and now 2 weeks until the next episode!!! Why do I start watching these things...? They just torture me! What do you guys think the voices are?

I know what you mean. When I saw two weeks I almost voiced my disappointment audiably.

The voices are clearly part of the "magic" of the island. Despite Danielle's denial, something was knocking down trees, killed the pilot and had some sort of moment with Locke. I have never watched a J.J. Abrams show before, but I am so glad I listened to the critics buzz and got hooked on this show.

Speaking of the magic of this show, the revelation that Alex was Danielle's son was a wonderful brain slap, not up to Sun speaking English or Locke being a parapalegic, but I didn't see it coming. The whole episode was heavy with both detail and innuendo, so the Alex thing didn't resonate the whole episode, but the revelation was very Wow! inducing.

Sayid's remains the most compelling character on the show. Sawyer's back story, while dramatic doesn't mitigate the fact that he's been a jerk from the beginning. I love Locke, but he's transcended complexity into a man given not just a new lease on life, but a new life.

And like the rest of you who have commented, I liked the golf interlude. I fear that Hurley's backstory might not be interesting, but he's certainly a welcome addition to the cast. Ooooo, and did Danielle's references to the "disease" and Ethan (or whatever his name is) complaining about his rash have any connection?

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

Oh, I was moaning with grief over the 2 week wait...!

I totally agree about Sayid...I love him!

When Danielle was talking about the 'sickness' or whatever, I thought she was talking about some sort of mental sickness. I didn't connect the rash thing with the disease, but that might be connected. Then again, who knows with this show...

I know... the - as Dr. Frankenfurter said in Rocky Horror Picture Show - Antici.... pation, is delicious. The reason I connected Ethan's rash with "the disease" was that Danielle's madness was either a given, or something she's somehow managed to stave off for 16 years.

I checked a reality TV site that I read/post to, and there were some comments about the actress who played Danielle. I wasn't a Babylon 5 watcher so I hadn't seen her before. But then again Terry O'Quinn and Matthew Fox didn't carry any previous reference for me since I hadn't watched Alias or Party of Five. Dominic Monaghan is sufficiently cast away from Merry that his accent is the only thing that elicits a prejudice on my part.

Remember Locke when he said "I have seen the eye of the island." This when he looked the giant beast right in the eye and survived. Everything seems to have its own purpose under the sun yet there seems to be a "force" behind the island bringing things to pass. How you handle your past seems to mark whether you survive or not.

I guess I was basking in my noticing that "John Locke" was a philosopher so much that I missed entirely that Danielle's last name was Rousseau... as in Jean Jaques Rousseau - the French philosopher.

Clue? I dunno yet, but TV guide says that Claire's episode is good - gee, not surprising to those of us who have watched the entire series.

Sayid is also my favorite character, although I have to admit that anything that features Naveen Andrews, Im pretty much hooked to.
I wasnt surprised that Sun could speak English, I always felt she could, but I was certainly surprised by Locke. I love surprises, especially when they are believeable. Locke's wasnt believeable at all (wouldnt you need to learn to walk all over again having been confined to a wheelchair for a while? Im pretty certain you couldnt just get up and be off on your merry way.) but it's lost so I throw believeablity and reality out the window, and enjoy the show.
I can't wait until they tell Jack's whole story though. I think there is more to it.
I also have one friend who swears that everyone is actually dead, and that is what will come out in the end. I would bite, but I have no idea how they could/would actually "do" that.

Jin sighting! I was watching CSI on Spike last night and Daniel Dae Kim was on as a Secret Service Agent. I'd never seen him in anything previously so it was strange for a moment hearing him speaking in unaccented English.

...o.k. It's not that bad, but I had a bad feeling when I turned my VCR on. I rewound for a few minutes and saw some blonde singing. "Hey, Claire is blonde... perhaps it's just her back story." I rewound for another 30 minutes or so and hit play. "Oh man, there's blonde Claire again... she sure is getting a lot of flashback time."

I realized as my counter wound down to zero that I messed up setting my VCR. Instead of recording Lost from 7pm-8pm, I recorded Nick and Jessica's variety special. I was despondant. I was suicidal. One of my idiot neighbors was playing the radio too loud in his car as his bass made another car beep and tweet as the alarm system reacted to the sound. I wanted to scream.

Oh well. I made it nine epsiodes without making a programming error like that (which I usually do 2 or 3 times a year) so I can't beat myself up too bad. If any of you watched, or better yet recorded the show and can give a comprehensive review/recap of the show (apart from the last 4 minutes that I did catch), I'd really appreciate it.

Oh man, I really feel bad for you. I'm so sorry. This episode was so good it has to be one of the best two or three so far! My roommate and I were both screaming at the end of it!

I don't really have time at the moment to do a giant recap, but the 'official' Lost site at ABC does really good recaps of all the episodes. Just go to google and search for 'ABC Lost' and go to the first page that comes up. The summaries are on their somewhere.

P.S.
They might show it again on Saturday sometime....check your TV listings.

This just took on a whole new twist!

There are too many new questions floating around in my brain to make any cohesive attempts at explanation. Why did the psychic send Claire & baby on a plane he knew would crash? So Ethan wasn't on the plane, where did he come from and why does he want Claire & her baby? He must have been the one trying to inject Claire - why? Does he know something about the baby? Does he want to kill the baby, or steal it? Is he part of the previous group that came with the French woman? Is he her son (with a different name), and if so, who raised him?

This is so much fun!

I was wondering the same thing about the psychic...why did he send them on the plane? Really and truly the questions get better and better each week. I think Alex is the Ethan person, but why would he want the baby? Cant wait until next week!
Never did figure out what/who those voices were!

