My room has lights in the ceiling. When your firmament is firm, that's how it is.

The image accurately portrays the common cosmology of ancient near eastern cultures, including that of the OT. Obviously, it does not accurately portray reality.

In my room, the lights hang down from the ceiling and have various heights to the ceiling. It is a more beautiful type of lights. The image is contemporary and is modified to fit the updated knowledge. But the description is always true. That is how wonderful the Bible is.

Babylonian Cosmogony.

Strikingly similar to the Biblical cosmogony is that of the Babylonians (Friedrich Delitzsch, "Babylonischer Weltschöpfungsepos"; Jensen, "Kosmologie der Babylonier," pp. 263-364; Zimmern, in Gunkel, "Schöpfung und Chaos," pp. 401 et seq.; Schrader, "K. B." vi.). Its birthplace is betrayed by its reflection of the climatic conditions of Babylonia. In winter, floods and darkness prevail. With the advent of spring the waters "divide" and are "subjugated" through the power of the winds that blow. Applying to primeval days this yearly phenomenon of the conquest of the flood and darkness, the Babylonian fancy assumes as self-existent in the beginning the great expanse of water (and unlit darkness).

It has no substance. They rejected Jesus. So it is pagan/ heathen/ non-helpful.

The important part was "Strikingly similar to the Biblical cosmogony".

The Bible and Babylon had similar ideas about the structure of the heavens. Which is not in the least surprising.

Doesn't seem all that firm to me... How's it supposed to keep the waters out?

Some don't know that IF water is above and below a firmament/solid object, that object is totally surrounded by water. You are correct in your view of the old story of the "floating" firmament, which is obviously a misunderstanding.

That would mean that at the edge of the firmament is nothing but massive amounts of water...

And since the firmament is now known as "outer space," that's a lot of water...

How solid is the air? Is it solid enough to burn moving rock? Can we say the air is very firm?

Yes. Every time you see a meteor you are seeing a fast-moving rock burning up in the upper atmosphere. It is rather a complex process, involving deceleration of the meteoroid and compression and heating of the atmosphere. The meteoroid breaks up when the pressure of the atmosphere exceeds the strength of the meteoroid.

Oh look, a failure to answer a simple question which would have shown you to be in error. Colour me surprised.

I am a creationist. But it seems that it is YOU, who should learn more science.

So, the air, as a part of the firmament, could be quite firm.
