Let's have fun with stereotypes.

We all know about stereotypes. It can get ugly. That's why I want to counteract it with some light-heartedness.

What stereotypes do you fit? What stereotypes are expected of you, but you don't fit?

Here are mine.

Stereotypes I fit:

• I am a grandmother who knits, bakes cookies, and has cats.
• I am intelligent with a large vocabulary and weak social skills. (Bonus, I wear glasses, too.)
• I am female and unable to drive a car.
• I am female and definitely a chocolate addict.

Stereotypes that don't apply at all:

• I am a woman who does not enjoy watching The View, "chick flicks," or soap operas.
• My husband couldn't care less about sports.
• I am left-handed but have excellent penmanship, and I'm not all that clumsy.
• In fact, my right-handed husband is far clumsier.
• I am overweight but not into Big Macs or twinkies.

Stereotypes I fit

I boo-hoo when my kids aren't around (like now)
I go "awwwwww" over baby photos, kittens and puppies
I don't feel dressed without earrings and perfume (bearing in mind that I'm also wearing clothes!)
I don't concentrate all the time, in fact I can be *very* flighty
Speaking of boo-hooing, I can cry at the drop of a hat - like watching those videos of military parents surprising their kids, oh my gosh, I am just a mess

Stereotypes that don't apply:

Don't try to out-race me or get past me on the road. I will cut you off and make you sorry
Just because I'm English doesn't mean I'm related to the royal family. Really. And no I don't want to talk about them either.
Also, I don't own one single dress.

Stereotypes that I fit:

I like war and horror movies,and mostly avoid sentimental ones unless they are about animals.

I like to fix stuff around the house.

I like to watch football.

I find fascination with baby pictures mildly irritating.

Romantic movies bore me.

Stereotypes that don't fit:

I like to cook and do it very well. I'd rather cook than go out to eat.

I like planting flowers outside.

I like to go to church, do devotions, worship.

I am a software developer / programmer, and do in fact wear glasses.

Stereotypes that don't fit:

I couldn't care less for sports of any kind.

I prefer chick flicks to horror / war movies

I don't mind changing baby's diaper.

I'm from California and I say 'dude' all the time
I'm living in the south but i refuse to ever say y'all because of where I'm from
I'm an air traffic controller and i love coffee
I'm Armenian and I'm hairy
I'm a car nut and a sports nut
I' m in the military and I'm married with a kid

Stereotypes I do not fit:

I have never been deployed or killed anyone
I am a young Christian and i don't like uber-contemporary churches
I'm mostly liberal
I didnt get married or have kids between ages 18-21
I don't iron and starch my jeans, t shirts or underwear
I don't tear up at the sound of the national anthem

I do not like guns and other weapons

Sterotypes I don't fit:

I know how to shoot a gun (even though I don't like them)
I know exactly where to thrust a knife into someone in order to kill them (that sounds awful, but it's part of my defense training from my husband)
I am not a stay at home mom and
I am a lousy house keeper

- I'm in my element when I am playing the part of Suzy Homemaker
- I love all things arts/crafts related (even though I'm not as good at them as I wish I was).
- I love to bake and cook (and I'm very good at both)
- I'm a fixer/rescuer (although I am reformed and don't try to fix/rescue as much as I used to)

Stereotypes I don't fit:

- I am not prissy or afraid to get sweaty/dirty.
- I am not a minivan-driving soccermom.
- I like war or suspense movies (not horror, though).

Do fit:

• I am a woman who is afraid of snakes and spiders.
• I enjoy wearing makeup and jewelry, and I keep my hair long.
• I grew up in Kentucky, don't like to wear shoes, and have lived in a house that had no indoor plumbing.

Don't fit:

• I am a woman who is not afraid of mice.
• I am a mother who has never once wished my children were still babies.
• I grew up in Kentucky but I have never met anyone who owns a moonshine still, nor does anyone in my acquaintance work in a coal mine.

And on keeping my hair long, well it's feminine and all that (and Biblical, according to a lot of conservative Christians) but then, another stereotype is that long hair only looks good on younger women. I'm in my high 40's, so I'm supposed to have one of those layered, teased, sprayed stiff, helmet-head styles like Judge Judy has.

I actually like other women. There is nothing better than a close friend.

Ha! I have some in common ....

I fit...

Im from the south born in Alabama..I say ya'll...I LOVE to go barefoot(I even will run errands barefoot if I dont have to get out of the car) and I love watermelon and iced tea..as well I love tomato sandwiches..I have a grandmotehr who until recently had a garden all my life ..that produced many hundreds of tomatos each summer in Alabama...

