Just workinfg on a pair of alpaca socks and a lace scarf, J

Just a pair of alpaca socks. Every alpaca I've ever seen would need four. :)

I'm getting ready to knit some warm socks for my three boys for when they go winter camping. I've never knit socks before, but the patterns I've seen are pretty straightforward.

i am trying to learn to knit in the round.
how do you connect it without a gap when you start on three dpns?
i have some supposedly easy hat patterns that i want to try.

Probably the best trick I've ever used I found in The Knitting Answers Book. I think this may be an old Elizabeth Zimmerman trick. I'm going to try and explain it.

You've cast on all of your stitches onto one DPN and now you are distributing the stitches evenly across three needles. Alright, make sure the row isn't twisted. Holding the DPN with the working yarn tail in your left hand and the DPN with first stitch you cast-on in your right, bring the two needle tips together and slip the end stitch off the right needle onto the left needle by inserting the right needle tip through the first stitch purlwise and lifting it onto the left needle. Then, take the left needle, insert it purlwise (from left to right, so it's sort of like purling backwards) into the stitch just before the one you just slipped and lift that stitch over the slipped stitch and onto the right hand needle tip.

Now you've criss-crossed the first and last cast-on stitches and the "round" is closed. Push the stitches on the DPN in your right hand toward the middle of the DPN (so they won't slip off while you're knitting) and begin knitting. Not only does this technique keep the join from gapping, it makes the join almost completely invisible as well, so be sure to mark the beginning of your round.

Is there a ravelry group for CF members?

I'm not aware of one but perhaps one could be started. I just joined one here and have found some really nice patterns. I have not posted any of my own stuff yet but maybe with time I will.

I forgot I had joined Ravelry. I really must spend some time there getting used to the site.:)
I don't buy knitting magazines or books anymore (unless extremely low priced). I can go to Ravelry and print up whatever I like. There are so many patterns there. I love it.

I put up a post this morning but it appears to have disappeared

Anyway here are some pics I've taken of some of my stuff.

The little blue one w/flower and the multi color one are little girls hats. The gold lacy one is a ladys kippa and the other is a mans kippa and it has a star of David on the side. The other item is a glasses case but I use it for my camera.

I am working on a string bag...it mushes down to nothing but expands to a size big enough to carry a fair amount of groceries. I'd include a picture, but my dog ate my camera.

(I have a puppy that loves to chew. I left my camera in a place where he could get it and he ate the case, the camera, and the SD to USB adapter.)

*sigh*
I hope Max isn't like this forever.

That sounds like a cool bag. I hope you can get another camera soon.
