Beth, that is terrible interpretation of Hosea!
First...the setting of Hosea 1:1 tells you a whole lot about what's going on at the time of his prophecy:
The word of the Lord which came to Hosea the son of Beeri, during the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.
The Lord is about to prophecy the captivity of Judah and Israel. Hosea will be God's mouthpiece. If you simply follow what Hosea says you can clearly see that this is the restoration of Judah and Israel to the land before the coming of Christ.
Do you not realize Hosea 6 speaks to the captivity of Israel by Assyria and the captivity of Judah by Babylon? It even tells you as much at Hosea 6:5:
5 Therefore I have hewn them in pieces by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of My mouth; And the judgments on you are like the light that goes forth.
Those "judgments" are their captivity Beth. God is speaking of Israel and Judah there. He then speaks of restoring them to the land in chapter 7.
I think you're forcing an interpretation onto Hosea 6:1-3, it's not what you're saying. It's definitely the coming of Christ...but it's His coming as their Messiah with the gospel...that is your "spring rain".
