Well, This is an interesting theological point that the Pope brings up and has really got me thinking as I quite often do recite the king James version of the lords prayer to myself. This was the way we said it at school.
After mulling it over. I think it shows a lack of understanding of King James old english (perhaps even english) by the Pope.

Because not is the inverse, for example go not = stay,

Lead us not into: not into = out
So in plainer english it is actaully saying: lead us out of temptation, deliver us from the evil one.

so it's not actaully saying that there is a possibility of God leading us to temptation just because lead is in the sentence.

But those 5 words do say alot. We are going to have temptations but we need to seek God earnestly to lead (guide) us out of them.
