  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A wise move to:
1) expend to year round products
2) reach out to the health conscious gentile market to increase market share and profit
3) provide more main stream kosher products in local stores for the kosher customer who may not have a kosher grocer within reach

I'm for it!

They do have year round products. I wouldn't say they are really "health" conscious unless you mean the absence of pork? If I need chicken broth I opt for something free range without added msg (and kosher of course). Now, if they go that route it would be terrific.

I understand that some Gentiles buy kosher because they do believe it
is healthier (if only they knew....LOL). Also some vegatarians or vegans because they can clearly tell whether or not there is meat/diary products in it, also Muslims often buy kosher.

One issue I can see is that kosher food is frequently much more expensive than traif. It might be hard for them to compete
with some products, such as chicken broth.

How do you mean?
Specifically, what I mean is that alot of the foods that are often processed in factories and other places can become easily corrupted due to bad standards of food storage/development. If you've ever seen the documentary entitled "Food Inc" or others similar to it, there's alot of undercover work dedicated to revealing alot of the ways that food has not been safe for others...and more was discussed here in #24 and #33

I agree, they use a lot of MSG which makes me very ill, especially in their chicken broth so I make my own.

I would love to see more Organic Kosher foods available.

Hi:wave:,

Manischewitz used to sell a Kosher Blackberry wine here in Canada; it was delicious. I have not seen it in years; is it still available... anywhere?:)
I just bought it in Winn Dixie over the holidays..

You know and I know the kosher does not = healthy. But a large portion of the gentile market thinks it is cleaner, especially the front page, infomercial types. Then there really is a growing population of gentiles trying to keep varying levels of kashrut.
It is simple marketing. If consumers want it provide it.
For real kosher keepers this move may mean an expanded list of kosher items will be easily available at their local market. :D

I don't know about that. There are literally tons of kosher versions of a great many items on supermarket shelves: ketchup, mustard, mayo, cereal, flour, soy milk, etc and they are very competitive, so much so that the average household has a great many items on their shelves they don't even know are kosher. So, it may not be that big an issue.

I know Alton Brown (Celebrity Chef Food & Cooking Networks/Good Eats & Iron Chef, in case folks don't know him) certainly does - it is his favorite seasoning ;)

Oh sure, but compare the price of a can of kosher chicken broth or other soup to the price of the treif stuff....there is definitely a difference.