As a "girl" I love sundresses..If I had one thing only I could wear again..it would be a loose sheer sundress again with bare feet...

On the other hand..I have a "shoe fettish" that contradicts my comfort with bare feet..I like to have a LARGE collection of shoes ..because well..you cant always go barefoot..and I just think shoes are the prettiest thing...so I have about 30 pairs..some I havent worn in 15 years..but I still like to "look at them"..

I love to cook southern things..like chicken fried steak in tomato gravy..and chicken and dumplings..fried breakfast chops..liver and onions..and I like to eat pork skins..

Im addicted to chocolate..I in fact eat it almost everyday...

I love to fish...and I have no issues splitting an earthworm into pieces with my thumbnail..maybe a little 'guilt" but it doesnt gross me out..(thats another southern "trait" I think)

I played with frogs and lizards growing up in the south as well...

I like tight jeans with high heels...

I like to try and keep fresh cut flowers in the house..or some sort of plant that is blooming..

The minute I turned 40 I needed "reading glasses" and started growing gray hair...

I use "anti wrinkle cream" by the gallon..

I keep and always have my entire life..my toe nails painted bright red...

My libido stared (just like they say) going through the roof mid to late 30's..

I dont fit ??

Im not "afraid" of spiders in fact I "respect them" in a sense that if they dont bother me I dont bother them..I did remove one from the house yesterday..well because it was bothering me..Im not "afraid" of snakes..again ..if they dont bother me..which basically means unless its in a "cage" and I know its not venomous?Just stay out of my sight O,K?

Im a grandmother ...but I do not look like one..I also never "transformed" to short hair (my MIL is DYING for me to get a helmet head..NO)...I have remained a size 2 to 4 petite..

I dont cry a lot..it has to be pretty bad..like recently when my cat Apple died(she just died last week)

I think "most' chick flicks are boring stupid and so predictable I would just rather not waste my time..I would rather if I had to make up a story in my head for an hour and 15 mintues while staring at a blank wall..

Im a rather yo/yo mix of liberal/conservative..Im traditional and modern depending...

Im a female who can and will(if I allow myself) drink a 12 pack+ of beer in one sitting..I can in fact outdrink most 6ft tall 200lb men..when it comes to beer I have a 'high metabilism"..

I would BY FAR no competition ..rather read a true crime novel about a serial killer ..than a romance novel..

I LOVE boxing..it intrigues me..and gets my animal instincts reved up...

I love rap music..

My idea of a romantic man? Is BROAD...example I saw my husband "romantically" when he tried to convince me to keep a baby duckling we rescued recently..Im the one that had to talk some sense into him..but I appreciated the 'kid in him"..flowers and a "romantic" dinner dont hold a candle to that..those are nice..but "contrived' in comparison.I like the real stuff...

I better stop...LOL!!!

I was born in Texas, and I say "y'all" and "sir" and "ma'am"
I love sweet tea, fried okra, biscuits and gravy
Baking is one of my favorite hobbies.
I'm interested in cute clothes.
I am much better at language arts, social studies a,nd psychology than math and science.
I sometimes get sucked into reality shows (like The Bachelorette or Say Yes to the Dress)
I'm a lightweght.

Stereotypes I don't fit:
I LOVE FOOTBALL! I play fantasy football, try to watch as many games as I can, and generally understand the basics of the game (and want to learn more and more and more).
I love sports in general.
I lurve fishing.
I got married young and, no, it wasn't because I was pregnant.
Chick flicks are ICKY!!!!

Well, I guess the one that fit me most was a Magnavox with a turntable with 33 and 45 rpm speeds and two tape decks. Obviously this was quite some time ago.

I love some of these responses. I had no idea some of these things were there... like waxlion, I had no idea you were from Texas.

I fit:
I am from the midwest and like cheese.
I am a musician and am most certainly awkward in social situations.
I'm left handed and am a musician.
as a woman,
I am the housekeeper and helper of my husband.
I like to look cute (make up, clothes, and other stuff included)
I call my mom all the time.
I have a week where I'm not as pleasant to get along with :S

I don't fit:
I don't care for baby pictures or baby stories. Might change when I have my own, and I'm glad they are around, but I like kids who can carry on a conversation much better.
I love dogs AND cats (not exclusive)
I'm a musician but I don't act as though I'm the only one in the world.
I run but I don't constantly talk about it.
I can drive very well and have since I was 9 (farm).
I know how to take apart an engine.
