4th day of preteen out of school & preteen is grumpy!

I'm intoverted so being at home is easy
child Needs interaction & loves school

sending outside for 20 min of "recess" time even though in 30s and she is walking dog
being away from other kids is frustrating for her
(time with me/husband doesn't take away from peer need)

library & all entertainment places are closed

any suggestions?

If she loves school what are her favorite subjects? IF she brought her text books home she could read ahead or otherwise learn a bit on her own.

For some kids it can be a huge plus to actually talk to an adult about class type stuff and be treated like an equal, or at least a near equal. E.g. not being talked down to.

If she is a math geek (I can say that since I'm one) she can try some of the harder problems (if text books still have them).

She might like teaching the dog new tricks.

Cooking can be good, not the simply slap out a meal stuff but something a bit special. Assuming of course you are well stocked.

Multiplayer online games played with her friends might be worth a try.

Bake a cake with her and let her decorate it with you.
Try different hairstyles and let her do yours.

Play games, board games, Pictionary, etc.
Big Fish website has inexpensive games. My grandkids like the games where you search for items and do puzzles. We play them together.

She'll love having you all to herself and she will remember the special time you spent with her forever.

Doesn't she have social media, face time? texting? If not get her onto that.
Star Stables is an online game with chatting, that one was always pretty safe.

I did not see the post about the Y before I posted before. It brought some other ideas to mind. I was camp leader for a few years with the Y.

While she can't go camping or do much of the outdoor stuff now she can plan for it. Looking up hikes or bike routes online might be something to occupy her time. BUT if she does that plan to follow through on some of them.

Also camp cooking can be a bit of an adventure. A strange area where it is uncertain if it is boy stuff or girl stuff. I backpacked for years and often with pre teens it ends up with parents setting up tent, the stove and other stuff. Teaching her how to set up a tent and camp stove has the same advantages as talking as an equal about class stuff.

Don't forget that often kids want to be like grown ups (and once we grow up we often want to be kids!). The camp example could be generalized, teaching somewhat more grown up things might help both of you.

Oh and there are books available online. A lot of my favorite books are old enough to be public domain.

From a fellow introvert, advise indestructible, know-all preteen that death lurks at the school. She won't believe you, of course. "Whatever" does not protect from Corona virus. Tell her that it will pass and life will get back to normal. That may not be true but it is likely. Treat it like a long road trip. "No we are not there yet". She needs to find something hands on to do. That will help the time pass. She may even enjoy it!

husband suggested getting on FB as school is now having FB groups few times a week

this will be tough because never, ever wanted to get on FB
Conspiracy theory 1,996. Corona virus was created by facebook to force people to sign up. Not this little black duck.

Can you contact other parents and see if you can set up a Google Meets time that the kids can chat a little while? We are going to start using that with our students to do some live teaching.

we no longer have landline
my phone is limited minutes so can't be used just to chat
child is NOT getting phone, lol

Ouch no, not FB, that is not a great environment for a child.
Like I said Star Stables was always nice. It's a horse game and the kids can chat as well. My daughter loved it. They have moderators on there. It's web site.

My siblings have been playing board games with their friends via FaceTime and messenger video. It’s not the same as face to face and they are definitely having a hard time (especially my sister because she has had big events cancelled for her), but it helps a little.
