Indeed God became flesh and lived among us and taught us. Jesus is God, God was on the earth and in Heaven at the same time. This is hard for us to understand, but clearly God can do things we cannot begin to understand. The prophet Isaiah tells us this:

Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand (Isaiah 53:10)

It was God's will and pleasure to sacrifice himself (Jesus) for our sins. Can there be any higher demonstration of love? If you are interested I would encourage you to read Isaiah 52:13-53. Written around 700 years before the birth of Jesus, it fortells in excruciating details the death of Jesus and what was accomplished.

I dont see "And god will suffer and die" or something like it.
It still doesn't make any sense, how could god die?

How could you even say this as a believing person? Me as a muslim cant even utter the words, cant even think about it.

Dont you find it illogical for an eternal and all powerfull god to just die?

You have to understand the trinity. I'm an not a theologian so cannot explain it further. However yes I believe God suffered death on the cross. This sacrifice is accepted by God as an atonement for my sins. According to Christianity this is the will of God, this is how man is reconciled to God.

If you can't even explain it (being a christian and all) then how can you believe in it? How is it possible that you believe in something you dont even understand?

How can you say this about an all powerfull and allmighty God, that He suffered and died?
Where does god or jesus ever say this that god has to die, or that god died. Doesnt the OT or NT say that God is eternal and is not human etc etc?

Show me where God says that it is his will.

Hi alhamdullilah, I think there may be a misunderstanding here.

Jesus was God personified, in that He was both a man, and God in physical form. He is a different aspect of God, still the same entity and being, but a different part of Him that is so unique as to be able to be expressed in an individual manner, in much the same way as the Holy Spirit. None of these aspects of God can die or perish. Only Jesus the man can die, and He was raised up again by God.

Attempting to draw a link like saying that Jesus was God and so God Himself died, is incorrect and I do not believe it to be a popular belief among Christians, if it is on at all.

I would also question your assertion that believing something we do not fully understand is in any way wrong or negative. There is much I believe in and believe to be true, that I do not understand:

From the mundane like:
Automotive repair.
Electrical engineering.
Musical composition.

To the elaborate:
Chemistry.
Psychology.
Quantum mechanics.
Biological evolution.
Astrophysics.

I mean really, no one man can know everything there is about our universe and world, what we do instead is find people who specialize in those areas and who we find trustful, and we accept their beliefs and findings, due to that trust.

In the Biblical sense, this is called faith. Faith is not believing things you don't understand, or cannot prove, faith is trust. We have faith in God means, we trust God.

God is too big to be fully understood and explained by man. Yet, man is to believe in him.

God is not confined to a throne in Heaven. He is there on the throne in Heaven, but he's also everywhere else. Since all things are possible with God, then surely he can take on a mortal body. He created everything, surely he can make a body for himself to walk the earth on.

I'm really surprised that whoever Shabir Ally is, he does not have a Semetic understanding of "death" - death is separation - separation from society, from community, and from God. I don't understand how God could be separated from Himself, but it has something to do with the Incarnation. Some things are really hard to put our finite minds around. But one thing is for sure - God did not cease to exist on the cross, nor did he die like a plant or animal dies. Biblically speaking, humans, including God incarnate, do not cease to exist or cease to live in spirit. I thought this was a belief shared by Muslims?

Oh, and for the record, I have no idea who Jay Smith is......

blessings in Jesus

In the most simpliest of terms, a person would have to distinguish between which death? God has placed His testimony within the bible which reveals two deaths, that of the body and that of both body and spirit.

Is it not possible for God to come into His world through a mortal woman and then have that body die?

"whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it." (Act 2:24)

well Jesus was the right hand of the father, jesus sits at the right hand of the father .... what is or was the right hand?
you shake with it? what does it mean, what did it always mean?

what did men do with their left hand before toilet paper?
so their right hand was also ?
