I used to knit scarves, and plan on knitting some other things soon. I just gotta find the time. :o I will. I have some patterns that I want to try out soon. I do my best work during the winter. I guess summer is for sewing and winter is for knitting. It would be fun to try a hat, either knit or crochet.

I'm in the middle of knitting a blanket. (for warmth, not necessarily style) I am knitting 13cm. squares of different colors and will eventually sew them together. I have no pattern, but I just thought it might work so I decided to try it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm a new knitter and absolutely love it. I find it not only a very calming hobby, but it's also good for stopping my fingers from seizing up.
I'm currently knitting a cream sleeveless top with funky wool edging, and a phone cover for my Mum. Next to do will be a patterned cardigan for my nephew.

I'm also looking for reputable charities to make knitted toys and baby's clthes for. I'lld like to make clothes for older children and adults but I'm not quite up to that speed of knitting that :)

Have fun knitting all :D

How in the world do you knit a blanket? Do you have to cast on hundreds of stitches? I'm pretty good at scarves, but I wouldn't know how to even start making a blanket.

Yes. That is exactly what you do. ;) 208 stitches to be exact (for the pattern I am using).

My goodness..... It must take forever to get through one row!!!! Do you have to buy extra-long needles, or just try to fit them all on? *Whew* I can't even imagine how long that must take!!! Talk about having patience!

I'm currently making a knitting bag so I can carry my needles and project around with me. I think it's going to be very pretty when it's done.

HI Guys. It's nice to hear from so many knitters! I had almost given up on the thread. Currently I'm finishing the Starsky sweater from knitty.com. Look under patterns and scroll all the way down. Coolest cardigan ever, IMO! I also recently finished knitty's Leo sweater for DH (it's in knitty's archives), but it's getting too warm around here for a sweater made out of alpaca and silk.

Btw, I've started a knitting service small group at my church. If you're in the Lexington, KY area pm me and I'll give you specifics. If you want to help a worthy charity, send me your scarves, hats, and mittens (any size) and I will give them to the Kentucky Refugee Ministries. They help international refugees and their families settle into new lives here in the States. That's my small group's chosen service charity. Just pm if interested.

If you can make scarves, you can make a blanket. I'm knitting a blanket for my daughter right now, and it basically consists of 6 "scarves" that I plan on stitching together side by side. Each scarf section is divided into square patches of different colors and patterns. I can't wait to see it all assembled.

I have to admit, I have been working on it for a long time though . . . ;)
