Heya Fin,

1. I am an evil genious ;)
And so young! :p You should play the game Evil Genius btw, it's extremely well put together and very funny.

2. The fact that it is different doesn't make it right. For instance bhuddism has no god but it's a religon. No one goes running around proclaiming bhudda as a saviour. Buhdda was a teacher of compassion nothing more nothing less.
No it doesn't. But I often hear the, "What about Hinduism, Bhuddism, Wicca and all the other religions, why not them?" and this is why, because Christianity is so different, and has the person of Jesus Christ in it, who either made ridiculous claims and was an idiot and died for no reason, or spoke the truth.

3. Christianity like a lot of other religons developed in the middle east state "if you don't believe, then sucks to be you"
I think it's important to separate the Christians from the Christ. We tend to do a really bad job of exhalting His integrity. If you are looking to us for what Christianity is, then no wonder you dislike it so. I think I would too, and in fact, I did for many years because of this.

4. The evidence against the opium theory is flimsy. As it is from the bible as apposed to the actual medical records kept by the romans that say otherwise. The bible however holy is a christian biased source written at a time when political propaganda was at it's peak.
I don't know enough about this to talk with any authority, however medical records by the people that murdered Christ, are probably not going to be up my list of sources that I find very credible, if you follow me. ;)

5. "Go forth slaughter all the men and take the women for yourselves" that endorses it in my opinion.
Can you give a Bible version and passage for that? I am not familiar with it. I recall one that is similar, where the Israelites were told to slaugter everyone, but keep the virgins for themselves. This was because the virgins were innocent, and the others had lead the Israelites to idolatry through adultery and lust. In context it makes sense, as they had tried to warp God's people.

thanks digit. looking forward to your reply. :)
Ping! Your turn! :D

Cheers,

Hello

1. I say again just becuase the religon is different it doesn't necceserily make it 100% truth their may be truth in it. But like I said it is hard to define what is real and truthfull in these matters.

2. One of the many reasons I prefer buhddism. we have a better rep :) people don't want to listen to christians and a lot of the time I agree with them. Having hell in a religon will do nothing positive it's an outdated fear mongering tactic.

3. The medical records were never intended to be released, but the bible was. One has more cuase to be edited than the other. (note: I don't neccesarily believe in this theory I just find it interesting to bat around so I don't have much authority in this either :) )

4. I'll see what I can do unfortunatly I don't own a copy of the old testament. I prefer to keep it's teachings at arms length.

5. We really should get our own sub-forum, call it. Theological Table Tennis.

Pong back to you :p

I think we agreed on this, I was trying to illustrate why I feel Christianity is more authorative than other religions, and this is why. I wasn't trying to say it is the only true religion because of this one thing. That isn't really that logical, as again, I think we both agree. :)

2. One of the many reasons I prefer buhddism. we have a better rep people don't want to listen to christians and a lot of the time I agree with them. Having hell in a religon will do nothing positive it's an outdated fear mongering tactic.
Well, I'm not in this to be popular. ;) But it does hurt when I see people label themselves as Christians and act in ways that really make you wonder if they have the same Bible as you do. The subject of Hell interests me, Heaven too. It seems we have for the most part, bought Hollywood stories of Heaven and Hell. I haven't read this entire article, as it's really long and I'm feeling slightly sick at the moment, so forgive me if it starts off good and degenerates but I think it covers things in quite a lot of detail and shows where we often go wrong. I find the subject quite fascinating though, and really want to do a study on Heaven and Hell from a Biblical standpoint.

3. The medical records were never intended to be released, but the bible was. One has more cuase to be edited than the other. (note: I don't neccesarily believe in this theory I just find it interesting to bat around so I don't have much authority in this either :) )
Ok then. :)

4. I'll see what I can do unfortunatly I don't own a copy of the old testament. I prefer to keep it's teachings at arms length.
The phrase you mentioned is eerily similar to the one about the Middanites, as I pointed out, in which case it isn't condoning the actions you think it is.

5. We really should get our own sub-forum, call it. Theological Table Tennis.
As long as each time we post, it makes a "beep" or "boop" noise like Pong did. \o/

Pong back to you :p

I am very confused. I fear hell in some aspects but don't believe in dogma. I follow the teachings of the bible but don't believe in black and white morality. For instance I believe murder is separate from killing and that sex before marriage is ok when approached ethically.

