  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Secular Jesus yes, biblical Jesus no. Read my signature to see the difference between the two.

There's a "secular Jesus" now? The biblical one was a bit much, but at least as long as you ignore the Bible you could ignore that one.

What comes next, everyone has their own, personal Jesus? Someone who cares?

Jesus never condoned sin.

"In summary, he has no issue with people who are homosexual or transgender"

Did Jesus 'have an issue' with people who steal or murder or sell themselves for money? No doubt he did. But nevertheless he moved among them. He could apparently do so without 'condoning' theft, etc.

", he consumes alcohol"

is not condoning sin.

" and associates with non-believers."

is not condoning sin.

I try not to. I grew up with American-tinged Roman Christianity and tried to to interact with the raw American versions.

Thanks for that reply. I wasn't quite sure what you meant.

WIthout the supernatural/spiritual aspects, I don't find the remnant "secular Jesus" particularly interesting or compelling. (And I don't find the supernatural aspects credible.)

Well the point is, people like to say Jesus would have approved of this or that, or done this or that, when everything written in the Bible about Jesus makes it clear that he wouldn't.

Getting back to the topic: it's not whether Kevin Sorbo is Jesus, but whether his views and actions can be encompassed within Christianity. Many polls indicate there's nothing particularly unusual about the way he conducts his life within the bounds of Christendom.

you made the comparison "sounds like Jesus" in regard to what the OP said about Sorbo. My reply was one of those times when I was posting on the fly, rather than thoughtfully. Often when a non-christian says something like that it's incorrect going by biblical standards, so my reply was a knee-jerk. Sorbo saying he isn't bothered by it, isn't the same as promoting it. As for hanging out with non-christians and drinking, Christ only did that to reach out to and save the lost. In Sorbo's case maybe it's just plain old socializing without any such goal in mind. Which is okay. But the less Christians purely socialize with non-christians the better.

Kevin Sorbo is actually a typical Evangelical Christian, most of whom don't get up every morning brimming with disgust against gay people. His critics on the Internets are the outliers, that would be my guess.

South Carolina Rep Nancy Mace Describes How She Was Able to Make it On Time to Tim Scott's Prayer Breakfast.

Nancy Mace, House Representative from South Carolina, gave a risqué explanation as to why she was on time to Senator Tim Scott's prayer breakfast

When I woke up this morning at 7 ... Patrick, my fiancé, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed
And I was like, ‘No, baby, we don’t got time for that this morning’
I gotta get to the prayer breakfast
He can wait. I’ll see him later tonight

I certainly don't condone the use of 'got' in that fashion. Baby, we don't have time for that this morning.
I find the allusion to premarital sex at a prayer breakfast kind of zesty, but I certainly have no problem with it.

Jesus never condoned sin.

There were certainly those who accused Him of just that because He associated with those deemed unworthy of being around.

"The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they said, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard a friend of tax collectors and sinners'" - Matthew 11:19

As the wise teacher remarked,

"What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." - Ecclesiastes 1:9

Expecting anything resembling a consistency in morals from the moral majority is asking a bit much. Because it's only wrong when the other guy does it. That other person has a speck in their eye you see, and it really needs to be pointed out.

I would like to know your thoughts on people who condone sin. I ask this question as it relates to Kevin Sorbo and his attitude towards homosexuality, reflecting a non-Christian attitude. I have come across various statements that he has made in his memoir True Strength: My Journey from Hercules to Mere Mortal and How Nearly Dying Saved My Life

He recounts early in his modeling career working around a homosexual. This what he had to say, "Very early in my modeling career I worked with a guy named Chris, a photographer in Dallas who openly gay. I’m straight. No big deal. I view sexuality as a private matter and I respect people’s privacy.

Sorbo thinks it is no big deal to be a homosexual? Then there is a statement from the Daily Beast where it makes it clear that he has no objection to homosexuality. "I don’t care what someone’s sexual preference is. That doesn’t bother me in the least.

I am very disappointed with Kevin Sorbo after watching several interviews where he expresses his apathy toward the sin of homosexuality because of his apparent contradiction in his stance. While he criticizes the cultural wave of 'wokeism' imposed on society, he also claims to have no issue with the LGBT community, stating that he has worked with gay individuals throughout his career without being bothered by their lifestyle. He has developed a level of desensitization due to his extensive exposure to a working environment where a substantial portion of his colleagues identify as homosexual. Witnessing what seems like apathy towards what I believe to be sin is disheartening. As Christians, we are called to be the salt of the earth and not to condone sinful behavior. Unfortunately, it appears that Sorbo is accepting homosexuality as moral, which goes against the teachings I hold dear. When someone like Kevin, I don't care if someone is gay or transgender, he is essentially saying to condone their lifestyles. No honest Christian would ever say I am not bothered by homosexuality or other sin.

