What is offensive? Anything that anyone finds offensive, which is literally everything. We don't need more stupid laws, we need less.

Hold on...searches diligently, hmm... Can't find anything in America that hold people to a high standard for shooting people in the face for annoying you.

I believe people who do that end up in prison. I would assume that being in prison isn't a high standard that everyone supports.

Not sure about shooting people in the face, but there are places here in America, like NY, where you can punch someone in the face (or back of the head) hard enough to put the person in the hospital in a medically induced coma, and end up right back on the street again even if a repeat offender.
"Offensive" speech is, of course, a whole 'nuther level.

Hopefully we can keep criminal penalties for abusive/demeaning/hateful/etc speech from spreading in the US the way it has in some other countries. Free speech is a fundamental part of American culture, and deciding what is offensive is just too subjective. Civil courts could have a role in some cases, but that could easily get out of hand.

I think there was an attempt by the current administration to regulate some speech but it got shutdown due to the backlash.
