  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yes, it certainly does. The Spirit has spoken audibly to a number in our church - including those who have turned their back and left. One fellow I recall said while he was invistigating and attending a meeting he heard a voice tell him "it is true." Yet, he too later succumbed to all the rhetoric against the LDS church on the internet, and left due to hardships and the doubts he began to have. The second in your list above is probably the most common story of young men who have left the church. There are lots of "I"s in their stories. I wanted to do this, and I wanted that, but my family didn't let me....
poor little boy.... He finally got what HE wanted.. an Asian wife. What a way to pick a wife. I hope she doesn't know.

Facts trumped a subjective voice? Wow, Mormonism didn't stand a chance. Maybe the WOW needs to add an internet ban.

Taking a part of the full context of my post like you consistently do I believe is reflective of your posting attitude.
Everything the Spirit does is subjective. To have such a witness and yet turn your back is spiritually dangerous to one's soul. It is like slapping the Spirit in the face - I pity him.

Some spirits need slapped...

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Eph. 6:12)

What would you do if the Spirit told you to sacrifice your son?

What would you do if the Spirit told you to sacrifice your son?

We know why God asked that of Abraham. It was a one time command. Because the Holy Spirit is the One leading us, we also know that it won't be asked of us. Christ became our sacrifice once and for all. Some of us may be called to give our own lives for Christ. Paul faced that possibility this way:

6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7(For we walk by faith, not by sight: ) 8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
2 Corinthians 5

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Hebrews 13:15

And what is that called? That is not sacrifice?
John 21:18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
John 21:19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

I would say Paul was more poignant:
2Tim 4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
2Tim 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2Tim 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Hebrews 13:15

See Hebrews 13:16 below.
See also Hebrews 5:
Heb 5:1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Heb 5:2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Rev, what if God whispered in my ear for me to sacrifice you on an altar? AND my bosom was burning?

I'd take a Rolaids and say, "No way."
Beside, I enjoy discussing things with him.

If others are believers why do they need to become Mormons? If they have faith in Christ, why is the Gift of the Holy Ghost reserved for LDS?

The Gift of the Holy Ghost is given as part of the covenant that is made upon formally accepting the Gospel of Christ. Not everyone who has faith in Christ will take that next step. The Bible does not teach that we should merely believe, but that we should use that belief as a starting point in our spiritual journey in life. The Bible is filled with commandments of what we should do as believers afterwards.

When I read these verses today, it reminded me of this post.

Acts 28

26. Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27. For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

The ancient Jews were believers of their time, but they were not converted. Just as many today close their eyes lest they should see what they do not want to see. Paul offered the Gospel to the believers of that time and they said to him similar things that are told to the LDS today.

Interesting.
