Okay, so the Trads are in their area freaking out over an online video of a black woman preaching up a storm:

http://christianforums.com/showthread.php?p=44316412#post44316412

http://christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=44286802&postcount=3

Doc, in typical form, blasted the preacher as a pawn of the spirit of Satan and essentially laid down the gauntlet and challenged anyone who thought the video was fine.

WOULD ANYONE LIKE to ACCEPT MY CHALLENGE???

There is little doubt that a "spirit" is leading in this church. BUT, I will openly challenge the spirit!!!

If there is anyone who might wish to take up this challenge please do so in the Discussion & Debate Sub-forum.

Respectfully, your brother in Christ,
Doc

I watched the video and thought Juanita Bynum was a powerful speaker.

Of course, I love aggressive black preaching, so that is a no-brainer for me. I have been enjoying this style for over 20 years now.

Furthermore, if the Trads think this woman is something else, they obviously have not heard T.D. Jakes preach. He buries her with his charisma and power hands down!

So no, I do not think she is working under the influence of Satan. In fact, I find the whole idea insulting and offensive to this Christian woman as well as to the SDA church who hosted her.

So, the discussion has been moved here. Everyone watch the footage and share your take on the sermon.

Juanita Bynum is a powerful speaker, but it is what she says that I have a problem with. especially the tongues speaking stuff.

Now if you want some really good dynamite preaching go here and listen to John Nixon. http://churchpond.com/cp05/ondemand/Jnixon.htm

well, to be honest. I found it offensive. I had many red flags pop up when watching it. To be honest, i only watched about 1.5 minutes of it and had to turn it off. I was that much offended.

I dont see the Jesus ever preaching like that. He is our example. I see her "stirring" up the crowd. Why??? I dont understand. I personally don't think that is the spirit of the Lord. But hey, what do I know, I am just a closed minded Trad! Haha.

Boy, you guys are something else. You take your own personal taste in preaching style and elevate that as the ultimate standard and benchmark of morality in public speaking, even going so far as to presume you actually know how Christ delivered His public addresses. Wow.

You have come DVD's and audio CD's of His talks I assume? Please lend them to me so I can listen to them.

And I suppose John the Baptist called the Pharisees a 'brood of vipers' in the smooth, soothing, golden tones of Lonnie Melashenko's radio announcer voice? Perhaps Paul coated his rants against Phariseeism and Galatianism in hushed, quiet tones that could melt butter? Come ON. ^_^

Each speaking style has their place. This style certainly has its place, wether you guys personally enjoy it or not.

However, personal taste in preaching styles isn't really the issue here. The issue is this supposed spirit of Satan she is allegedly being controlled by.

Actually, Night I think the SDA church NEEDS MORE preachers like Dr. Bynum.

I don't think she is at all being controlled by the spirit of Satan and people need to be careful when they make accusations like that.

I agree with you about her.

Shalom,

I wonder if anyone here actually believes that Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream speech would have had half the power, influence and impact if he had delivered it in a quiet, conversational tone instead of shouting?

Please. It would have been the verbal equivalent of an emasculated, neutered dog.

All I am saying is that when something is going on, we have all had a "feeling" on what the issue was. And we need to listen to that "feeling". That feeling is the Holy Spirit talking to you. If you are uncomfortable, then I believe the Holy Spirit is telling you something.

We need to pay attention to that small voice inside speaking to us.

Which is why we must judge a preacher by "thus saith the Lord" and not by whether or not his/her voice is monotone or loud and filled with excitement. I find great excitement in the preaching of the Gospel of God's Grace. I happen to like all styles of preaching just as long SOMETHING IS ACTUALLY BEING SAID. But Bynum's and Jake's Health and Wealth preaching has no resemblance to the New Testatment Gospel at all.
Teaching that the good is already in you. And if you follow Jesus your payday [in this world's goods] is coming is NOT SPIRIT LED.

Well Night you said:

From this statement am I correct in assuming that you wish to challenge my position? If my assumption is correct can you participate with a civil toung? If you answers are yes then we can proceed. If your answers are no then I won't wast my time.

Respectfully,
Doc

I agree with that. I had that same feeling, although the message itself wasn't inherently bad or wrong, but the way it was given and the way the crowd was reacting made me feel weird about it.

I'm sure the fact that it's just a "feeling" is enough to get ridiculed on this forum, but there are times when the only clear answer you can find it from the Holy Spirit and it may not make logical sense to everyone around you. That's why you need to listen and not rely upon your own understanding and logic. Anyway, I'm not outright condemning her. This preacher may bring people to Christ and she may be a real blessing to some. But as for me, I don't feel comfortable with her, and it has nothing to do with the tone or loudness of her voice.

Oh, I already challenged your position a long time ago.

If my assumption is correct can you participate with a civil tongue? If you answers are yes then we can proceed. If your answers are no then I won't wast my time.

If you are asking if I desire to get into a long drawn-out exchange on something we do not and probably will not ever agree on, probably not. Seems like a waste of time to me and just another platform for you to pontificate your intolerant views. Not to mention the individuals who I am sure you have monitoring this exchange to report every little thing I say.

So, I think I will pass, thanks anyway. I only moved the discussion here so others could have input and debate the issue if they wish.

some folks are not comfortable with a black woman preacher.... not surprising.....

When I saw this thread go up today, I knew this comment would follow at some point.

People's reactions to that video have nothing to do with gender or race.

It looks like a Pentecostal service. If the good people here wanted to be Pentecostal, they would be.

Demanding "WISDOM COME TO ME NOW" lacks humility. Do you think they're going to get that wisdom they demanded StormyOne?

There are a lot of things wrong with that speaker's sermon and with the crowd's reactions, but absolutely none of it has to do with gender or race.

I think it is safe to say that racism has NOT been thoroughly purged from Adventism, so let's not go there. Anyone who thinks it has needs a wake-up call pretty badly.

Besides, there is more than enough shameful discrimination against female preachers in the SDA church to indicate we have a long ways to go.