I have had so many different beliefs. I'm confused and I just want to stop searching. I love god and jesus but I currently hate what he is doing to me. He has created so many different religons and "holy texts" it's just not clear. I gave a prayer; I was in a field almost shouting my words to god, nearly in tears. It's been about an hour and nothing new has entered.

He has given me a strong theological mind but more and more it is becoming a curse rather than a blessing. I want to go back to being a happy agnostic/bhuddist. But that would deny myself my ability to think.

I just don't know what god wants from me, I was raised at an early age in somewhat of a christian school and more and more people portray god as a vengeful god, (which I was not taught) who created hell knowing the masses would go there.

Maybe tonight I will get an answer from god. I don't even know why I'm typing this! Am I looking for sympathy knowledge or just an easy way out?

Normally this post would be filled with swears and curses but I can see this is not the place. So you'll forgive me if the nature or content of this post seems un natural.

It's ridiculous! why are there so many different religous paths if all of them are claiming to be the one and only way to win and telling me every other way is wrong. From what I've seen the christian based religons are the worst for this.
Hi, This sounds like the confession of a person whom God is calling and who also honestly wishes to know this God, but only upon his own terms and not terms set by God. And could it also be, just could it...That the Lord is also giving you time to try and try and try, over and over again your own way of doing things to the end that after having worn yourself out with repeated frustration and defeat you will eventually submit to a "As thou wilt" philosophy rather than a Sinatra "I did it my way!" one? I have tried this approach as well and had to go the whole tiring mileage of frustration and defeat before I would in desperation submit to His authority and resign my own will to that of a higher. The sad thing about this is that when I did come around to doing things according to His agenda and not my own, I liked the outcome far more that way and only then saw the sheer robbery of all of those frustrating years that could have been more rewarding for me. To facilitate this submission, you might want to meditate upon this single thought for awhile: Is God finite or infinite? If you choose to believe that the Creator is infinite, (and He is,) the pointlessness then of opposing such an immeasurable Being will then appear to be the hopeless, pointless nonsense that it is. Bite the bullet and try doing things His way...Things will work alot better and you'll be much happier too.

Hey fin,
I really understand your frustration. A great many Christians today think their way is the ONLY way. If you dont believe them then you go to hell, blah blah blah. This is not all Christians or even the majority, but unfortunately they are usually the most vocal. They think that there is some sort of dignity in thinking the same thing and acting the same way that their parents do, but they fail to realize just how much Christianity has changed throught the ages. And mostly for the better.

Anyways I think you should stop looking for religion and start looking for spirituality. Just meditate however you like. Its very important to have a regular practice of meditation.

I think you would benefit from a reading some Jiddua Krishnamurti. He is truly one of the greatest thinkers ever to walk the planet, and I think his words will help you more than the Bible could.

Hey thanks guys but after a long journey of flicking from buddhism to atheism to wicca to laveyism to agnostic back to agnostic buddha. I'm happy so thats they way things roll I guess.

I just looked at the world and realised. You know what if their is a god; taking into account his grandure, he probably whether care to much whether I fornicate or don't believe in him.

So I in effect "did it my way" haha! But thanks for the support. And maybe someday Jesus wll slip in without noticing. Or something along those lines.

thanks and happy new year.

No, when you come to the point of really wanting to know what the living God can do, you can call upon him for what he says you need - His Spirit within (Acts 2:4, 39), then you will have Life, love, truth . . . that you need for fulfilment.

haha! Fantastic, christians dictating the way spirituality works!

I was saying that maybe someday I'll take a deeper look at christianity. At the moment I keep a well read copy of the new testament, but thats it.

Also are you implying that I am unfulfilled? That's a pretty bold statement for someone who has never met me.

Either way have a nice day.

Hey Fin, I generally stay out of the sub-forums, I don't really feel that they bring anything positive to people. I occasionally venture into GA, though God knows why and sometimes Philosophy and Ethics. On a more casual front, I tend to visit Computer Games and Movies a bit, as I have an interest in both and work in the games industry as a designer. :)

Cheers!
