Hmm, what's the third common element?

Come again?
...why am i believing one thing and you another
Right... that is my point. surly God have us an objective measure...Hi.
You were asking:
If you're both led by the Holy Spirit, and you're both
reading the Word of God, yet you both interpret it differently,
what's the third common denominator?
Yourselves.
Benedicta,
Even the Apostles who walked with Jesus
believed erroneously sometimes
and had to be corrected.
IF there were such a thing as apostolic
succession, there would still be Apostles
who misunderstand things.
We cannot pin our hopes on men.
They are fallible, every single one of them.
Romans 3:4
4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar
Lord
Please help us to understand your word.
I pray you would open the eyes of
our understanding, that you would remove
anything that might hinder us from
truth.
In Jesus Christ's Name I pray, not mine.
AMEN.
Thank you Father!
A friend of mine who was in the process of converting to Catholicism told me the bible was on the list of books she wasn't to read. No wonder they don't know what the bible says.if you notice..OR at least the catholic church I went to...NO ONE, not ONE carried a Bible. NO one. HOW in the world would they know if they are being led astray? Why do they not carry Bibles..read it for themselves? God speaks new and fresh things every day...goodness..I don't get that. Is the only right way the way the Pope/priest reads it to them?? I don't get it.
It's not like that now (far as I know)A friend of mine who was in the process of converting to Catholicism told me the bible was on the list of books she wasn't to read. No wonder they don't know what the bible says.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to IamAdopted again.I read Gods word and allow Gods word to speak to me.. I don't go in to interpret the bible.. The Holy Spirit quickens His word to my Spirit.. If I have a question then I will pray and ask God for Wisdom for this. He is the Author of His book so He can give me the wisdom to see what He is saying to me.. My husband and I will search the scriptures. I can also call my Pastor and He can give me more scripture to read to help me understand what God is trying to say.. Scripture supports scripture..
But all we need to know and hear and see He did write..
we COULD say it... we'd be just as wrong as the RCC claiming it.Cool it with the false premises, CJ,
The Church does not claim to be perfect, just that her teachings are free from error. Too bad the rest of you can't say the same, huh CJ?
Never heard of this nut as you say..
darlin'...there was NOT ONE missle..sorry. SO I can read through the Bible a whole lot faster than 3 years in a Mass service. Read the Bible for yourself...might be enlightening. I am sorry I don't hold to erroneous teachings of fallable men. I won't take the priests word for Scripture either. Oh man...LOL, this is cute actually.. becuase the scriptures are in the missile.
When you went to Mass, you didn't realize that?
Every Mass has three readings from scripture and if you go to Mass daily for three years, you will have read the whole bible. 7 extra books and all.
are you joking? a list of not to read, and the BIBLE was on it??? OH My. I gave the people I used to be a Nanny for a Bible. Cause they were Catholic..and I cleaned their house for them..and found it odd they didn't have a Bible...so I got one for them for Christmas..and they looked at me SO odd...like I gave them something offensive. I was surprised. Now, my mom converted and has a couple catholic edition bibles...but I rarely see her read it either. AND yet, some will sit here and tell you they do...but if they did...they wouldn't.....oh forget it...I am shocked about what you say.A friend of mine who was in the process of converting to Catholicism told me the bible was on the list of books she wasn't to read. No wonder they don't know what the bible says.
The Orthodox will say nothing changed since he 3rd century and accuse the Catholic Church of changing but we have a different view and acknowledge the Holy Spirit didn't go comatose after the 3rd century.
...
The early Church taught Catholicism and sure the Orthodox will say they have remained closer to that and we will say the Church does not have to remain stagnant
But let's focus on the EO for a sec. They have just as much contempt for the Catholic Church as you do, but yet they do not reject the universal doctrines of Catholicism, ask your self why?
Benedicta00, you need to follow your own advice. What I have quoted above is a gross mischaracterisation of the Orthodox Church. When we say nothing has changed in Orthodoxy we speak of the faith once handed down by the Apostles. Orthodoxy is not stagnant. Holy Tradition is the life of the Holy Spirit in the Church and is ever growing with each new situation the Church has to deal with. We have no contempt for Catholicism, we simply do not accept its innovations which have separated it from the Orthodox faith.Cool it with the false premises, CJ
The priest giving her the lessons back in the mid '90s gave her a sheet of paper with a list of things she shouldn't read. The Holy Bible was on the list. Sorry folks.Um....... Whoever told your friend not to read the Bible was a bad Catholic, it happens you know, bad people give out bad info, one of those trea and fruit things.
Oh bull. The priest giving her the lessons back in the mid '90s gave her a sheet of paper with a list of things she shouldn't read. The Holy Bible was on the list. Sorry folks.
Melody, don't believe for a second that the Church tells ppl not to read the bible and has the bible is on a condemn list of reading.I wonder what other books were on there..
And for what reason would you believe this is even remotely true?are you joking? a list of not to read, and the BIBLE was on it??? OH My. I gave the people I used to be a Nanny for a Bible. Cause they were Catholic..and I cleaned their house for them..and found it odd they didn't have a Bible...so I got one for them for Christmas..and they looked at me SO odd...like I gave them something offensive.
