LOTR says that this ring will destroy the world so thats liek tha anti-christ, and than wizards who openly practice witch craft go to destroy it. there are demons and creatures from hell and the heros are all possesed buy the ring(anti-christ) so if you don't like harry potter because of witchcraft this is worse guys.

dude, that is so wrong. first of all it's a story, nothing to do with actual life. second the ring doesn't possess the bearer, it tempts them. third, the wizard used magic, not witchcraft. Where did you get such bogus ideas. if you want to know what "our" religion is like, don't look at LOTR or CON or Harry Potter (Which uses witchcraft), look at the Bible:cool:

I think what Wizard-Boy was trying to point out was the hypocrisy of embracing "Lord of the Rings", which features protagonists who are wizards and use magic, while rejecting "Harry Potter," which has protagonists who are wizards who use magic. I think the whole "either book is evil because it features magic" argument is false, because the concept of magic in both works bears little to no resemblence to the occult. However, as a person earlier in this thread said, if you were going to accuse either work of promoting Satanism, it would be "Lord of the Rings", as the wizards in the story get their power from a higher source, while in "Harry Potter" magic is genetic. However, anyone who reads both works will realize that the whole idea of either work actually promoting Satanism is ridiculous.

Um...I just wanted to say that HP embraces the hole witch-craft thing..while LOTR is all about destroying the evil. I will never be involed with HP.. Sorry if I offended anyone.
Sorry to bring up the topic when everyone was having fun :(

FWIW, up until about a year ago, I was steering clear of Harry Potter. I wasn't totally convinced that it was as bad ( = demonic) as its critics made out, but OTOH I found it hard to believe that they were totally mistaken. So although I wasn't convinced enough to join them in criticising it, neither could I be bothered reading the thing for myself.

However, last year who met someone who's come out of a background in the occult himself, and is now a Christian. His testimony to me is that the magic in Harry Potter is, contrary to its critics' assertions, nothing to do with real world witchcraft. It is just fantasy magic. Just like LOTR and Narnia, really.

If you'd still rather avoid it then that's fair enough, but please, none of this "it embraces the whole witchcraft thing", because it doesn't. And also, Harry Potter is just as much about destroying evil as LOTR.

I think the christians chose what to belive they say harry potter is evil but star wars abd LOTR is not. Just like narnia thats full of witch craft but it is full of religious symbolizim i know what i'm saying i'm taking a radical standpoint that some people take to get what they want.

this makes sense

The spells and incantations in Harry Potter are far from real. They're gibberish words based off Latin. Real spells require rituals, and the magic in Harry Potter isn't ritualistic in the slightest. As for their being no incantantions in "Lord of the Rings" I would have to disagree with that:

"He [Gandalf] stepped on the rock again, and lightly touched with his staff the silver star in the middle beneath the sign of the anvil.

Annon edhellen, edro hi ammen!
Fennas nogothrim, lasto beth lammen!

he said in a commanding voice. The silver lines faded, but the blank grey stone did not stir.

Many times he repeated these words in different order, or varied them. Then he tried other spells, one after another, speaking now faster and louder, now soft and slow."
-- "The Lord of the Rings" by JRR Tolkien
Pg. 337, Houghton Mifflin Edition

How are the spells Gandalf is saying not incantations? Obviously, the aren't real, and don't work, but neither do the spells in Harry Potter.

The fact that people would debate something like this perplexes me... I could explain to you the nature of the occult, but I honestly don't want to dwell on those things. HP and LOTR and Narnia (all of them) are in no way anything like the occult. They're literature. Sheesh. Read Peter Carroll or Crowley if you want to criticize something for being evil.

Did ya'll know the lady who writes the HP books is a witch and puts real spells in them?Any ways, So what if I'm a loser and I do NOT wish to talk about this any more.
Sorry if I offended anyone.
This is my last post on this thread, then I am thoroughly ignoring it's existance.

Read this book and compare it to anything you read from J.K. Rowlings. HP is so far away from true occultic writings it's nearly absurd.

I'm pretty certain she's not a witch - I'd be very interested to know who exactly has told you that she is.

Nobody's called you a loser, and as far as I'm aware you've not offended anyone, certainly not me. But on this issue, there seems to be a lot of rubbish talked by (I hope) well-meaning Christians. If you're falling for the rubbish, I for one would far rather you heard the truth.

HTH.

ok the difference in magic between Harry Potter and LOTR is that Harry Potter's magic is based off of real occult chants and incantations.

Where the heck do you get that idea from?

LOTR doesn't have a single incantation in it.

Um...yeah, it does.
