Here we have the Lord on the cross dying [time when everything went dark]... and now dead before "even" or "evening".. sunset

they were never that anal retentive about sabbath laws.

sabbath laws never forbade doing necessary work on the sabbath.

they regarded this whole affair as a threat to their national security.
they would have done whatever was necessary.

It is not necesary to enter a discussion of what the jew were aloud to do in sabbath. The question is if Jesus was put in the sepulcre on sabbath before daybrake, or by dayend before sabbath started.

Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54 and John 19:42 are clear. Jesus was put in the sepulcer the the day before the sabbath.

pro-sabbath is obviously a greek translation of a hebrew word.

"fore" is a common part of many hebrew words and it can mean the "fore part of"

pro-sabbath would then mean the fore part of the sabbath.
presumably this would mean the night part of the sabbath since the hebrew day starts at sunset.

thats speculative.
I wouldnt bet one way or the other on it.
just tossing it out there as a possibility.
