Hello,
I was just watching a debat between jay smith and shabir ally and when jay was asked who died on the cross, either god of jesus (because christians believe jesus is god right), he said god died.
do christians really believe god died and came back to life?
This is just a small portion of the debate (ignore the title):

Hi alhamdullilah, I think there may be a misunderstanding here.
Jesus was God personified, in that He was both a man, and God in physical form. He is a different aspect of God, still the same entity and being, but a different part of Him that is so unique as to be able to be expressed in an individual manner, in much the same way as the Holy Spirit. None of these aspects of God can die or perish. Only Jesus the
man can die, and He was raised up again
by God.
Attempting to draw a link like saying that Jesus
was God and so God Himself died, is incorrect and I do not believe it to be a popular belief among Christians, if it is on at all.
I would also question your assertion that believing something we do not fully understand is in any way wrong or negative. There is much I believe in and believe to be true, that I do not understand:
From the mundane like:
Automotive repair.
Electrical engineering.
Musical composition.
To the elaborate:
Chemistry.
Psychology.
Quantum mechanics.
Biological evolution.
Astrophysics.
I mean really, no one man can know everything there is about our universe and world, what we do instead is find people who specialize in those areas and who we find trustful, and we accept their beliefs and findings, due to that trust.
In the Biblical sense, this is called faith. Faith is not believing things you don't understand, or cannot prove, faith is
trust. We have faith in God means, we trust God.