I can't help but reflect on the story of Mary Magdalene, whom Jesus forgave but also instructed to 'go and sin no more.' We need to follow Jesus' example by addressing sin while showing love and compassion. In today's world, the challenges we face are partially due to individuals who claim to be Christian but are lukewarm in their attitude toward sin. Sorbo may want to convey his tolerance towards various lifestyles to be friendly and loving. However, if he is exhausted from the so-called 'woke' nonsense, I encourage him to acknowledge the biological reality that there are only two genders and that biological males cannot become females, and vice versa.

Then there is the issue of Sorbo and alcohol. As someone who identifies as a Christian, Sorbo's decision to promote and sell alcohol is disheartening, as it contradicts our faith's principles and teachings.

The Bible offers guidance on the topic of alcohol consumption, and several verses express caution and warn against its potential dangers. For example, Proverbs 20:1 states, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." This verse highlights the deceptive nature of alcohol and its potential to lead people astray.

Furthermore, Ephesians 5:18 advises believers, "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." This verse encourages us to seek spiritual fulfillment rather than excessive alcohol consumption.

It is disheartening to see someone like Kevin Sorbo, who has been regarded as a Christian role model, engage in a business that profits from an industry often associated with excess and negative consequences. The sole purpose of drinking alcoholic beverages is to impair one's sobriety, which can lead to poor decision-making and harmful actions.

Moreover, the Bible warns us about the love of money, stating in 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is the root of all evil." It is essential for individuals who claim to be followers of Christ to prioritize their spiritual values above financial gain.

The world could have more sober-minded people in the world instead of silly and obnoxious drunks.

If Sorbo is genuinely concerned about the trajectory of our nation, there are better ways for him to make a positive impact. Rather than profiting from alcohol, he could create content encouraging people to embrace qualities like godly masculinity, patriotism, and Christian virtues. These topics resonate with many and contribute to a more uplifting and virtuous society.

We must remember that the consumption of alcohol has been linked to numerous adverse outcomes, including accidents resulting in harm or loss of life. Such behavior can have devastating consequences, affecting individuals and innocent bystanders.

Kevin Sorbo's decision to sell a wine called "Christopher Street" on his website indicates his support for LGBT causes. The name "Christopher Street" is significant because it references the street in New York City where the Stonewall riots took place in 1969, considered a significant event in the history of the LGBT rights movement. By choosing to market and sell a bottle of wine with this name, Sorbo associates himself and his brand with the LGBT community and the historical struggle for LGBT rights. It suggests a willingness to support and acknowledge the LGBT community and its history.

Kevin Sorbo has built so much respect from Christians within the United States that he can do or say things that are not aligned with the Bible. For instance, he can celebrate "Pride Month" by waving the rainbow flag at an LGBT parade and still be considered a devout Christian who asked to speak on podcasts like the Babylon Bee. He is immune from any criticism.

Also, he often brags that he has atheists friends and I am reminded of 2 Corinthians 6:14
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.

In summary, he has no issue with people who are homosexual or transgender, he consumes alcohol and associates with non-believers. How does make for a solid Christian?

Thank you for allowing me to share my perspective, and I would appreciate your feedback.

Sincerely,

Kevin Sorbo had a long term affair with a friend of mine (and practicing witch) who met him working at a ComiCon back when Hercules was still a thing. He’d send her money to see him by pretending to buy wreaths for veterans to display in cemeteries from her memorial flower design business. I highly doubt she was his only side piece. He also hired her to curse his wife with mental illness so he could leave the marriage (or she would be inspired to leave).

Anybody who looks at him as a model of Christianity should think it over because had the internet been more mainstream when his show was on the air, he’d have been Armie Hammer-ed by at least one woman who had *all* the receipts related to their dalliances and proclivities.

1 Corinthians 5 9-13
9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”

Verse 10 states that we can not avoid sinful people, because to do so would mean we would need to go out of this world. But we are to not associate with and in fact remove from the church those in the church that are sinners.

Verse 12 It is not our business to judge those outside the church. We are to judge those inside the church.

Verse 13 God is to judge those outside the church, we are to remove the sinners from the church.

I also have had friends and family that are sinners and still do, in fact I am sinner, but I do not continue in my old sin. Jesus associated with sinners calling them to follow him. Letting them know that repentance was available to them. I say be like Jesus.
