  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let's Discuss Creationism

Aren't the ten commandments the main moral laws to follow?

Nope.

As moral laws, most of them are rubbish.

I am the LORD thy God - Not a moral law 0/1
Thou shalt have no other gods - Not a moral law 0/2
No graven images or likenesses - Not a moral law 0/3
Not take the LORD's name in vain - Not a moral law 0/4
Remember the sabbath day - Not a moral law 0/5
Honour thy father and thy mother - Finally. Something useful. But, it mostly depends if they honour me as well. Morality between people is a two way street. .5/6
Thou shalt not kill - I can get behind this, although there are circumstances where its not applicable (self defence, war) 1.5/7
Thou shalt not commit adultery - I'm fine with this. You make a commitment to faithfulness, you should follow through 2.5/8
Thou shalt not steal - Ok by me. I don't want my stuff stolen. 3.5/9
Thou shalt not bear false witness - Fine. Lying is generally bad, although again, there are exceptions. If I had to tell a lie to save a life, you better believe that I would. 4.5/10
Thou shalt not covet - Nothing wrong with covetousness. Its aspirational. It makes us want things and work hard to get them. 4.5/11

Not even a passing grade.

The laws in Judiasm, of which the accusers were using to accuse the woman of adultery. Your personal opinion of them has no bearing on what Jesus may have written with his finger. Please follow along.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And just six days later:

Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

Six days? You must read slow...

Is it your opinion that Jesus wrote the 10 commandments in the dirt?

To bad they didn't have Facebook, twitter or the Paparazzi back then..there would have been a record of what He scrawled in the dirt..however,they didn't..all folks can do is speculate..and speculation is not proof of what He "wrote".

I still don't get it. The 10 commandments clearly prohibit adultery. If He wrote them...so what?

If Jesus wrote "Thou shalt not kill" it has no bearing on this because the death penalty was required in the same way it was required for the man who built a fire on the Sabbath.
Otherwise you have a contradiction between the law and the written penalty for violating that law.

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

Interpreted as:

Matthew 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

QV also:

Ecclesiastes 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

Killing a person as a required punishment for a crime is not murder. The time to kill was then because she had violated a commandment that required capital punishment.

I still don't understand why you think Jesus wrote the 10 commandments in the dirt or why that would have influenced the others to drop their stones and walk away.

Joe, Tom, Bob and Fred all work at Circuits World Electronics.

Joe shoplifts a calculator.

Tom shoplifts a Zebra F-301 set of ink pens.

Bob shoplifts a 16-pack of AAA batteries.

Fred attempts to shoplift an Android and gets caught.

Joe, Tom, and Bob call for Fred's termination.

Mr. Circuits, the proprietor, goes to a chalkboard and writes:

Calculator -- Zebra F-301 -- AAA batteries
Would you persist in Fred's termination?

So Christians shouldn't punish any violation of God's commandments?

Most "sins" that people commit are so general as to not be descriptive of those people. Unless they had done truly deviant bad things, there wouldn't be anything impressive for Jesus to write about them.

The name of their partner and the date of their liaison would certainly give a potential stoner . . . something to think about.

Probably to kill Jesus faster, least he reveal your crimes. Honestly.

So you have no clue as to what Jesus wrote or drew in the dirt.

Assuming, of course, the stoner is, indeed, an adulterer.

And if he is, why all the secrecy? The Bible has never been squeamish about sexual misadventures...