Here's the official summary from ABC's Lost site:

WARNING!!! SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR ANYONE WHO DID NOT SEE THE EPISODE THAT AIRED ON DEC. 1!!!!

""Raised by Another"
Claire wakes to the sound of a baby crying, opens her eyes and looks down to find that she's no longer pregnant. She follows the cries to find Locke, sitting at a desk in the middle of the jungle. He relays a cryptic message to Claire—"He was your responsibility, but you gave him away. Everyone pays the price now." Then he looks up and Claire sees that one eye is light, the other dark. She runs away and stumbles upon a baby's crib, above which hangs a mobile with miniature Oceanic planes spinning in a circle. Claire reaches down to pick up the crying baby—but the crib is empty. She peels back the white blankets to discover her hands are covered in blood. Claire screams. A hand falls on her shoulder—she turns and wakes again to find Charlie, who tells her that she's having a nightmare. But his concern grows when he sees blood on her hands…

Charlie brings Claire to see Jack, who explains that she was sleepwalking and that the blood was a result of digging her fingernails into her palms. He questions her about her pregnancy—specifically about the date when she found out she was pregnant—which leads to—

A FLASHBACK—of Claire with her boyfriend Thomas. Both are panicked over the positive results of an EPT test. Claire is hesitant to accept the truth. But Thomas tells her that he loves her and convinces her that it could be a good thing for them to raise this baby together.

Back on the island, Charlie brings Claire some tea and offers to be her friend. But Claire is clearly hesitant again, unwilling to get close to him. Meanwhile, Kate tells Jack she is worried about Sayid, who has been gone for days.

Another FLASHBACK reveals Claire with a friend on a visit to see a psychic. The psychic seems legitimate when he asks Claire about her pregnancy. However, he refuses to go on with the reading when he sees something blurry in her future. With a look of panic on his face, he asks Claire to leave.

Back at the caves, Claire is sound asleep when someone sneaks up and covers her mouth. Charlie and Jack wake to her screams again and rush to her side. Though she appears to be alone, she claims that someone was trying to hurt her baby and stabbed her with some sort of needle. Charlie and Hurley immediately set out on the hunt while Jack tries to calm Claire. Hurley suggests they start to canvass, or at the very least, compile a list of names of each survivor on the island. In the meantime, Charlie volunteers to stay with Claire and look out for her.

Another FLASHBACK shows Claire and Thomas in the process of fixing up their apartment for the baby. But something is clearly wrong with Thomas, who's beginning to get cold feet and fears the responsibility of a baby. He goes as far as to suggest that Claire trapped him and walks out on her.

Back at the beach, Jack and Charlie talk to Kate. Jack expresses doubt that something actually happened to Claire -she was sleepwalking and woke up two nights in a row, screaming—her symptoms are textbook anxiety. Why would someone try to hurt her baby anyway? Jack is concerned that her stress level could trigger an early labor. He goes to Claire and offers her a sedative, suggesting that she may have been imagining things due to all the anxiety, to which Claire takes offense and packs up for the beach.

Hurley continues his census with a guy named Ethan Rom, while Claire walks toward the beach. We FLASHBACK to Claire re-visiting the psychic, offering him more money and requesting that he continue her reading -she needs to know the future now that Thomas is gone because she intends on giving up the baby for adoption. But the psychic tells her that it's crucial she raise this child herself, warning her that great danger will befall her if she gives it up. Claire runs out. But the psychic is persistent and calls her on the phone. He begins to offer an alternative solution, but Claire hangs up before he can finish.

On the island, Hurley gets registry info from Shannon & Boone. Boone suggests it might be easier if Hurley got the plane manifest from Sawyer. Hurley goes to Sawyer and doesn't even bother negotiating -he just comes out and asks. And, surprisingly, Sawyer gives it up.

Meanwhile, Charlie catches up with Claire on her way to the beach. Claire claims that the only reason Charlie wants to help her is because of his need to rescue the pregnant girl. As she tells him she doesn't need rescuing, she has a contraction. Charlie reluctantly runs to get Jack as we go into—

A FLASHBACK—to a lawyer's office, where Claire is about to sign papers giving up rights to her baby. But her pen runs out of ink and she can't bring herself to do it. She leaves and revisits the psychic, ready to take him up on his offer.

Charlie runs into Ethan and sends him to get Jack while he returns to Claire, whose contractions have stopped. Claire tells Charlie about the psychic as we—

FLASHBACK to the events she retells, where the psychic offers her money and a plane ticket to Los Angeles to meet a couple with whom the baby will be safe. But the tickets are for an Oceanic flight—and Charlie deduces that the psychic may have known about the plane crash all along and was consciously sending her and her baby to their death.

Meanwhile, Sayid returns to the camp with news of the French Woman, (a callback to the very first episode, when the survivors heard the French Transmission) announcing that they're not alone on the island. Hurley confirms this information with news that one of the survivors names wasn't on the manifest. And while returning to the caves, Claire and Charlie run into that survivor—Ethan Rom. Off of their terrified expressions, we cut to black."

Did he actually say the Psychic wanted to send them to death?
(HAve to be careful about what is said. It could make a difference)
Or did he know which people would survive and where?
Could the psychic have placed someone on the plane?(Ethan?)
If the psychic was real he would have known that she would survive.
Alot of questions as always.

I thought the Psychic sent her on the plane knowing she would survive, but he also knew that she would then have to raise the baby herself which is what he wanted. I don't think the Psychic knew about Ethan because he wasn't on the plane. Psychics don't always know everything, right?
