  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But if it's about Mary, I see that Mary is the Mother of Jesus, but not the Mother of the Father or the Holy Spirit .. so this doctrine kind of needs to be quarantined so Trinity can make sense. That is, unless the ancient church actually treats Mary as God .. but that's impossible.
So you want a polytheist Trinity,so you have to reinvent some ancient heresies to manage it.

The Father is God
The Son is God
The Holy Spirit is God

The Father is not the Son or the Holy Spirit
The Son is not the Father or the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is not the Father or the Son.

Since the Father and the Holy Spirit are not the Son, and Mary only gave birth to Jesus, the Theotokos doctrine falls apart.

Paganism worships a goddess, so pointing the finger with three fingers pointing back just is what it is.

If you said that Mary was the surrogate mother of GOD, that would be more in alignment with scripture since He was a child from The Holy Spirit.
Sorry mate, but that's simply gibberish.

And having responded, the angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most-High will overshadow you. For this reason also the Holy Child being born will be called God’s Son. (Luke 1:35)

Sorry to hear Luke 1:35 is not in your bible.

She was only a vessel to bring the Son into the world
As all our mothers are to us. And somehow they're still our mothers.
, hence a surrogate. She agreed to the childbirth from another.
Uh, no. Jesus is her son. Read the Scripture:

41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.” And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mark 3:31–35, see also Matthew 12:46–50; Luke 8:19–21)

Jesus clearly denied blood relations, and stated those who did the will of God are His family.

Deifying Mary is heresy.
So don't do it.
She was nothing more than a chosen vessel for the birth of GOD's Son
Not what Scripture says, is it? That just Protestant tradition.
but she had to agree to it before it could happen, hence a surrogate
surrogate /sûr′ə-gĭt, -gāt″, sŭr′-/

noun

  1. One that takes the place of another; a substitute.
Words actually mean things, you see.
. Sorry if the truth hurts
It appears you've successfully avoided that pain

Good job you're not an

Better read the Athanasian Creed. (I started to say read it again, but I reckon it would be your first go.)
Paganism worships a goddess
I'll have to take your word for that.

What i meant by that was, that Jesus did not get His divine nature from Mary.
I didn't get my brown hair from my mom, either, but she's still my mom.
The Holy Spirit came upon Mary giving Mary the Seed for which she would give birth to. This Seed was not from Mary The Seed was given to Mary from God The Holy Spirit.
Right. God, Father, Mary, Mother. We all have one of each.
She gave birth to a baby that was fully God and fully man.
Ergo, she's the Mother of God.
And Mary was still a virgin after Jesus' birth.
And thereafter unless she had sex with someone.
So not until after Jesus was born did Joseph and did not know her till she had brought forth her first born Son.
Doesn't say he did afterward, either, does it? That's Protestant Tradition talking.

It's not a required creed.

The deuteronomical curses represented by the councils resulted in a way of being opposite of the teachings of Jesus. So rejecting creeds or taking what's good and rejecting what's bad is okay too. It's not scripture, it's just teaching by people who thought it was better to curse than bless.

Where do women get their seed to give birth to their children. Do these seeds not come from God, they are not divine but still God is the originator of life.
Yes, in the sense that all created things come from God. But we still talk about Jesus having come "from the seed of David" (Rom. 1:3) even though David and his seed ultimately came from God.
If this was solely from Mary, why did the Holy Spirit come upon her.
Because the Virgin Birth was a miraculous event that would not have come about naturally without the Holy Spirit initiating the Incarnation. The Nicene Creed says the Son "by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary."

Her role was just a surrogate from the family of David the king through Nathan. She is truly blessed amongst women, but she is not deity.

And apparently ignorance is bliss.
I re-read the creed and remembered why it isn't essential.

Since the nature of the trinity is basically the nature of God, it is impossible for anyone to comprehend it until they are born again. So saying you will not be saved unless you believe this, but it cannot be understood until after one is born again by the Holy Spirit.

Do you imagine each Person of the Trinity as something like "one third" of God?
