Judge: No penalties for Trump in New York hush money case

New York Judge Juan Mercan decided to proceed with sentencing President-elect Donald Trump's conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records while previewing that he will execute an 'unconditional discharge' and impose no penalties against Trump. CNN's Paula Reid reports.

*giggle*
“This Court must sentence Defendant within a reasonable time following verdict; and Defendant must be permitted to avail himself of every available appeal, a path he has made clear he intends to pursue but which only becomes fully available upon sentencing,” Merchan continued.

Trump will fight it

Democrats figured if they could pin a felony charge on Trump he would surely lose the election. Your strategy failed.
That's seen in that the felony conviction was never going to result in an actual sentence. Merchan dragged out sentencing for an abnormally long period of time only to finally hand out an unconditional discharge. What a laugh.

That was supposed to be a reasonable amount of time? Merchan held out until practically the last minute.

Fight what, an unconditional discharge?

I meant disappointed with all the cases that fizzled out despite the high hopes of the haters that they'd keep Trump from getting enough votes. Or put him in jail. Just one nothingburger disappointment after another for them. As for those Trump posts, I have a feeling senate investigations are going to show them to be accurate.
Im definitely disappointed that the stolen documents and "find me the votes" cases have stalled out. Those had real merit. Fani Willis totally botched hers.

As for the "hush money" case, clearly he committed the crime of falsifying business records. But its really questionable how the felony add-ons were handled in court - even if he actually did them (evidence suggests he did). So I was also disappointed that this case went first. The felony part is just too ephemeral for most people to get their heads around, and possibly not constitutionally valid as prosecuted.

So you get the disappointment you hoped for from me, for sure!

Certainly he falsified business records. Paying off a pornstar is not 'legal services'.
How can you be certain she did't offer any advice, business women that she is?

Evidentially has not exhausted all his appeals in the matter.

The repeating pornstar case has been ridiculous from day one. Remember Michael Avenatti?

I honor the attempt, but then the records are falsified because the money for her legal services did not go to her.

Marchan has burdened his presidency with having to appeal to clear his name and dismiss this case. Lot's of reversable error that has not been established. Lots
The sentencing will be completed before he takes office and the judge already has told us there will be no sentence of incarceration or probation that would interfere with his presidency.

I wonder what this might become? Is this unconstitutional on the immunity decision of the U.S. supreme court? Burdening his presidency with having to appeal, to clear his name?
Biden could use this immunity decision to fix the problem in any number of ways. For example, imprisoning him in Guantanamo for 4 years. Would that be an acceptable fix to those worried about the impact to Donald's presidency? Or is this appeal to the immunity decision selective?

He could choose not to appeal. Or he could have chosen not to break the law. Remind me - blaming others is which step on the narcissist's prayer?

Since we're mentioning Michaels, there was also that Cohen guy. People will remember him as Trump's personal attorney who pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations related to paying off people who allegedly had affairs with Donald Trump.

Cohen? Isn't he the guy who infiltrated the Trump organization and weaseled his way to a minor position to secretly attempt to smear Donald Trump and his family?

He might not have to appeal. But certainly, the proceedings in the courtrooms should legally be revisited. Much reversable error could overturn that kangaroo court.

Any specifics, or do we just have to take it on faith that Donald (with his history of legal issues) is somehow magically innocent this time?

What more specifics than what a court decides on appeal?

No, we don't take it on faith he is guilty either....Let the process of law move forward.

No need for faith. He was deemed guilty by a jury of his peers.
