Linda Ronstadt

Hey all,

I came across an article/interview with Linda Ronstadt from last week. I really love her music and have enjoyed her for years. But this quote upset me:

"It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

She's being honest, but does she realize how bigoted that sounds? Here is the link to the entire article so no one can say I'm misquoting.

Then last night I heard she was thrown out of her own concert at The Aladdin in Vegas for touting Michael Moore as a great hero and patriot.

Any thoughts?

I think she needs a lot of prayer and a faithful witness.

Father, open the eyes of the blind. But for your grace there go I.

This is sad news about Linda Ronstadt. Someone gave me her music video "Canciones de Mi Padre" (songs of my father), a beautiful tribute to her own father with Mexican music and dance. I love the way she sings and enjoyed her video performance. It's so hard to believe she would say such things if she knows how much it upsets her audience. What she said in this article will "cloud my enjoyment" of her music as well.

I was disturbed by that article as well! I find it so offensive to be at a concert or whatever, and the performer starts in on his political beliefs, in such a way that it implies "of course you all agree with me" or at least "you're a total loser if you disagree with my authoritative opinion on this." How narrow-minded can a performer be, to think that everyone in an audience is going to believe the same??

Well, if Linda R is so offended by republicans and Christians in the audience, she can rest assured I won't be buying any tickets.

I totally agree. It reminds me of when someone tells an off-color or racist joke, as if everyone will think it's funny.

No matter how big a fan I am of someone, I couldn't care less what they believe politically. Just shows you how big their ego is.

Father, forgive my judgment...

Towards the end of the concert, she dedicated a song to Micheal Moore. This got her booed. Then the management of the casino decided they didn't want her to stay there (even though it was part of her contract).

I may not agree with her politics or her forum, but as an American, I'm proud she exercised her right to free speech. That is what our military is fighting and dying for, to protect our freedoms.
