• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the value of YOU in this super cluster?

I'm part of that super cluster.

In that super cluster, human individuals exist -- to ponder, to love, to laugh, to imagine, to create. That super cluster is our home, the cradle of humanity. In contemplating the super cluster, I contemplate the origins of life, and I engage in one of the noblest of human activities, that of philosophical and scientific reflection.

Perhaps you feel tiny and insignificant compared to the super cluster, but I feel tall and amazed at the human accomplishment of identifying this super cluster. We live in amazing times, and we are an amazing species. Life as a human individual is wonderful!

Just like what Job's wife said: Curse God and die.

Only in her revenge fantasies.

What you said has nothing to do with the super cluster. Just look at the Milky Way, or even only at the solar system, you could have the same thoughts.

Does the model of the super cluster add/subtract anything to your personal value system? I guess it does not. If not, does this piece of idea mean anything to you?

I can create that in photoshop in 5 minutes.

I don't believe for one moment that you are a real person. I can get together with some computer programmer friends and program the responses we see from you in 5 minutes.

What you said has nothing to do with the super cluster. Just look at the Milky Way, or even only at the solar system, you could have the same thoughts.

Similar thoughts, yes, and I could include the entire natural universe, and even my home of stone and wood. There is no contradiction here.

The fact that the super cluster is my home says a great deal about that super cluster. It directs my thoughts. I am far more likely to think of Laniakea than to focus on the Perseus-Pisces super cluster. Ever since seeing that video, I will occasionally ponder the Laniakea super cluster and the scientists that had identified it. It has become a value to me. It has expanded my view of existence and of humanity's place within it.

Does the model of the super cluster add/subtract anything to your personal value system? I guess it does not.

It has added to my understanding of where I live, which is part of my personal value system, just as much as the family home in which I grew up and have such fond memories. Does my physical home have to be a sentient being simply to mean something to me? No, it does not. I don't need household gods in order to have a home.

All of those galaxies, and innumerable stars, some collapsing, others forming. Countless planets, and moons, and rocks and gas clouds, on an almost unimaginable scale.

All of that, just for us? God truly does move in mysterious ways
