out) and simple curiosity about what it'd be like, coupled with extreme boredom and slight depression. (In other words... I really had nothing else to do, no mental stimulation whatsoever thanks to my living situation.) Did I get over it? Yes. Masturbation and sex rarely even enter my mind anymore, but boy were they a big thing a few years back. So what's my point? Whether it's a sin or not depends on the person, I guess... but from my experience the "lust" could pretty much be controlled by masturbating. Afterwards, I could actually think with a clear mind without "SEX" popping into my head like a big flashing neon sign. :p

hi,

I struggle with MB but I must say it is most likely a sin because we are commiting adultry in our minds for the most part. I think someone might be able to MB by just toughing self without thinking but it is hard to do.

keep your head up
ask for forgiveness after you do it
and ask for help
we're weak, we need help

Meh, I don't think you should feen guilty about it at all. I mean, the way I see it, is God made us to become sexually mature around 13, because that's pretty much when everyone started getting married way back when. Now that times have changed and we wait till mid-20's to get married (well, if you're smart anyway) I don't think He expects us to just put up with rampant sexual desire. I don't think He minds at all if you indulge yourself in a little release, especially since afterward you can think more clearly and whatnot. Everyone worries about the stupidest things... I just don't see it as that big of a deal. I've never seen anyone who was so fixed on masturbating that he/she never did anything else. If that happens, usually family will get that person some help (or at least I'd hope so...)

I'm afraid you're mistaken. While there are no "clinics" solely for the treatment of masturbation, that doesn't mean it's not "treated". The website http://settingcaptivesfree.com, deals with it, along with drinking, smoking, and overeating. Scientists recently discovered masturbation causes an endorphin rush in the brain-the same one you get when using drugs. This is the reason it "feels so good", our brains revel in the experience as well. Problem is, quite often the brain gets accustomed to the rush, and we find ourselves doing more to acheive it. This turns into what is commonly referred to as "addiction."
No, masturbation doesn't hurt your body physically. Mentally and spiritually it does. Working support groups with men who have battled this opens your eyes a little. Before you make snap judgements, sit in on one, or read the testimonies of those who have overcome it. Their stories are remarkably similar to alcoholics or drug addicts. "A little couldn't hurt"..."I did it to relieve tension"...Many of them wound up living secret lives, hidden from their wives and families, spending thousands of dollars in movies, internet sites, prostitution, and even the dark realm of child porn. Even pastors.
I'm not suggesting all those who do it turns into "deviant sex addicts". I am stating that the possiblity exists. How do I know? Because I have heard it over and over.

I don't think masturbation is a sin - but what about the sexual fanatsy that is attached to this act. I don't think (as someone said in the earlier post) you can touch without the sexual fantasy part. The question is then, is it ok to sexually fantasize your girlfriend/boyfriend or some movie star or some imaginary character (your dream woman or man!). Is this a sin or it is perfectly healthy?

Anybody out there who you know or (it might be you) who can touch without the sexual fanatsy?

The only reason that masturbating might hurt a person mentally and spiritually would be that we have had it hammered into our heads from age zero that it is sinful, bad, sick, and that it will make us crazy, so when we touch, it is those words and thoughts and ideas that hurt us, make us feel guilty, think we are committing a sin. All the masterbating does is to release the built up tension. Get real folks

Done it a couple of times. Next.

Seriously, as an atheist the sin concept of masturbation doesn't bother me.
Biologically you're going to 'spill seed' anyway so it's hardly harmful.
No physical damage within reason.

Even when I was in a relationship I found mutual masturbation to be more enjoyable than 'real' sex.

Masturbation is very safe sex. No pregnancy risk, VERY low STD risk. But there is a such an emphasis on 'real' sex that this is over looked when if anything it should be encouraged. Unfortunately fundimentalist groups often brand any sexual activity as sinful, including masturbation and sometimes even THINKING about sex. This repression does a lot more harm than masturbation ever does.
