I am not gaslighting you. I am not even coming close to gaslighting you.

I attended the Trump rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, and let me tell you, what I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears was nothing like what you’ve read in the mainstream media. Not even close.

Contrary to reports painting the event as a gathering of racism, rage, and misogyny, I observed a crowd brimming with joy and camaraderie. Ears ringing from all the chants of "USA! USA! USA!," I left the venue reflecting on Trump’s latest slogan: "Make America Dream Again." And, I have to admit, for the first time in a long time, it felt like better days might still be possible. Others there that night, however, walked away with much darker and foreboding interpretations of the very same event.

It’s as if there were two rallies for Trump on Sunday night: one for those who love him and one for those who hate him. Thanks to modern psychology, we now know that’s exactly what happened.

Latino community going 'head over heels' for Trump, Goya CEO claims: We're 'fed up with being exploited'
Trump leads Harris by 11 points among Latinos in a recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll

Latino voters – a longstanding Democratic voting bloc – appear more likely to cast their ballot for former President Trump than Vice President Harris this election cycle, a recent poll shows.
A new USA Today/Suffolk University poll taken among Latinos between October 14-18 saw Trump boasting an 11-point lead at 49% compared to Harris' 38% with a +/-9% margin of error.
Despite Latino voters trending toward Democratic candidates in the past, Goya Foods CEO Bob Unanue isn't surprised. "We are the No. 1 exploited community in the world," he told Fox News on Tuesday.

"The biggest industry that has flourished under this administration, under Kamala, has been drugs and human trafficking. Last year, Tara Lee Rodas testified that the U.S. is the middleman in this hundreds of billion-dollar business. She said there were 85,000 children missing…"

"From 85,000, this year, they raised the amount of children lost or sold to 325,000 children. The Hispanic community, the Latino community is fed up with being exploited. They're fed up with high prices, and that's why you're seeing this community go head over heels toward Donald J. Trump."

Unanue, who leads America's largest Hispanic-owned food company that produces and distributes items in the U.S. as well as Spanish-speaking countries, has been critical of the Biden-Harris administration on multiple occasions — slamming their job performance on the economy and immigration, two prevailing issues this election cycle.
Hi. Latino voter here. I don’t need some wealthy CEO and long time Trump backer to try and Hispanosplain to me what to think about the hate rally I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears. This cultural sellout’s opinion is worth less than a can of Goya beans to me.

If it was only one joke or a set by one comic you might have a point but othering immigrants has been a central theme of Trump and the entire maga movement from the very beginning. It’s the issue he started his presidency with and it seems to be the single issue he wants to have define his presidency.
Were they "othering" all immigrants, or just undocumented/illegal immigrants? (I've seen "day-after" clips, but I didn't watch the rally, so that's an honest question)

If it was just the latter...then how is it different than how society "others" any other group that's violating (or has violated) specific laws?

We "other" certain people by not letting them do certain things once they have a specific type crime on their record.

What is your opinion regarding the polling showing that Trump has more Hispanic and Latino support than does Harris? What is your opinion regarding the facts that 325,000 Hispanic children have been lost or sold because of human trafficking within the last 3 1/2 years?

She didn't commit any crime. Tasteless jokes are not against the law.

Stephen Miller’s comment about America being for Americans wasn’t a joke.

I thought the watermelon joke could’ve been funny on Kill Tony, but probably not a good idea in a room of people who’ve lamented the unfairness of their not being allowed to use the N word in public when black people can.

Why do you have a problem with America being for Americans?
Because the people who say that often have very un-American hurdles on who counts as American. Stephen Miller being a shining example of that, given his proclivities in promoting the Great Replacement nonsense.

Did you think the 1939 Nazi rally in NYC was all a bunch of foreigners?
The American Nazi Party was mostly German American, immigrant and 1st generation.
The main speaker was a German national.
The US realized when the predominate immigrant wave was German, that "diversivity" was a very bad move.
33% of American had German ancestory during WWII
Most of the English Only especially in schools was to create a unified citizenry united by common language and culture.
English Only meant no German spoken here.
Newspapers written in German and German schools were shut down in the the 1920's and 30's
It is not diversity which is our strength. It is our common shared identity.
It is so much our strength that the German and Italian armies in WWII were defeated by a thoroughly American army comprised of Germans and Italians who communicated easily in English and shared the same national identity.
The Germans were not allowed to form tribal areas or tribal identity within the US. They were assimilated, forcibly in some cases.

Yeah, I do. One of America’s defining characteristics is our being a “melting pot” of cultures; one of the foundational myths we tell ourselves is of this land being a place of opportunity for anybody who’d come here and put in the effort to realize it. Defining “America” as being “for Americans only” is, ironically, one of the most unAmerican things one could do. It misses the entire point.

I also think it’s a lousy way to treat immigrants.

They do this:

MSNBC broadcast images of a Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden in its coverage of Donald Trump’s campaign rally at the same venue.
The footage showed the crowd making Nazi salutes while a parade of flag-waving officials goose-stepped through the historic New York City venue.
“In 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of a different fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, packed the Garden for a so-called pro-America rally,” host Jonathan Capehart narrated.

There actually people defending them doing it -

Mr Musk also reposted images of an Israeli flag being hung from an upper balcony, as well as black, Asian and Jewish speakers at the event.

MSNBC faces backlash for using Nazi rally clips during Madison Square Garden coverage

The backlash to MSNBC’s coverage on Sunday evening was immediate as Republicans pointed out a diverse range of attendees, including a Holocaust survivor.
“Hey @MSNBC this was what you streamed on National TV, and this is Jerry Wartski, a Holocaust survivor attending today’s rally. True colors. You owe this man an apology. Not to mention the rest of the Jews at the Madison Rally. Whose Anti-Semetic?” one user questioned.

In their rush to slander. They don’t realize the building the Rally was held in didn’t exist in 1939

It was built 30 years later.

The melting pot which you and I love was formed by legal immigrants who legally became Americans.

Oh yes. I recall what was said about her.
As do I, my brother. Those things were wrong to say then, and now to this day also in my opinion. I don't personally subscribe to cancel culture at all.

That’s such a specious answer. For one thing, a good chunk of them came here and plundered the natives. “Legal”? Sure, I suppose if you consider conquest to be legal. Second, there weren’t much in the way of immigration laws for the first century-and-a-half of the country’s existence. What created the melting pot was open borders.

That appears to be an interesting way of interpreting history through the norms of modern day society.

What's a "legal immigrant"? For most of my ancestors all there is to record their entry is an entry on a passenger manifest at their port of arrival. An entry that was recorded for everyone who entered, whether they were staying or not. (including the crew)
