I just wrote a 6 page long whatever only to have it disappear when I posted it, so I'll put it in a nutshell.

I just got back from Iraq, I was an atheist up until I started to question the big bang, I found I cant make my mind accept that nothing exploded and created everything, so I'm not really sure where that puts me, and now I'm here.
I'm sorry to be so vague but I pretty much poured everything I had into my last post, and it vanished.
So..:help:

God bless, TiredSoldier. Thanks for posting, and thanks for your service.

Scripture and current science agree that there was a beginning to the universe. Our faith teaches us that it was caused by God, who is eternal.

Are you familiar with Dr. Hugh Ross's Reasons To Believe?

Hello TiredSoldier,

Welcome to this forum.

Yeah, I don't understand why people would accept 0 + 0 = 1 and then 1 + a lot of time = everything...it is much understandable that there is source of all things that gives all things a purpose and hold all things together in driving purpose.

TiredSoldier,

First, let me say thank you for what you have done, not only for your country, but for me and my family. I appreciate your sacrifice.
Second, let me encourage you to read a book by C.S.Lewis (the Chronicles of Narnia guy) called Mere Christianity, there are lots of good science based books out there that argue the validity of the Bible, but, as you posted, you are not really into science.
Mere Christianity is not a science book, it is the conclusions that C.S.Lewis (who was also an atheist) came to as he set about to disprove the Bible. All of his arguments are based on reason and logic, I think it would be a very helpful read for you.

Thank you again and God bless you.

Greetings TS,
Sorry to hear of the vanished work.
.
My thoughts are that speculations as to the origins of the universe have little value in determining the existence of God. I'm totally unconvinced that we should expect the answers to these questions to even make sense.
.
I've done a little reading of popular physics books. And it becomes clear that at the borders of physical reality (the oldest, the hottest, the smallest, etc) matter behaves in ways that dont always conform to our ideas of logic. So, I wouldnt be surprised if the origins of the universe defied conventional logic too.
.
Consequently, I think God is more a question for the heart, with the mind as a safety check so you dont believe any old dangerous nonsense.
.
I hope you get some good rest.

Dear TiredSoldier. If you are really looking for help, may Y suggest you start by getting a Bible, which is God`s Word to Man. Read the 4 Gospels, find a church where the Message of Jesus is taught at lenght, and where Love seems to rule. When you feel that you know God well enough to ask a question, do so in prayer and wait for God`s answer. God promised to answer all who ask, and want an answer. God will know your heart, TiredSoldier, and give you the answer you need to know. I say this humbly and with love, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

Heya Tiredsoldier,

I wanted to post a reply earlier, but work was rather hectic heh. :) Basically I have a small concern which is that you are looking for a view of origins, and yes, whilst Christianity certainly addresses that, it also comes with a great deal more, and a great deal more important things too.

I think I am correct in saying there are two main origin theories within Christianity. 1) God created everything as literally described in Genesis. 2) God created everything as metaphorically described in Genesis and used Evolution as a tool of His creative power in order to create us, man.

There are sub-divisions of these I believe, but either way I don't see that as a good reason to convert to Christian faith, as much as I would love you to. :) I think it's a great place to start, because I came to faith the same way. I wanted answers and after researching a few theories on things, Christianity stood out as A) The most unique of all and B) The most believable, if you can believe that. ;)

My advice is not to be rash, in your decision and to think carefully about what you want from life, as really that is what Christianity offers and is about. Salvation from sin, and life eternal.

Cheers!

Dear Tired Soldier,

welcome home and God bless you for the good work that you did your best to do.

You are of course looking for a lot more than an explanation of the Big Bang. OK, let's assume that the Big Bang did have a Cause. Right, then, what next?

Are you interested in that Cause, or does all the garbage you have heard about It(Him) put you off? Or, having seen what you must have seen in Iraq, are you deeply, totally furious with Whatever It(He) is and does (or fails to do)?

Fire away! Or follow sageoffools's advice and find yourself a copy of "Mere Christianity" (it also comes in a shortened version, "What Christians believe"). One of the best little books ever written, and you won't find any "the Bible says so" arguments in it. Only the best of crystal-clean humanity and good sense.

My first response is to thank you for your service.

As far as where you are, a good place - open minded. May God's Spirit fill you.
